Willo of Whiteley Posted May 29 Posted May 29 Playing catch up after a day of no signal: Fernandes - nice interview, means not much in the grand scheme of things but promising that he’ll be here next season. Downes - see above minus interview piece (Insta post) Boving - never heard of him Delap going to Chelsea, decent move for him, well deserved Ings following Will Still on Instagram, probably nothing in it, I used to follow Jessica Alba and nothing came of it Alcaraz to Everton permanently, some fans annoyed on social media, have some perspective - he was a flair player that didn’t do much in the Prem and was a bit-part player at most in his four months of Championship football, move on 1

I remember the astonishment as each week of the transfer window 12 months ago passed and KWP was still here. Fernandes staying would be equally miraculous; it would give the whole Club a huge boost. If he is to be sold, I hope the Club stay firm with a valuation of at least 40 million pounds. Even at that price, the buying Club would be well rewarded. 2

Has he played for Brazil yet? I mean he was born in Europe I believe but as the Portugal people came from Brazil maybe he could play for them in the copa America World soccerball trophy? 1 1

Harry_SFC Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Best case scenario is we sell Dibling for a big ish fee and we don't really need to sell Fernandes. If he isn't actively pushing for a move (like KWP didn't) and no one offers us ridiculous money then I guess I could see him staying. 5

qwertyell Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Reims lost their relegation play off and dropped down to ligue 2. Perhaps Billy Stiils might have an eye on a couple of his former players who may now be available for our level. He'll certainly remember their keeper Yehvann Diouf (25), who set the record for the most saves in a ligue 1 game (14) when Reims won 2-0 at Lens recently.

Disco Stu Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Just now, Football Special said: Still possible if multiple teams want him it will push up the price if they bid against each other? They would all simply bid £30m as Ipswich must accept. Then it's the players choice. 2
Turkish Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Just now, Disco Stu said: They would all simply bid £30m as Ipswich must accept. Then it's the players choice. Why is it we have this discussion every time a player has a release clause? 😂 the release clause is £30m so Ipswich have to sell for £30m to anyone who matches it. Like you say then it’s down to the player to chose where he wants to go 2
Matthew Le God Posted May 30 Posted May 30 (edited) 4 minutes ago, Football Special said: Still possible if multiple teams want him it will push up the price if they bid against each other? No. There is no need for any club to offer more than the release clause. Meeting the release clause is automatically accepted bid. It then comes down to Delap picking where to go. If all of the above is true then I’d have to say Ipswich got their pants pulled down there when Delap performed so well. Could end up with small profit/break even on THB and did nowhere near as well as Delap. On that deal, wasn’t the one that got away.

Not really, purchases are amortised over the length of the contract, irrespective of if the player is sold (I think). Sales are put straight on the balance sheet as an income. Also, it'll be interesting to see if he's sold in this financial year, as if they do it will be seen as a PSR profit, even selling for a loss (which effectively they will be with the 30% sell on). He will leave because there is clearly a PL market for him and he has shown that he can play 90mins every week in the PL. Combined with a wage cut there isn't really any benefit to him of a season in the Championship. He seems like a level headed, peofessional lad and is probably grateful to Saints for giving him a PL platform, so not suprised he acts like a pro in an interview, but it is fairly meaningless - especially when talking to club media. 1

Maybe though the counter is they got a top quality striker for a year without losing out. If they stayed up he would have been a massive part of it and I think the clause only kicked in because they went down. I would have loved him here and I think we would have looked miles better with him up top. 1
goodymatt Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Surely the 30% to City is on profit? Pretty sure it was based on profit in our Lavia sale? 1
chownie20 Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Ipswich must be flirting with FFP difficulty? Not seen their accounts for the last season but I think they made a net loss the last 2 seasons, and seling Delap for v little profit isnt going to balance the books? Not sure what other sellable assets they have really - Davis, but he cant defend. Hutchinso to Leeds maybe, but he has proven he cant play in the prem this year. Would be interesting to see what their P&L looks like.

Saint_lambden Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Not seen it mentioned on here yet - but we were linked yesterday with Rudoni at Coventry. Excellent player and another who's very good in the air. Looked a constant threat towards the end of the season at arriving late in the box to get on the end of crosses and bagged a few goals as a result. Probably would only happen if Fernandes does leave to fill the attacking midfielder void but you can see the profile of player we're looking at has flipped from being much less technical and good in possession to a focus on tall, athletic types. Long may that continue as we've been missing that in abundance for a long time. 3

The concept of taking young players who aren’t going to get the chance at City/Chelsea was a good one and did open up a rich seam to tap from. But you have to wonder how advantageous it is, with sell on % , especially if the potential sale is capped by a release clause. Seems these moves are becoming glorified loans. 1

Agreed broadly although the fee was much lower to Chelsea so it was a net profit of around £20m even after a chunk sell on to Chelsea. The Delap margin by contrast is much more slender and if it’s 30% overall not the just the profit it’s break-even.

It seems Ipswich are stuffed by the release clause as much as anything. Player power etc. But if the City % is on the fee rather than the profit then they’ve really ballsed up. On subject of release clauses, it seems that Rohl was badly advised on his. 1

Read about him after someone else mentioned him a while back. Articles linking him with Newcastle c£15m. Would he join us from Coventry? Apart from £ perhaps. I fear that playing for Frank might appeal to him more. Worth remembering Coventry signed him from Huddersfield. There are decent players out there if you can uncover them. 2

Bet his former manager at Man U would absolutely love to have someone in his squad who can actually play the system he wants, only question is if they can afford it. 2

They clean up all the talent, then sell any they don't fancy for exorbitant fees and now they seem to be ensuring they make even more should a smaller club, that takes all the risk, buy a player that works out. They have got things sewn up. 1

Does that mean they will consider selling Bruno Fernandes, with Mateus Fernandes a possible replacement?
