Tomorrow? Saints are 4-0 up

Ah it was today. Thought there’d be more chat about it. Great result 👏

Good crowd on a freezing night. 7500+ and a good atmosphere. My great nieces enjoyed it too, which is what it's all about out.

Just read 7,561 attendance, that's great and I know will be appreciated by the players , I think would have been quite a bit higher if Saints men weren't playing at almost the same time and on a warmer end of season fixture more families more likely to go, everyone loves seeing us beat the Skates 4-0.

Still in with a shout of promotion but will need a very strong 2nd half of season

Just want to post that Saints Woman's Team beat the Pompey Women 4 - 0 yesterday, especially the exceptional goals by Jess Simpson and Aimee Palmer

Well done to them.

The men's Team could learn a thing or two from the Ladies, who sit 5th in the WSL2 now.

And kudos to their manager Simon Parker, who has got them playing exciting attacking football.

Remember his name.

The reason I say remember his name is that if Tonde dont buck up his ideas, SR will appoint Simon head coach of the Men's team come February in another "ooh look how trendy and with it we are, we don't need no established manager" action.

I was going to say that Saints looked fitter, stronger and more physical than Portsmouth and was going to ascribe it to them being professional, but checking just this instant I see that Portsmouth went pro at the beginning of the 24/5 season. Either way, it does give an example to the men that being fitter and stronger does have an impact on games..

Good to see a crowd only a hundred or so below that at Doncaster, and definitely worth playing that game at St. Mary's.

It was a good game. Portsmouth had a decent spell in the second half, so at 2 up Saints still had to focus. Brazil stood out. But plenty of decent players. Ferguson and McAlonie continue to look like good buys.

Another Mott shout out. Already knows where the pass is going, as she gets it.

Crowd sounded good too. It would be great to see that as a platform for every game.

Another good game. Stenson having to make a close range block at 2-1, a few minutes from the end, showed both sides had good spells.

Good performances right across the side, to minimise Palace's chances ( 5 wins in a row)

Brazil had another special game. But a nod to Primus. She was taking up lots of good positions, broke up and created moves, and could really have received a lot more passes int shooting distance than she got.

As a matter of interest, if you want to watch them play. Can you pay on the day? At Silverlake, can't imagine they have the capability at SMS.

I'd be shocked if the ticket office doesn't have a couple of windows open at St Mary's.

As the season died out for Saints women it was a cracking end to the game to grab a point against top of the table Charlton, who are having a little wobble. We finish the campaign away at Forest next Sunday.

We also lost Pompey out of the league, which would be funny in the men’s game, but not so much in the women’s game as it is a big fixture in the season lost and the chance to promote the women’s game on the south coast. With Bournemouth screwing up their promotion chances we will not have a south coast game next season.

With one game left it will be Watford joining us from the south and Burnley from the north (another game for me to go to) and there will be a playoff place for one other with a playoff between 2nd in each of the north and south leagues Plymouth v Wolves.

I would expect it will be another rebuild as it will be every season as the WSL clubs come in and flash the cash as well as Newcastle in our league. This is the unfortunate state we find ourselves in even in the women’s game as it is a career for them as well. So who know what next season will hold.

In fairness, I don't think there are as many obvious standout players in the current squad compared to previous years who would definitely get pinched by WSL or monied WSL2 teams this summer. Given her England U23 status I guess Meg Collett is potentially next in line but there are quite a few of the squad who are at the end of their two-year contract cycles and therefore might be getting better offers from elsewhere. The men's team performance will have a bearing too, fairly clear that the club's Premier League status (or otherwise) will be a driving factor in the women's budget.

Agree that Pompey getting relegated is a bad thing for us - unless we get an interesting draw in the cups it means there's no real headline games next season.
