League One team of the year 2010/2011

Full applause in particular to Dan Harding, he has been brilliant this season.

Am I alone in being surprised that Kelvin is in there? Yeah he's had a good year but has not exactly been immaculate.

I'm more surprised that Harding's in there, to be honest.

Ultimately, Davis has been in goal for the whole season where we have the second-best defensive record in the division. Expect it was close between Davis and Ankergren in the voting.

Colin this is League one when immaculate doesn't need to be reached. Besides he's still one of the best keepers in the division despite being prone to the odd (near post) mishap.

True, nonetheless I am surprised that he is considered to be the league's best. As you say, it's league one. If these players didn't have these flaws they would be at a higher level.

Davis

Calderon

Greer

Fonte

Harding

Lallana

Oxo

Bennett

Won't go down well in Brighton, and I'm surprised that only one Huddersfield player makes it.

Well done to the Saints concerned.

Dan Harding ? This team is as much of a joke as the weekly nonsense they put out which bears no resemblance to anything that happens on the pitch either.

Is it just me who thinks AOC is only included because of the hype? Don't get me wrong, I rate him and I'm sure he has a massive future, but based on what he's doing right here and now, this season, I'm sure there are better candidates. He has put in a few very average performances in the second half of the year.

Davis... well if he really is the best in League 1, then there must be some shocking 'keepers out there. I don't want to slag him off, I'm just saying. He has had a fair few clangers this year. Glad to see Harding getting recognised, although I have to say I'm surprised as he was arguably better last year and missed out to Dickson. Fonte and Lallana were absolute shoe-ins in my book.

I'm not sure who I'd have at left back as I can't think of any I've been impressed by (though on current form he's not even the best left back at Saints), but aside from Richard Lee of Brentford I can't remember any opposing League One keepers being much cop at St Mary's so at least that's explained away.

And obviously we know BWP is gash, but he's scored plenty this season.

More surprised the players who support Mackail-Smith's goals aren't in there, Boyd, Tomlin and McCann have all been decent for Peterborough too.

Don't tell the Brighton fans, they're convinced they have the best player in every position in L1.

And we're arrogant :-/

But we are. We have 21k+ crowds on a regular basis, a 32k stadium, have spent large sums of cash and players wanted by premiership clubs. Our awareness of such facts is arrogance.

Who cares about Brighton anyway. They win the league in superb style and are still concerned with the semantics of other clubs, says more about them then their focus.

No, it's not just you. But then Gareth Bale has just won PFA Player of the Year, essentially off the back of a couple of CL group stage performances.

It's a conspiracy against Saints I tell you, everyone hates us & that's why we've got no-one in the..... oh! ;)

Slightly surprised that Glenn Murray didn't get in - thought he would have replaced BWP

I suppose it just remains for us to buy up the remainder when we get up to CCC.

Really? You want that waste of space BWP back here??!! He was as useful as a one legged man in an @rse kicking contest, yes he scored some goals, but he was more frustrating a player than one of note.

Harding has had two poor games this year...the beauty of our squad is that he's been keepin Dickson out and look how well he's done since coming in!

Sometimes we take the quality of our players for granted...nice to see they're appreciated by their peers.

Well done to all concerned

They win the league in superb style

At the risk of sounding like sour grapes the Brighton I saw at St Mary's weren't playing with superb style they were playing with niggly, shirt pulling, time wasting, petty fouling, typical South American "efficiency" - but tbf it won them the league. I know all that goes on all the time to some extent obviously, but they seemed to take the gamesmanship (2 minute goal kicks) to a new level! Perhaps that wasn't a typical day, it would be interesting to know how typical it was of their play this season.

Perhaps not, but have you watched every other League 1 keeper week in week out?

I'm amazed there are still Saints fans that don't appreciate Davis.

Yes he makes the odd mistake, but compared to the other keepers at this level he is bloody brilliant. His kicking is so improved, his command of the area better, he comes for more crosses than ever before, he is a terrific sweeper and he makes some great saves. I haven't seen a keeper in League 1 that can touch him. In the window there was so much talk about Lewis and yet he has been embaressing over the last two months.

Brighton fans will be fuming ha ha !

They shouldn't be though should they? They've just gone and walked the league. I do get the impression with some of them that winning isn't enough and they are longing to be recognised and their football appreciated by the masses.

Nail Head Hit. and some are really not happy that they arent. most of that biterness is transended onto saints. I can see next weeks game being quite hostile (well the atmosphere anways) towards us to be honest.

Of course not. ;)

Just shows that it can be easier to criticise rather then appreciate what we have.

Judging from some of their scorelines I would say it isn't typical. They seem to be perfectly capable of varying their tactics to suit the opposition. Fair play to them.

And Fonte? already proven to be a great championship player.
genuine question this: has he? `Great' or good? He's certainly a great League 1 CB. The best out there I'd say. I'm keen to know how each player would/will fair if/when we go up

player vote for this, for players they have played against. Northstandchat don't seem to understand this and think its a comspiracy!

It clearly is a conspiracy - all the other players are so bitter and jealous of Brighton they rigged the vote.

Seriously though, isn't the big thing about Brighton the fact that Poyet is supposed to have coached decent - if not the best - players to achieve excellent results?

I think Davis has been just about faultless in the last few home games (can't speak for aways). His distribution is quicker and more varied and he is claiming a lot more crosses. I'd like to know what the situation is with the goalkeeping coaching at the club. IIRC someone (Patred?) believed that we didn't even have a specialist goalkeeping coach at the beginning of the season.

I'm particularly pleased for him and also Harding to make the team.

What a team this could've been. Excellent balance and would champ!

Had most of the midfield been able to stay fit ;)

I gave him 10 out of 10 for his display at Orient and I give 5 out of ten for an OK performance. He was outstanding, coming for pretty much everything and catching everything cleanly (one tremendous punch that sailed towards half way). When fans moan at him for not controlling his area I often grimace and think, yeah I guess you might have a point, but I don't think you can say that about him recently.

Also does any other keeper even get remotely close to him when it comes to covering our back four. His decision making off his line has been amazing this year. I think he has got it wrong twice. Considering the number of times he is called into action due to Jaidi not having the pace, I think that figure is superb.
