Agents won't deal with us.

According to an agent on twitter agents won't deal with us. See below:

" @FootballAgent46: Lots of people ask about Southampton deals. A lot of you on Twitter! They are so tricky to deal with now most agents and clubs don't bother"

Worrying if true.

unless it means we are getting players who want to play for us rather than come for the cash.

Probably. I can imagine that agents come to us all the time now we have money, Cortese tells them 90% of the time that we really are not interested in said player, please jog along. Then when we really want someone, we move in for the kill. He's probably got a bee in his bonnet because NC's upset him recently when he has offered us a sh*t 3rd choice, 5 yard pass dificult reject from Ipswich.

Can only really see us being "tricky to deal with" in one way - selling players.

In terms of bringing people into the building:

Saints: "We will give X Club £------ for ------"

X Club: "OK, that's good enough"

----:"Would love to join Saints"

Agent:"They're tricky to deal with, i'm not interested.

Can't see this happeneing.

I think this comment has been taken out of proportion to be quite honest. Typical alarmist overreaction that some people seem to enjoy acting out.

Agents are there to tout players to anyone who will listen. They are PAID to do so.

I suspect it's a case of an agent phoning someone at the Club and saying; "I've got XYZ here, fancies a Championship club down south. Would you be interested?" and our reply is "No". Why is it no? Because we decide our targets ourselves (utilising our ever expanding scouting network) and if we want a player, WE will make the move for him. We won't bite at a suggestion just because it's been offered to us. Perhaps we've rebuffed a fair few, and small wonder. Everyone knows we've got money and are ambitious. We are probably a prime target for agents.

People need to relax and have a bit of faith.

Makes sense, but what about the clubs won't deal with us part? One interpretation could be that we are unrealistic when we try to buy. Kind of ties in with the mcs thread.

Then they can keep their players, if they don't want the money we'll go elsewhere. If the money's right anyone will sell to anyone. Even if it is Puncheon to Newcastle.

A lot people will believe anything.

A lot of people are very, very, very thick.

Twitter, and any text only medium is a very very blunt tool. We don't know this guy's motivations, we do not know if he has dealt with us before. Christ, imagine if he's Elliott Ward's agent!

These things will always require a pinch of salt, not that I care much for agents anyway.

To be honest I haven't been Cortese's biggest fan but this kind of thing makes me happy. There's a lot of stupid prices being quoted for average players - we do need to strengthen but we don't need to spend over the top for them. If we're ****ing off agents then we're probably doing something right and didn't Blackpool refuse to deal with agents? Didn't do them any harm and I'd guess we're not being as extreme as that anyway.

I think we will get better players in, but at this level we still have no guarantee that more money = better player.

Agents days are numbered hopefully .

Club, player, club, agents are superfluous and only serve to artificially inflate deals for their own benefit. A ridiculous situation imho.

Agreed. And I don't believe for a second that an agent would refuse to deal with Saints if it meant he didn't get paid. Sounds like sour grapes on Twitter from someone who couldn't get the money he was asking for a player to me.

This only fuels the whole paranoia regarding transfers this summer. It really needs to stop.

One minute its praise for Adkins and Cortese for delivering Championship football as they said they would, the next it's 'we're not going to sign anyone, what are they doing?'.

Make up your minds, doubters. My advice would be to sit back and wait.

It's not as if we're the only club not to sign anyone this summer. There are LOADS of them. It's not even July yet!

3. If a player wants to get on the bus he will

A fear i've had is this:

In league 1 we were one of the biggest fish. In this league we are now an upstart. Many other clubs will be attractive to players over us. (Promoted League 1 side, ambitious, but then so are Cardiff, Leicester, Forest, West 'Am etc) We want to attract players that can 'step up' with our ambition......... so do they..... and they probably are not adverse to playing the status quo for their gain.

Is taking a stand against these things counter productive? It could be noble, but also the equivalent of shooting ourselves in the foot.

Of course this assumes we are being difficult, it could just be one tw*t agent spreading muck.

If it means NC is getting up some agents nose, well done. He should call the tune, he's the chairman , agents have done more harm than good, our NC might even be the person to bring some sense back into our once lovely game.

Sadly, like FIFA the whole thing may be too self interested to want to change.

Don't bid for a world cup unless you have budgeted for greasing many palms, and don't bid for a player unless you lubricate the agent, after all, he will return the favour.

Or is this too cynical?

As are the people who won't even entertain for a moment that there could be just an ounce of truth to this.

Whereas the sensible people are those who only formulate their opinions based on sound facts. This particular little story hasn't produced anything factual yet, just idle gossip and speculation.

It must be sh*te, it's something negative about the club. Has to be rubbish. I wider if your reaction would have been the same had it been a nice positive tweet?

If this really is true wouldn't you expect to see it reported on other sites / newspapers by now rather than on just one faceless twitter account? The media haven't been shy to put the boot in before so surley if we'd p*ssed off the football community to the point that no agents or clubs want to deal with us the sun, mail, echo etc would have reported it by now.

So all the football league chairman go to Malta for their jollies, and yet all the football agents can afford to do is go camping? Surely football as a whole can find a way to get more money into the pockets of these fine upstanding gents?

Who gives a toss what one nobber says on Twitter? The fact we have signed loads of players over the last two season would suggest this is ********. Anyone who takes this seriously is a testicle themselves.

I'm glad you know for a fact that this is untrue. What a relief.

Truth is though that none of us know the truth. If there is any truth in it we have to be worried. Lets just see what the summer brings.

Why agents are even needed baffles me. If i was a professional footballer or sportsman I'd like to think that I'd be able to negotiate my own deals without being mugged off. I don't buy into the "they need to concentrate on football"nonsense either.... They are done by lunch every day FFS.

Football would be a better place if players took the time to live in the real world so there would be no place for the parasites.
