I’m still angry at Arsenal for that. I loved Stevie Williams and they ruined him.

I bumped in to him in a cafe a few days after it was announced. He was in his own so I had a brief chat. He told me he didn't want to leave but was told by Lawrie Mac it was a done deal. Who knows what was true but it was hard to see him go.

And yet, that's exactly what he chose last summer. Maybe you missed it?

Ramsdale isn't qualifying for England by sitting on the bench or playing for a team where he will proceed to let in tons of goals. That leaves only mid-table and above sides that are crying out for a number 1, of which I can think of... zero. I don't think a spot will open up for him unless their existing number 1s get injured. In my opinion, he can only realistically replace Trafford as a third-choice keeper under those conditions even after a good season, unless Johnstone and/or Pickford get injured. And if the latter two get injured, he'd probably be able to get into the side as part of a title-winning Saints squad...

Looking at Ramsdale, I find it difficult to believe that he would want to play for a bottom six Premier League club or sit on the bench for a top ten club. I can see nothing more soul destroying than to lose week in week out whilst picking the ball out of the net. Playing for England will get more competitive and playing for a poor team or on the bench will hardly help his cause. There may be an attraction of a good financial deal living where he's happy and hopefully playing for one of the top clubs.

It sounds like Dibling and his family are contented where he is but his management company wants to transfer him and make a killing. That could be resolved by the family in due course. Saints are right to demand an excessive fee.

As for THB and Fernandes, we really need to keep them both. Again excessive fees should be the asking price of any enquiry.

Ramsdale is interesting. Would picking the ball out of the net in a Prem relegation battle really make him more appealing for England than pushing for a top-spot in the Championship?

Wonder what his overseas options might be. Does that help an England call-up more?

I've got a sneaky feeling he'll stay...

Of course there's different reasons for why Trafford was picked, high potential being one. But, he was also picked ahead of Ramsdale after impressing at a Championship side who were winning every week, while Ramsdale was playing well in the Premier League, but picking the ball out of the net and losing every week.

Burnley also retained Trafford for the Championship and rejected bids from Newcastle for him last summer.

I think we should throw all the money we've raised from the sales of KS and Tall Paul (transfer and wages) at trying to lock in Fernandes, Ramsdale, Dibling and THB (in that order). If we can keep those four we will have a very good window.

They’re already ‘locked in’ they have contracts until the summers of ‘29, ‘28, ‘27 and ‘28 respectively.

Throw the money how exactly? They are under contract.

I agree.  Firstly we stand a far better chance of getting promoted and secondly at least the 1st three you mention are the only premier league quality players we have now KWP has gone.

I think he must mean chain them to a radiator or something. In a cellar. On Orkney. You know, locked in.

Suggests their offer will be close to our £25m valuation and that in principle he has confirmed he would be willing to move to the north east.

Why do people want this out of interest? Do people see someone Sunderland have deemed not good enough as a potential long term option for us then?

I think it’s more a case of ‘anyone but Bazunu’ and probably McCarthy to an extent as well.

I think people see him as a better option than crisp packet hands Baz.

Sometimes that enough....

Yeah, just a confirmation by the club that Bazunu is not the one would be good

Okay so in a years time if we get promoted then potentially all 3 are on our books and we're looking for another yeah?

McCarthy finishes summer 2026 unless the club are stupid enough to give him another extension because he’s a ‘good lad’ as they’ve just done with Stephens. Bazunu would have one year left, subsidised loan to league 1 won’t hurt financially if we’ve got promoted again.

I suspect Johansson would cost a fraction of the fee they’d want for Patterson.

I’d be happy with that, the thought of Bazunu and/or McCarthy fills me with dread and the opposition with delight. I’d rather have Shilton back in goal in his 70s than those two 🤡

IF... the club were smart it would be a 1 year loan for Ramsdale.  McCarthy will be out of contract and Baz can be loaned to League 1 or play U21s...

You don't think they'd rather face Bazunu? I would if I was them.

Just do the obvious thing saints. Johansson we should have signed last season as backup and binned off McCarthy. He's obviously good enough for this league and probably good enough backup for the prem. He'd most likely be a few million which is easily affordable.

Agreed - Ramsdale loan, Johansson first choice moving to second when we get promoted. It really is that easy.
