My guess is that the club are trying to negotiate an entirely new deal, but we do still have that 1 year extension up our sleeve if he doesn't which we can execute at any point and still retain value on him.

I understood we had exercised that additional year and so his contract now runs until summer 2027. So this time next year, he will have 1 year left and be worth less, having only played at championship level in the meantime. To keep him I think we will need to go up this season and hope he wants to stick around, can’t see him not moving on before the close of the 2026 summer window latest.

I'd say the 2 aren't mutally exlusive.

Obviously Ramsdales wages would cause us a problem, but the reason we wont keep them, is because they aren't going to want to apply their trade in the championship.. I don't blame them in a WC year, either.

Looks like Demarai Gray might be going back to Brum. I'm a long time admirer - he always seems to cut us to ribbons - but the timing (of his transfers) has never been quite right for Saints.

Decent signing, I’d be happy if Saints brought him in. Birmingham are going to be up there, could be a very competitive promotion race: Ipswich, Saints, Sheffield United, Leicester (without points deduction) and Birmingham all will be strong.

So far then, as long as Sulemana leaves, and using capology (which I know is just an indication) we have cut the following from the overall wages (using Prem wages £971k PW last year):

- Lallana - £45k

- Lesley - £45k

- Sulemana - £40k

- Onuachu - £30k

- KWP - £20k 😂

- Gronbaek - £18k

- Lumley - £10k

So a reduction of £208k, or 22%.

If we see Ramsdale, Bednarek and Aribo leave as well, that is another £260k, and would lead to a 48% reduction overall in wages, before the wage reductions kick in.

If that’s right and we end up with a 48% reduction BEFORE The wage reductions come in we can take an educated guess and say that the remaining salaries ( of c £500k) will reduce by I think it’s 40% ( or 50%?) with the relegation clause. That means a new salary bill of c £250k-£265k before the wages of the new players are added in. Say they are all £30k each and there’s 3 more to come means salaries at c £340-£350k this season at Saints. Still higher than nearly all other championship teams I guess but not ridiculously higher like when it was near a Mill.

Sainz will end up at a top division club, I've seen reports here in Spain that he is lined up as the Nico Williams replacement at Athletic Bilbao - one of the few players that they can actually sign with their transfer policy...

Fulham working on Romulo deal

Latest from Sky Sports News' Dharmesh Sheth and Lyall Thomas:

Fulham are working on a deal to sign striker Romulo from Goztepe.

Their opening offer for the 23-year-old, worth around £13.6m (€16m) plus add-ons, was rejected.

Talks remain ongoing between the two clubs.

The forward line is Fulham’s priority this summer, especially wingers, and a new young striker is also something they are looking to do. 

The club have no desire to sell striker Rodrigo Munizamid interest from Leeds.

I read it here - https://saintsmarching.com/stunning-three-way-striker-swap-could-be-on-the-cards-for-southampton - but I am not sure its a reliable source.

Well I am pretty sure Sargent will leave Norwich for Leeds or somewhere abroad.

I can see Norwich replacing Sargent with Armstrong if they pay us a good fee for him - but he's not really the same type of striker - Sargent is a 6ft 1 centre forward although probably not good enough for the premier league - Armstrong is a 5ft 8 (according to Wikipedia -he looks a lot shorter than that to me) inside forward.  He's not going to fill the hole left by Sargent if he does leave Norwich. 

As for Piroe - I am not sure he would want to leave premier league Leeds for championship Southampton.  He a 6ft 1 second striker really so we would still need a centre forward. I wouldn't say no but only if we get a centre forward as well.
