To the moron abusing 'not proper' Saints fans @ Winchester train station yesterday...

In the vague hope that your 1 brain cell enables you to use a computer, I just wanted to remind you that our club does actually have supporters who live in other parts of the county, country and around the world - not just the city of Southampton!

...and well done for shouting and swearing just when the doors were closing!!

*Rant over*

LOL .... it was probably (mis)Guided Missile.

Mistook you for Expat Fans :?

You don't need to do that as the anagram Misguided Lies is a perfect anagram

I was born in Southampton, but have spent the best part of 20 years living in PO postcodes. If anything, that makes more more of a fan considering the amount of **** I've had to put with from the Blue few (especially in the last 5 years). For those who live in an SO postcode, it's easy for you.

It goes to show how thick some fans are. I was born in Southampton, i don't live there any more. Does he think I should now change clubs i support? !!!!

To me any poor soul who supports our team is a Saint wherever they come from

Me too

Born in Southampton lived there for a few years but left over 40 years ago but still a SFC fan

On a similar note, I do find it odd how fans of clubs like SFC, always tell non Manc Man United fans etc they should "support their local teams". However, distant fans (the ones that aren't from the city of the team they support) of smaller clubs get the biggest credit for their "amazing support".

You always have these type of fans that shout the odd's. Also you always have them at the game and if you do not 'Stand up if you love the Saints' then you are not a real Saints fan. So being at the game is not enough, but if you do not join in their singing game you might as well not be there.

Born Southampton, and grew up in Southampton to the age of 23, and now I am 36 and have only lived their for 4 years in these 13, but feel just as stong about supporting the Saints!

Work out our win/loss percentage for lets say the last 15 or 20 years and you can tell me about all the "glory".

First game of footy I ever saw was my school mate Saints supporting Dad took us to Stamford Bridge in 1976 to watch a 1 1 draw the week before the FA Cup Semi v Palace. I was hooked and got my Dad to start coming to the Dell with us. Result, even living in Oxfordshire all my life I've been lucky enough to have a season ticket since 1981. Now me my brother, Dad and a load of others from Didcot still go to every home game. Premier League or League 1 as long as I can afford it I will always keep going. COYR!

I recall a fact bandied about whilst we were in the Premiership that suggested we had the highest percentage of fans from outside the local area.

It could explain the 10k drop off once we left the top flight. A lot of Premiership teams get attendees who just want to see Premiership football. It is after all 'the best league in the world.'

What utter rubbish.

I'm clearly not a proper fan as I left Southampton 38 years ago and live 200 miles away.

Can't undrstand why I've always remained loyal, go to local away games, have a season ticket which I use as much as I can and will always be a Saint.

No no no, its not us that aren't the proper fans, its those that actually live in Southampton who are the plastics, FFS all they have to do to see Saints is walk or bus a couple of miles or so. Proper supporters have to travel miles and miles, catch a ferry or even a plane. Never lived in Southampton in my life, but spent years crossing the Solent for home and away games, thats true support LOL Anyone who supports Saints has my total respect, you don't have to be mad to do so but it helps.

Scary story coming up.

Was born near Brighton and a Seagull fan as a lad, during Div 3 days - in times of Peter Ward, Mark Lawrenson, Brian Clough (nearly) and all that!. The last game I saw them play was at Wembley (1984?) 2-2 against Man U (got slaughtered in the replay!).

Joined the Army for 20 years. Mostly overseas (OK - Germany!) gave up watching footie.

Left the Army and settled in Wiltshire - adopted the Saints about two seasons before our Cardiff FA Cup Final (first St Mary's season) - no real reason why Saints, except they were the nearest team where I could see decent footie.

Now season ticket holder but never lived nearer the great city than where I am now.

I'll get my coat and hide my face in shame...!!

Would all depend on how you classed the "Local area", not many fans of any of the London clubs live in London.

our local area is classed as the southampton and portsmouth metropolitan area....which holds arrox 1.4 million people..

no wonder NC has plans to tap into that and build SMS bigger

Ah Salisbury, the rural traffic jam and home of Nimby's par excellence.

With a catchment area population of around 500,000 who use the magnificent (and mainly shutting down) City Centre Facilities of a rural market town.

And our choice of nearest League football club ensures that those of us & our kids who've been going since the 60's aren't real fans.

If only they'd shut down Odstock & made our mums or (ex) wives travel by Ambulance to Southampton General, we'd have all been real fans.

Having lived in Winchester for over 20 years it is definitely in Saints patch. Get to Basingstoke and you have reached the land of replica shirts. Saw my first game at the Dell 40 years ago this month. All I can remember is Ron Davies scoring the winning goal with a far post header. Happy days.

Well, that would depend on how far they're travelling to home matches and how many times they do it, I'd say.

Cos I was super-zowie in 2001/2, me, had a Saints season ticket and living in south Wales. Also went to loads of aways in the Prem relegation season, mainly because it was easier than going to the home matches. But we were in the Prem, so minus several thousand for that.

Not sure I really believe that the distant fans who DON'T go to matches would get any credit at all, and they're the only ones I'm remotely bothered about.

I also support my local team, both where I was born and in Southampton now I've moved here.

Do you mean "best league in the world" is rubbish, the information about Saints fans being distant is rubbish (it's true) or the 10k drop off being (partially) due to people not being bothered to travel ? If there's a level of demand that's dependent on decent opposition I can't imagine that having a more distant fanbase would HELP with loyalty.

Yeah, this. Should have been less vague.

Born in Brockenhurst, lived in Sway and New Milton. Moved to London in '83. Fiddled the dole to have enough to make it to The Dell for every home game in 83/84. Love Mark Dennis, love Mark Wright, love Steve Moran, love Dave Armstrong, love Glenn Cockerill. Season ticket for 15 years. Brought my son up to be a proud Saint in south London surrounded by Chelsea and Arsenal. He was the Saints mascot at QPR in in '07 and I cried like a baby. Love Adam, love Rickie, love Kelvin. Sorry....what's the issue?

Keep the faith.

Born and bred in an industrial town between Liverpool and Manchester, furthest south I've ever lived is the midlands. Was dropped on my head as a small child and woke up seeing red-and-white stripes so started following Saints when I didn't even know exactly where Southampton was.

Proud to be a not-proper Saints fan... and a northern one too! :)

Born and raised in Berkshire, now live in Surrey. Never lived in Southampton or even Hampshire, although parents did have a holiday place in New Milton, but that was after I became a Saint. Swearing at other Saints though, that's a ****tish thing to do.

I live in and work in Peterborough was born in Southampton I work most weekends so only get to go to a handful of games all away, about 4-5 a season but I've been doing that through the good times and the bad.

A fans a Fan IMO I hate the snobbery some fans have towards others who, given the money and chance would love to go every game but for many its just not feasible, most of us are just trying to do our part to get behind the team, if its buying a shirt or a season ticket it shouldn't really matter we are all on the same side at the end of the day.

Born in a small village in southern Denmark, every Saturday afternoon we would watch one game from England, saw a small piece on Ekelund and MLT and that was it. Been supporting Saints from afar ever since. Now lives in Norway and have only been to one game at St. Mary's my entire life (2004 season vs. Newcastle).

Proud of being a continental, glory hunting, not-proper Saints fan ;)
