OldNick Posted 6 April, 2013 Share Posted 6 April, 2013 As the thread title says. He has done little wrong and so lets get behind his decisions and accept he is brighter and a better judge than most of us on here. I dont like the ticket tax etc but if we want to see top players and top football we have to accept there is a price to pay for us all.

The coming years should be very enjoyable as a Saints fan, just as the last 4 have been with him at the helm. Imagine where we'd be without him! No Cortese = No Liebherr family Sit back and enjoy the ride! Edited 6 April, 2013 by Matthew Le God

Ohio Saint Posted 6 April, 2013 Share Posted 6 April, 2013 There are lots of things I don't like. The problem is, those things I don't like are creating a situation I DO like. In the last few years we have had some things I am not accustomed to as a Saints supporter. Good ownership Good running of the club Good managers I'm busy adjusting, so what the hell do I know after decades of sporadic success/failure

aintforever Posted 6 April, 2013 Share Posted 6 April, 2013 Despite a few very minor cock-ups Cortese has got all the important decisions correct, Pochettino looks like an inspired choice. I thought it was crazy getting rid of Nige but I think our players are better than we all thought they were and were under-achieving. Things look very bright for the future, the potential is there for SFC to achieve more than many on here think possible. It will be a proper test for the new manager though. stthrobber Posted 6 April, 2013 Share Posted 6 April, 2013 Well I did say that on the balance of probabilities Cortese must make a mistake sometime and I thought that Pocchetino was it, but he is turning the team into a real force to be reckoned with in the division. I still worry about the money spent on players but every decision Cortese has made has been proved to be right. I still don't like the way Adkins was got rid of, but at the time it was condemned on MOTD but in recent weeks they've only said how great the team has played. Cortese has raised our expectations beyond perennial Premier League strugglers, but the downside for me is that I can no longer afford to go

trousers Posted 8 April, 2013 Share Posted 8 April, 2013 A pretty good article until you realise that this person hasn't actually watched too much of us, a pretty obvious error in one player assessment. I guess your referring to his comment about Ramirez? Gaston is one of those players that, from a fans' perspective can be frustrating, but someone looking from the outside in will tend to focus on his good points. The closing paragraph of that article is probably worthy of a quote on here... "It is perhaps a lesson to all of us that consensus, even an almost unanimous consensus, isn’t always to be relied upon. Cortese made a big decision, a very harsh decision, but it paid off. It’s hard not to feel sorry for Adkins, but Pochettino appears to be taking Southampton to the next level. We were quick enough to tell Cortese when we thought he was wrong. It’s only fair that we acknowledge that he might actually have been right." Suomi Saint Posted 8 April, 2013 Share Posted 8 April, 2013 Every club has to have a pantomime villain and it is usually the Chairman. Cortese's problem is that he also looks like a Bond villain....and he's vertically challenged to boot. But, he hasn't got one single decision wrong thus far, and yes - although I hate to admit it - it's time to trust him. I blurted out the bile when he sacked our Nige, but I am man enough to admit I was wrong. Our function as fans is to keep him on his toes, just as he keeps the Manager on his. If we avoid relegation - and it seems likely now - then a few chants of appreciation in his direction wouldn't go amiss.

sadoldgit Posted 8 April, 2013 Share Posted 8 April, 2013 I dont accept that Cortese has done little wrong. Whether you agree that Adkins should have been sacked or not the way he was treated was appalling. He overspent in the summer on players not worth that sort of money. Our first season back in the Prem and we look like a poor man's Liverpool rather than Southampton FC (bring back the stripes ffs). The programme sellers incident, his spat with the Echo, his treatment of MLT and Benali - there is quite a long list and it will get longer. In his defence many will say success at any price. I started supporting this club in 1966 becaus it was a family club not a "brand." Personally I wish the bloke would find a level of decency from somewhere. Agree, except for the overspending on players being an error. A club like Saints will have to spend over the odds to bring in quality until the club becomes a bigger name. Cortese has made errors but not in the important decisions.
