Charlie Wayman Posted August 17 Posted August 17 (edited) On today's evidence, Jay Robinson is a better player than Dibling or Fernandes. Keping him is going to be a major challenge. What a goal that was! Wellingtom off, Manning on, Armstrong off Archer on please Will Edited August 17 by Charlie Wayman

Completely positive about everything Ipswich do and negative towards everything Southampton to, in particular with challenges. Assuming he’s an ex-player. Never watched a Saints game where Andy Hinchcliffe is the co-commentator? For some reason he detests us. 3

While he was being played on the wing there would be times when he received the ball, held it up well and lay it off. His huge weakness was getting from the wing into goal scoring positions. Personally I think he’s a clear classic case of ‘square peg in a round hole’. I wasnt questioning your suggestion. I was just asking a question if you or anyone else knew when he last played down the middle. Not every post on here is someone looking for an arguement. 1

Holmes_and_Watson Posted August 17 Posted August 17 We made that difficult for ourselves. Our defence sharing in collective responsibility, by sharing our the errors. Quarshie having a poor time of it in particular. Still learnt that a back 3 isn't great, as we lack cover for it, even if it does get Cap'n Jack into the side. At least Fernandes grew into it more, and good to see Robinson off the mark. As others have said, AA wasted in the middle. Some of the line up feels like Still is pointing out to Sports where the quality is needed. 1
NewYorkSaint Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Our midfield trio are the difference. If we can avoid another defensive error... and bring on Archer for Armstrong, + a Dibling cameo... and we win this. 3-1 Saints!

Agreed, some brain dead and panicked defending which feels like it’s been going on at Saints for far too long. Otherwise some good stuff led by Fernandes and Robinson
RedArmy Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Nice of sky to bin us off of the UHD feed to watch some pundits talking instead. Thanks for that.

Harry_SFC Posted August 17 Posted August 17 (edited) Didn't think I'd be saying this but Charles is much more complete midfielder than Downes. I really like how he looks to pass forward as much as possible. He's also a lot better at carrying the ball forward than he was a couple of seasons ago. Just looks so much more confident. Saint NL Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Have sky sports bumped s off at half time? Switched to PL coverage. What's going on? 😂

Midfield_General Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Just now, Hawkswood said: Strangely not for me. Nor me. Him, Robinson and Fraser have been the bright spots. We need to get them ball as much as we can because we look OK going forward but shocking at the back.
bpsaint Posted August 17 Posted August 17 If we could sort our backline out this game is definitely there for the taking. Starting to think we need a proper defensive coach because it looks embarrassingly bad so far

obelisk Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Saints doing their best to hand Ipswich a goal. Back off the post.
Saint Scott Posted August 17 Author Posted August 17 Amateur hour continues, repeatedly giving away stupid free kicks.
Maggie May Posted August 17 Posted August 17 I can’t remember the last time we came out for the second half raring to go.

Saint_clark Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Just now, saintant said: Very lucky there - where's Quarshie's pace He seemed to deliberately slow down so he couldn't get turned. Should be focussing on stopping the first problem rather than a hypothetical second.

RedArmy Posted August 17 Posted August 17 1 minute ago, Chez said: Has he always been a yellow waiting to happen or is this just in the last year? Think it was worse last season because he was a few steps off it in most games and his only way to recover was just to foul. Seems to be struggling to get that out of his game.
Oldandtired Posted August 17 Posted August 17 I’m nearer my eighth decade than my seventh…I reckon I could beat Quashie. On this showing he’s a liability. 1
vectraman Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Downes keeps on making crap fouls when he doesn’t need to. Quarshie constantly poorly positioned. Used all our luck up with the shot off the post back to Bazunu.

benjii Posted August 17 Posted August 17 I think Quarshie did ok there. Could have easily given a red card away and managed to make the angle tight. Situation came from Stephens diving in for no reason. 1
Willo of Whiteley Posted August 17 Posted August 17 THB, Quarshie and Downes have all been poor today
SWLondon Saint Posted August 17 Posted August 17 9 minutes ago, sfc4prem said: Most of you are watching a different game to me. I thought we were decent. Yeah, I'm also confused what everyone else is watching. After the complete balls up for the goal we were all over them until the equaliser, then we sat off a bit and it's more even. Dunno what others are on but absolutely nothing has come through the centre of midfield so that's working fine. Down our left is the danger zone. Welington has been good pressing up on Clarke but committed stupid fouls and got booked for nothing. Manning should come on but I think that works better if Fraser or Armstrong is in front of him so that would be a reshuffle. Armstrong has actually done alright up front, he managed to bring down a couple of high balls and made their CBs look uncomfortable.
Saint_clark Posted August 17 Posted August 17 How long is he going to give Quarshie? He looks lost in this game.
BotleySaint Posted August 17 Posted August 17 1 minute ago, Saint_clark said: How long is he going to give Quarshie? He looks lost in this game. Yet he needs exposure to get up to speed. To learn. So it's a balance I guess.
