He mainly plays 4-2-3-1 or one of the variations on it according to most sources - but more importantly he's adaptable and uses whatever formation fits the players he's had. Would be nice to have a manager who's pragmatic rather than a system obsessive...

Some people saying mainly 4 at the back. Other people showing his Lens team with 5 at the back. That team translated into a Saints team - with wing-backs and no wingers. Other people saying AA won't play because Still does play wingers.

It's strange that we really seem to have no idea what system Still will play - and therefore what type of players he needs us to sell or buy in this transfer window.

Wondered what people’s opinions are; at what point do you consider us no longer in “the early days” of the transfer window? In my opinion we still need a minimum of 6/7 signings and with the season starting just over 5 weeks away wondered what people think

It will probably change through the season but going by the way Lens set up for the final match of the season:

————————New GK———————-

——Quashie——THB—-New CB/Stephens—

————————Charles————————-—

—Sugawara—Downes—Fernandes-Manning-

————AA/Archer/Stewart—Downs———

It’ll be Downs and Archer surely

Archer is a good championship striker 18 goals in 40 games which if you really think about is 2 goals a game

As long as Manning is not playing ahead of Welington I’ll be satisfied. If not, I’ll lose a fair bit of respect for Still.

When there's only three more friendlies before the season starts. Right now they've been training for two days and don't play a game for another 10 days, so still early days. Then the latter stage of the window is once the league games have started and there's about three/four weeks until the deadline

Not really, that’s one of the advantages we have with WS as manager - it leaves our opposition guessing what our set-up will be and how to counter it.  It would be strange if we telegraphed our system to everyone else so that they had plenty of time to work out how to counter it (I’m looking at you, Russell).  As long as those doing our recruiting of players know what skills we need in our players, we should have no concerns.  Ever the optimistic 😇.

Which 6 players? Its behind a paywall...

The article doesn't say which players, but it does say this about Rohl:

As Chansiri battles to avoid full-scale mutiny, with staff also unpaid, highly-rated manager Danny Röhl is also believed to be closing in on an agreement on a severance package after two seasons at the crisis club.

Röhl has held talks with his coaching staff and informed them that he will be leaving, following negotiations over a settlement. Henrik Pedersen, one of Röhl’s assistants, is in line to land the No 1 job if he receives certain assurances.

Marca reporting that Liverpools Diego Jota has been killed in a car crash. Damn.

Bloody hell, he only got married a few days ago.

Absolutely tragic, terrible news. 😢

Rohl got to be going to Leicester then surely.

Sunderland about to sign Petrovic (GK) from Chelsea. I wonder if that will lead us to stepping up our interest in Anthony Patterson who's been linked with us the past couple of transfer windows. Would represent pure profit from a PSR point of view for them and he's likely now to be back-up there which - at 25 - I doubt he would want.

Right on time.....

Sheffield Wednesday didn't even pay us the loan fee for Shea last season. They're in deeeep trouble...

Southampton are understood to be due money from midfielder Shea Charles’s loan fee and salary last season.

We'll get paid at some point. The league won't let them do anything unless football creditors like us get fully paid.

As a club at the Eastern end of the M27 found out.

Glasgow Rangers fans seem to be getting excited at the potential prospect of Brooks signing for them.

Bizarrely, Brooks has been quoted as saying he would play for Brent for life.

What an odd thing to say.

He appears to have succumbed to the cult.

Possible typo in that last sentence….

Would be a great signing for them on paper, until he lets them all get unfit and then makes them all look stupid with how he tells them to play.

But it looks like he's getting all his affordable mates back together, so hopefully the call for the Wee Man is coming in 3, 2, 1...

Then he'll need a really commanding ball playing centre back that can step into midfield to dominate the game.

It’s only strange because EVERYONE and his dog knew how we were going to play under RM.

If it seems like it’s unclear what system Still is going to use I’d say thats a good thing and I hope he keeps everyone guessing all season. It may just be you’ve identified his system - no system just do what’s specifically needed to win v each opponent.

WRT to transfers I think we have a very good idea of the player characteristics SFC will prefer in general  height, pace, athleticism.

It's an odd thing to say given Russball strangled his more natural creative instincts. He looked a different player for Bournemouth last season with the shackles of RM cast off.

Absolutely agree. It'll be interesting to see how we set up against let's say Eastleigh (where you'd assume we want to dominate) and the game against Brighton, where you'd expect we'll be on the backfoot.

I don't know anything about him, but if he is any good, why would Sunderland let him go? Even if they sign a new keeper, in the PL, you still want/need a decent number 2. Is he not that great?

I think Sunderland are looking at signing a new keeper and, if they do, Patterson is thought very unlikely to stay and play second fiddle. Patterson is an excellent keeper so would be a good replacement if Ramsdale leaves.

If he is excellent, why do they want a new number 1? If he's not `excellent', just good, then won't he be their ideal number 2?

Players that have helped their sides get promoted tend to be very reluctant to depart before getting the chance to show they can play at that level.

I will bow to those that know more about him and the position, but if Sunderland don't think he is good enough for the Prem, is that not a red flag? We have lots of championship type players (players that have shown they cant make the step up). Perhaps we should be signing players that we think are going to be good enough for the PL, but others just haven't seen it yet.

I thought he wanted to move up norf to be closer to family? Glasgow is a bloody long way from Warrington (assuming that is where his family is from).

In the article, the reporter stated there was a concern but didn’t mention specifically what it was 🤪
