Thedelldays Posted 2 November, 2010 Share Posted 2 November, 2010 massive respect to the fella...came in just after the owner had died and the previous (popular) manager had for some reason been given the sack.. pretty bloody good impact he has made... respect to that man

Smirking_Saint Posted 2 November, 2010 Share Posted 2 November, 2010 Yep, done well, played some good football and seems to have the ability to change things around if things are going wrong. Dr Who? Posted 2 November, 2010 Share Posted 2 November, 2010 All very tight in this league, but if we keep this sort of from going we will go up without a doubt. next to Carlisle after the cup game. They are just behind us and will be another good test of how far we have come. COYR!
JackFrost Posted 2 November, 2010 Share Posted 2 November, 2010 Very impressed also, he really has given us a cutting edge since he's come in. Just needs to get the best out of Lambert and you couldn't ask for much more
SNSUN Posted 2 November, 2010 Share Posted 2 November, 2010 Doing a good job with the players he inherited. Bringing in Chaplow was a good move too, Bignall too - he saw we were short of cover in those areas and did something about it. Good feeling around the club at the moment I should think. How he handles Oxo's rise to fame will speak volumes about his managerial credentials - by all means play him, but look after him too.

Let's not forget that on his appointment some contributors to this forum were saying he would take two additional seasons after this one to get us promoted. Yes, promoted from league one in 2013. But some people never learn. Delighted that, as I expected, Adkins has been an instant success and he'll take us up this season.

sandwichsaint Posted 2 November, 2010 Share Posted 2 November, 2010 Never in doubt for me, I've thought for a long time he would be a good fit for Saints and so far so splendid. Look at where we are now and where we were when he took over - hopefully he'll be our manager all the way back to the Prem!
Smirking_Saint Posted 2 November, 2010 Share Posted 2 November, 2010 Never a doubt he would do well, he is a modern manager, playing attractive football in the modern game. He has a great team to achieve the goals he wants. Anyways, to those listening, any news on Chappers ?
Paul Chuckle Posted 2 November, 2010 Share Posted 2 November, 2010 Reminds me of Mourinhio in a way, how he seems to have that winning mentality about him. cellone Posted 2 November, 2010 Share Posted 2 November, 2010 We've had a bit of luck recently. The acid test will be against decent teams on even terms. I'm not taking any thing away from tonight (played well, decent win, superb result).

Let's be clear that it was a minority of posters that were saying that; the majority still considered that it would a failure if he didn't take us up this season. And there's definitely some perspective needed. Yes, we were good tonight and yes, his record so far is excellent. We'll have a much better idea of where we are after a tough trip to Carlisle and then taking on the top two. I still think, as I have done all season, that we have more than enough about us to go up. Give Adkins a transfer window to add one or two of his own choices and it should be bolted on.
corsacar saint Posted 2 November, 2010 Share Posted 2 November, 2010 I said when he was appointed, that he was as good an appointment,as we could have made. hutch Posted 3 November, 2010 Share Posted 3 November, 2010 Will also be judged on signings, so lets see how he fares in january Sign Guly & Chaplow in January. Maybe Bignal or similar, although we've got Doble waiting in the wings. What more do we really need (as opposed to want)? Time to stop gelling and start playing. Our squad is already way good enough to get out of this league.
Give it to Ron Posted 3 November, 2010 Share Posted 3 November, 2010 How good will he be when the players actually start playing for him? winky smiley thing..... My only criticism is he tinkers too much an example from last night, two games ago we left 2 players up from away team corners, last night everyone was back which creates extra pressure as we had no outlet ball when we won it. Just be good to see how we address the squad, i don't think we need a lot really. Defo need a CM (though chaplow will go a long way to fix this) and i still believe we need another striker, Bignall seems a good prospect but he is going back to Reading i would imagine, Adam Le Fondre would be a great signing, but i can't see him sitting behind Lambert & Barnard. He has addressed the squad well regarding loans, its not just January but moving on, eventually he will be judged for purchases, but i think he will do well. Nadia Sllim Posted 3 November, 2010 Share Posted 3 November, 2010 I like him, was not over keen on his appointment but feel he has shown in last few weeks he knows what he is doing. Also hats off to NC on getting the man he wanted, however as we know things can changed quickly in football so lets keep our feet on the ground. Just hope Liverpool do not come sniffing after we win back to back promotions!
suspect everyone Posted 3 November, 2010 Share Posted 3 November, 2010 Thinks we can do better. Won well but wants us to play better. I like this. Under Pardew we'd win games but in such an ugly fashion, AP never seemed to address this or see it as a problem. Glad to see Adkins wants to win games with decent passing football. Shroppie Posted 3 November, 2010 Share Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted this on another thread, but seems more appropriate here: I'm impressed with NA's selections recently. He doesn't seem afraid to change a winning team and it seems to me he is much more adept than previous managers at getting the right team out for the opposition we're facing. At home, and against weaker teams, he's started Oxo (and Guly against Tranmere) - attacking intent from the start. Also put Chaplow in for Schneiderlin last night, I assume as a positive move. Away from home, or when we will need to defend more I still expect to see Punch start (for all his failings in front of goal I maintain he works hard for the team), along with Schneiderlin as a more solid defensive setup. I think Guly's going to become an "impact" player - can't see him getting many starts now. Also would be glad to see him push for Chaplow to be signed in Jan, and probably extend Guly's loan to end of season, assuming it isn't already. Not sure about Bignall - hasn't done much yet and there could be better options as backup for Rickie.

Andy_Porter Posted 3 November, 2010 Share Posted 3 November, 2010 We're getting there but it's nothing to get too excited about yet. We've basically got to the point where we are playing as well as we did from Feb - May, now we just need to get Ricky back on song and I'm sure we will win the league. I was thinking exactly the same re Charlie Austin. Swindon's season last year looks like a flash in the pan now and Austin is far too good to languish in the depths of this division.
