I think that Ross is probably thinking Saints are not so keen on me staying that they wouldn't offer me a new contract regardless of what League they would be in next season, in other words they didn't think he was suitable for the PL. I would be a bit underwhelmed by that reaction if it was me and maybe its time to see what might be available elsewhere, probably after the WC (by the way can't see him getting much exposure in the WC, 3rd or 4th choice now). I hope he comes back, but suspect he might end up in the SPL, possibly with Hearts rather than Rangers or Celtic.

There is no way a SPL side are paying more than we would, even on reduced terms. Been reported we have been negotiating reduced terms with him for a 2 year deal (i imagine with an option) since Jan. I imagine its either brinkmanship from him thinking we will blink given spygate, or he has an offer from someone he hopes we match.

If Ross is honest with himself, at his age, he's not right for the Prem League and much of that may or may not be down to his injury record. Therefore his realistic options are probably the Championship or maybe SPL.  In his shoes I'd probably be minded to negotiate another year or two with Southampton before this World Cup gets going. We've experience on how to use him and know his injury issues. Maybe a case of better the devil you know and I get that circumstances demonstrated that he'd probably not have been in our plans if we'd made it to the Prem. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet.

The later part to that statement is why I don't think he is in a powerful position as a free agent - He might get a decent sign on fee, but who's going to commit to a decent contract on a long term deal.

Disagree think larin was better and  offers more .. Stewart may. be slightly more clinical but larin more of a physical presence , faster and puts himself about more ..  both score goals in this league but larin makes his presence felt more

Not saying that but we have been super patient with him .. considering the majority of his time here was spent injured, regardless of his ability we have had plenty of fit strikers who didn’t get the chances he did  if we didn’t bring him back into the team he would be struggling to find a club right now

I think there's definitely teams at the bottom end of the Premier League who would take a punt on him. Useful squad player, not that expensive, showed he can do it against Arsenal

If he does play at the WC and gets injured, unfortunately he'll be in no position to negotiate with anyone. Bit of a risk, but hopefully he'll be fine and I wish him all the best if he goes elsewhere. We just need to make sure we bring in decent replacement and move onwards.

Yeah, I think it will . It’s not like it’s his only opportunity to play in a World Cup, there will be another in 4 years time,  & Scotland are nailed on to qualify.

He's about to become a free agent, so any calls would be going straight to him/ his agent and for as long as he's without a club I doubt he'd be cutting off anyone who wanted to discuss offering him a contract

Not sure this is true as of now. Might change going forward but I think he is currently still contracted to us probably until the end of June.

He is out of contract on 30th June 2026, they do not need to do business with Saints to sign him. They just need to contact his agent.
