Chamberlain: Stay or Go?

I would like to think he will stay and that he is not thinking about approaches from Premier League clubs as he is still young and will play more games for us next season than he would in the Premiership. However his Dad has clearly got the idea he is definitely going sometime...

I thought somebody said Alex and his mum had said we would probably be staying next season but they had a few things to sort out. I cant find this anywhere on the Internet.

I will say it again, he would have left if we did not go up, like many others, but now we can build on this keep Oxo and Lalana and Fonte and build a team around them.

I think there will be 4/5 to leave and the same number in, but only if we can improve on what we have already!

Interesting that he sees himself as a centre mid and not a wide player.

Stange as I see that is Lalana's position, a bit like Matty, but Lalana seems more effective out wide at time, so perhaps Oxo should play just behind the front 2?

He played his entire youth team career at CM, that's why. Players get moved around all over the place when they are young, it's all about finding your best position. Chamberlains is wide right, no doubt.

Sell him for 12m and buy Wayne Routledge, CMS + 1 or 2 others

If Nicola has decided that it will not be possible to keep Oxo it would be best to purchase replacements before the event becomes common knowledge otherwise all sellers will demand too much thinking we have more loadsadosh than we have. So whatever, keep up the mantra that Oxo is going nowhere..

I am not going to ruin my summer thinking that he is going. Think positive. Oxo will take us up to the Premiership.

He will cost somebody a hell of a lot of money, and Nicola aside our promotion and prospects place us in an even stronger bargaining position than we were in January.

It will be a top 6 club and no other that he would go to and so far I think their targets lie elsewhere.

I think he will stay for now.

Apologies if this has been posted already - I skimmed the thread titles and couldn't see anything similar...

According to this Danish footy website, Jacob Friis-Hansen (who stepped down as Liverpool scout in January 2011) is the new Director of European Recruitment at SFC:

http://www.bold.dk/nyt/Friis-Hansen-skal-hjaelpe-Saints-i-PrL

"The SFC-team is already very talented with names like AL, MS and not least AOC. The latter Friis-Hansen expects to be sold to a larger club for a hefty sum within long..."

From Lazlo78's Director of European Recruitment thread.

I think he is going to go. If he wants to leave then the best case scenario is we hold out for the best price and hope for a bidding war between man utd, arsenal, real madrid and get as much as possible as up front cash, we then need to use it for 3-4 top quality championship players.

would be a shame to lose him, like walcott i get no pleasure from watching him do well in champs league, hardly even count him as an ex-saint he played so few games

Do we have to go over this same ground again and again. He's staying. NC says so, he says so, his Mum says so. We're on the way up and he's coming with us.What more do you want?

Not once did he or his mum says the words "He's staying". Judging by the way his Dad talks in interviews, they have their eye on a move.

Let him go He isnt that great remember we were in league 1 and he hardly set that a light in the way previous saints wonder kids have i.e walcott Bale etc. I dont rate him higher than Nathan Dyer to be honest with you. Sell him now for whatever ridiculous amount that twot Wenger wants to pay and buy some players with Experience of the prem / championship.

Well, he's definitely going to go sometime, and everyone has their price.

If one of the big 4 w*nker clubs wants to offer 15mil plus first refusal for their young players going out on loan (including A O-C himself), I'd say we should go for it.

Oh now don't go all serious on us Alpine, I was beginning to enjoy this topic as it's a cut above your average TV soap.

Of course he'll stay, one way or another and if he does go ...it ought to be more than £10 million deal, too - that was last months price....I'm more interested in the " quality " that going to come, rather than that which will inevitably leave - in time.

Our target is to get into the Premiership in the next couple of years, and we can do that so much better with Chamberlain in the team. That said, I'm sure even Cortese would be tempted with £12 million and a loan back clause, or whatever stupid money is being offered, although we are not Arsenal's effing feeder club, so they can nosh off.

There's no reason why he should go. He's still only 17. Connor Wickham is another one who's at Ipswich, he gets quite a bit of media attention and is highly rated, but there seems to be an understanding that he's staying (has stayed put for a couple of seasons) with them. If he goes anywhere he's only going to get loaded out to a championship team next season anyway.

I believe he would have gone in the last window should any top club have been prepared to buy him out of his existing contract. We know Arsenal tried, but must be short enough for Cortese to hold them at bay. You don't want any of your better players to leave because it is impossible in the near future for Saints to ever have a player like Walcott, Bale or Oxo, without them coming up through the youth ranks. It's nice to see the Chamberlains being practical and accepting the situation when you consider the lengths Jones did to leave.

My optimism of him staying is tempered by the reality that the better he does, the quicker he will be off. Cortese can only fend them off to the limits of the contract and once his performances meet that value, he will be off. Playing in the Championship next season will be very good experience for the lad and give the vultures a far better perspective of the players worth. The only way we will get to keep him is if his performance don't rate the hype, but I still don't see any new contract being acceptable.

Interesting to see we have replaced Terry Cooper at long last and a fistful of money spent wisely in this direction could make a massive impact to getting into the Premier. So even if we lose Oxo, this cloud will definitely have a silver lining. Getting that automatic spot has allowed us to move quickly to establishing our needs next season and I would imagine the club would do something similar towards a DOF should we get into the Premier.

I'm pretty sure he'll still be here next season, because he's still got two years left on his contract.

Whether we'll be able to tempt him to stay longer will depend on whether we're anywhere near the Prem after next season.

I'm not sure whether AOC is making the decisions with this one. Looking in from the outside i'd hazard a guess that AOC and his mum would be happy to stay but his dad is seeing big £££

£15m release clause in his contract. Wonder if AOC has something similar.

To the tune of Drive My Car:

They asked his Dad what he wanted to be

Is it Saints or is it Pompey

He said, "Alex you'll stay at the Saints"

You'll never play for the fu cking Skates

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

He'll be a Saints legend

Beep beep beep beep yeah.
