goodymatt Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago 39 minutes ago, S-Clarke said: He doesn't have a choice with the built in extension clause, it's baked into his current deal that we reserve the right to execute a 1 year extension whenever we want. There's nothing stopping us doing that, he can't reject that. My guess is that the club are trying to negotiate an entirely new deal, but we do still have that 1 year extension up our sleeve if he doesn't which we can execute at any point and still retain value on him. I understood we had exercised that additional year and so his contract now runs until summer 2027. So this time next year, he will have 1 year left and be worth less, having only played at championship level in the meantime. To keep him I think we will need to go up this season and hope he wants to stick around, can’t see him not moving on before the close of the 2026 summer window latest. 1
Dman Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago 1 hour ago, Danbert said: He never tackles, and he hardly runs apart from when he's got the ball - I'd be happy to sell him if it means we can keep Ramsdale and Fernandes. I'd say the 2 aren't mutally exlusive. Obviously Ramsdales wages would cause us a problem, but the reason we wont keep them, is because they aren't going to want to apply their trade in the championship.. I don't blame them in a WC year, either.

Chez Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Looks like Demarai Gray might be going back to Brum. I'm a long time admirer - he always seems to cut us to ribbons - but the timing (of his transfers) has never been quite right for Saints.
Rebel Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago 1 hour ago, Midfield_General said: In his interview he said a defender, a striker and a creative midfielder were the three positions that had been signed off to recruit without needing to sell first. But then in the same breath he said that the defender is Quarshie. So if we are looking at an RB too I think we'll need to shift Suga or Bree first - most likely Suga I would have thought. But Solak revealed he authorised Spors to spend in three key areas, before needing to wait for player sales to fund more potential incomings. "We will have to try to find new homes for a number of our players. We have to size down to maybe 25 or 26 players," explained Solak. "We are already discussing the potential of selling players, but Johannes has three positions in which he told us we need to buy immediately. "We gave him this approval and the budget to buy these before we need to sell anything, and the first addition is a defender, Joshua Quarshie. "He's now working on a striker that he wants no matter what, that should come before we sell anybody, and we are working on a creative midfielder. I guess its assumed by people that one of Sugawara or Bree will leave and we'll need to replace them in that case

Birmingham are going to be up there, could be a very competitive promotion race: Ipswich, Saints, Sheffield United, Leicester (without points deduction) and Birmingham all will be strong.

Farmer Saint Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago So far then, as long as Sulemana leaves, and using capology (which I know is just an indication) we have cut the following from the overall wages (using Prem wages £971k PW last year): - Lallana - £45k - Lesley - £45k - Sulemana - £40k - Onuachu - £30k - KWP - £20k 😂 - Gronbaek - £18k - Lumley - £10k So a reduction of £208k, or 22%. If we see Ramsdale, Bednarek and Aribo leave as well, that is another £260k, and would lead to a 48% reduction overall in wages, before the wage reductions kick in. https://www.capology.com/club/southampton/salaries/ 1

That means a new salary bill of c £250k-£265k before the wages of the new players are added in. Say they are all £30k each and there’s 3 more to come means salaries at c £340-£350k this season at Saints. Still higher than nearly all other championship teams I guess but not ridiculously higher like when it was near a Mill. 1

Doctoroncall Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Fulham working on Romulo deal Latest from Sky Sports News' Dharmesh Sheth and Lyall Thomas: Fulham are working on a deal to sign striker Romulo from Goztepe. Their opening offer for the 23-year-old, worth around £13.6m (€16m) plus add-ons, was rejected. Talks remain ongoing between the two clubs. The forward line is Fulham’s priority this summer, especially wingers, and a new young striker is also something they are looking to do. The club have no desire to sell striker Rodrigo Munizamid interest from Leeds.
Patches O Houlihan Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago 2 hours ago, goodymatt said: Did he like some spurs stuff on instagram too when linked to them? We’ve been trying all season to get him to sign and he hasn’t. My concern is does next season at championship level do anything to increase his transfer value, not sure it will. Plus he will have 1 year left next summer. If he won’t commit we probably need to sell this summer to maximise the benefit. Sad really. He was a shoe in for Spurs right up until Thomas Frank signed on the dotted line... Dibling not his sort of player surely

Rebel Posted 24 minutes ago Posted 24 minutes ago 1 hour ago, santolijador said: Armstrong to Norwich Sargent to Leeds Piroe to Saints. 🤨 I read it here - https://saintsmarching.com/stunning-three-way-striker-swap-could-be-on-the-cards-for-southampton - but I am not sure its a reliable source. Well I am pretty sure Sargent will leave Norwich for Leeds or somewhere abroad. I can see Norwich replacing Sargent with Armstrong if they pay us a good fee for him - but he's not really the same type of striker - Sargent is a 6ft 1 centre forward although probably not good enough for the premier league - Armstrong is a 5ft 8 (according to Wikipedia -he looks a lot shorter than that to me) inside forward. He's not going to fill the hole left by Sargent if he does leave Norwich. As for Piroe - I am not sure he would want to leave premier league Leeds for championship Southampton. He a 6ft 1 second striker really so we would still need a centre forward. I wouldn't say no but only if we get a centre forward as well.
