And Celtic sold him to Rennes because the player wanted to play in one of Europe's top 5 leagues. Rennes sold him as he wasn't getting enough game time. Apparently the Championship is one of Europe's top 5 Leagues. Fancy that.

Seeing the penalty on the news this morning it looked like the ball hit the player then hit his hand so a pretty unlucky penalty . Possibly would have overturned by VAR but they usually go with umpires decision 😄

Oops, too much pal ale!  Yes, from memory Fuller joined us for 90k.    The Japanese lad at 10 million GBP is looking like a shrewd buy for Brum, don’t you think?

He did, very lively and should have scored. Looks like he'll be a good signing for them at this level. They've done some good business - was surprised to see they'd signed Lyndon Dykes, that one took me by surprise. But overall I definitely saw weaknesses from both sides, Brum couldn't close the game out and Ipswich were just poor, so that's promising for us.

If he was £10m then a big signing for the champ but worth it for sure, he was easily their best player. Tbh they didn't really create much other than through his movement and harassing the defenders though that could be because Ipswich have more defensive quality than most sides. Certainly Brum who are supposed to be a Martin-ball possession side couldn't play through Ipswich back to front at all.

Also be interesting to see what other teams' approach to Brum playing out will be. Like many others I thought people figured out how to press us into mistakes towards the end of the season - the top 2 had our number from the start, but then everyone else copied them and we finished poorly. As I said earlier it was like PTSD watching their keeper pass straight to an oppo forward on the edge of their box, just the finishing isn't as ruthless at this level.

I turned the sound off. I couldn't stand that constant whining and whinging about the referee. Sure, the penalty was harsh for any traditionalist but not incorrect under the present interpretations and thankfully VAR.

No actual football to be seen anywhere.  The two teams were too intent on having a brawl.

I watched second half of Chelsea v Leverkusen who had Nathan Tella in their team but pretty anonymous.

Chelsea looked really good with a large squad full of expensive buys and decent youngsters.

The gap between the Prem and Championship grows larger by the day.

If we do go up and allowing for the fact that money would have to be spent on our squad it would be another struggle.

Yep, that's why I think we have to be really careful about buying 'best of the champ' as you have to use your money so well to have a chance. Basically *if* we go up, to have a shot we need to hope a couple of recruits can step up a level - say, Charles, Quarshie, Downs are all hits - also keep hold of Fernandes, Dibling, Ramsdale or replace with established talent, then ideally buy a couple more Fernandes level or higher bargain £15 million players AND THEN hope one of the established teams has a mare. Pretty nuts.

Sheff Utd v Bristol City was a very good first half. Both sides looking more assured than we did today. They both move the ball much quicker and sharper than we did today. BC winning 2-1 but think SU might well turn it around second half. We'll need a marked improvement but should be better having a victory under our belt.

Letting go of one of your most successful managers just because they lost in the playoffs is never going to end well. They've been wide open at the back in this game, no way are they contenders.

This league does like anyone's based on the opening games. Much more so than recent seasons.

Well my half time prediction was way off and I hadn't realised how good this Bristol City side is. They passed and moved intelligently, played between the lines and defended well when they had to. They could be the dark horses this season. Excellent performance from them.

Yeah tbf their starting 11 isn't that bad. As you say they've only got 3 subs who aren't youth players. Now their goalscorer is off injured.
