Loan period to open.. Do we have a deal lined up?

Loan period opens tomorrow I believe, and OS reported recently to the effect that NA was happy with how the window went but there may be more good news to follow.

Seems too early to be referring to the summer, so logic suggests that perhaps he was lining up a loan deal or two.

If so will probably be out of left field and not anyone we've collectively thought of. However, please don't let that stop the speculation commencing forthwith...

Rumours were very strong about CMS, so maybe a loan deal can be sorted with option to buy in the summer? Also there were late rumours about his team mate Joe Lewis, and Posh did sign Exeter's GK about that time, so maybe a double deal is in the offing?

No, I doubt this will happen either, but wouldn't that send a message to the rest of the league if we could pull off a deal such as that?

See, you don't need a transfer window to have a rumour thread ...

CMS on loan to a promotion rival ??? You have to be joking.

This is what annoys me... there is a difference between a rumour and pure guess work!

I think the 'good news' referred to in that interview was the fact that Hammond and Lallana were close to a return to the first team, rather than new transfers coming in.

Sorry to burst your HCDAJFU bubble and all

No, the tenor of that article was totally about signings, therefore it seems perfectly valid to speculate on possible signings in the loan period and let's face it, unsubstantiated speculation is what we do.

Hell, we're good at it ... ;)

Not sure why so many on here our so obsessed with Joe Lewis. Has looked very average every time I've seen him. I know it's not all about him, but Peterborough have the worst defence in the league, so can't be that good surely?

I thought it was Joe Murphy that we were supposed to be interested in anyway. No doubt Sc*nthorpe told us to p*ss right off when we offered them 30 bob.

A centre half would be nice.

Fonte and Martin there you go. AP played Martin as did Wilkins. NA has decided, with the aid of Crosby I presume, that Martin is not yet good enough for the first team. It's pretty obvious that in any case possible "age and experience before class" is Adkins motto.

With the signings of NGuessan and Forte the development group has been pushed off the substitutes bench completely.Gobern and Ox would have been the only home grown players in the 18 last Saturday. Our starting line up must have had an average age of about, what 27/28 and Ox is just 17.

What if 1 of them gets injured? I don't trust Seabourne or Jaidi.

John McCombe from Port Vale anyone? Saw him wondering around town today (I only recognised him because my mate supports Port Vale and I've been to a few games with him).

Which town are we talking about?

He was born in the north, plays in the north, goes to uni at manchester, supports sheff wed and his brother plays for huddersfield.

This. I may be wrong but i'm pretty sure Adkins never used the words "more good news to come" anyway, that was just the writer of the article referring to Lallana and Hammond.

And if you go further back, keeping them out would appear to be even easier.

Ignore the Posh game - they're a mental team that will provide some of the most freak results you'll ever see.

Harder with Jaidi being old and not being able to play twice a week. I think we really need a long term partner for Fonte.

Martin looked like the ideal one earlier in the season, still baffled as to why he was suddenly dropped. He's 21, not exactly too young to be involved.

I agree, Martin seems to have all the attributes a young CB needs - decent in the air, reads the game well (this is where Seaborne needs to improve, he dives in too much which has cost us twice now), fair turn of pace and has looked solid in the games he's played. However, don't write off Seaborne too soon folks - left footed, fairly quick (CMS would do most centre-backs for pace and really ought to be playing at NPC level) and despite Saturday is improving. Remember, the back 4 were equally square and disorganised at Exeter and we got away with it due to Nardiello's miss one-on-one early on and an astonishing Kelvin save, more than compensating for his first half blooper. Adkins and Crosby need to really put our defenders through lots of organisational drills in training and encourage Kelvin and Bart to be a bit more communicative.

I think Jaidi looks like the "mark the opposition's big lump" emergency option sadly or an auxiliary striker in the last 10 minutes if we need to go more direct which he used to do at Bolton. He's been a good player over the years but time has caught up with him.

He's had some good games Saint Clark - notably Hudds at home where he looked a lot more lively but also he's been all over the place regularly against more nimble strikers such as O'Flynn and Nardiello at Exeter. He's a good back-up option by all means and I've always like him as a player, particularly against an Alan Lee type big lump but I'm not sure it helps Fonte to have a different partner every week.

Well for one thing he didn't play against Exeter, but even so I still can't remember him being "all over the place" except a couple of times right at the start of the season.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'd like to see us put in a cheeky loan bid for Andre Bikey with a view to a permanent signing in the summer. I think he's the type of player we've always lacked - big quick ball winner who will put himself about and dominate. He can't get a game at Burnley and may not be in Howe's plans.
