spyinthesky Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago In all my years watching Saints I cant remember a worse striker performance than Downs tonight. What is it with our striker recruitment? Absolutely crap!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8
AlexLaw76 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago He seriously needs to be sent to the reserves/on loan What a ridiculous signing he is. Farking awful Does not run, cant pass, rarely challenges, does not make the man marking him uncomfortable at all - WTF is that about? Carrillo was better than him 9

How anyone thought he was the answer to our striking issues baffles me 3
Monk Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago He's arguably one of the poorest players I've ever watched. There's no football IQ and the technical ability is appalling. So naturally, you'd assume we're banking on his athletic profile of 6ft4 and developing that. As a fan, I'm angry at his performance as a player and the clubs recruitment. As someone who dabbled in talent ID for a very brief period, he wouldn't of passed the provisional screening (watch before you add to a pool for further reporting and observations) for League Two club. 7
SuperSAINT Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago His best touch was actually when a Liverpool player tackled him and it went to a Saints player. 2 5

Gloucester Saint Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago (edited) 6 minutes ago, 4nd7 said: Ali Dia in disguise! Worse than that. U21s and then when does the MLS window open? Might just take a loss or loan with a very low buy option. The club have been stubborn about Bazunu but they really are needing to write off here, be lucky to get 2m for him. I had a feeling at the Stoke game the players really didn’t want to pass to him and easy to see why. Whoever recommended signing the worst footballer I’ve seen National League and upwards for any club should be taken outside of an SR board meeting and shot by one of Dragan’s party. SaintNewForest Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago It's like getting a worse version of Sekou Mara, which is impressive considering how bad Mara was. 2

SuperSAINT Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Would be currently better off with Baylee Dipepa up top from the 21’s 2
notnowcato Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Martin Keown has a better first touch. Fuck me, Peter Sutcliffe has a better first touch. Shame as we seem to have spunked too much cash on the lad. 5

Ekelund Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago The problem is now you can see the rest of the team reacting to every shit touch. It’s like watching a make a wish at the moment. There was one, on the 88th ish when still, downs (the average one) and manning just stood there, arms out wide and basically calling him out. It’s obvious now.
Gloucester Saint Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago 1 minute ago, SuperSAINT said: Would be currently better off with Baylee Dipepa up top from the 21’s Miles better footballer than Downs. SR can’t stick their head in the sand like they’ve done with Bazunu, this is an AI signing and total fuck up. Just take the loss and give him away to a smaller MLS outfit and they take the wages. He will never improve to the point of playing in the Champ and he’s miles off League 1 as well. He wouldn’t even get a game at Cheltenham and we are managerless (Cotterill might becoming back) and rock bottom of the EFL. I’m not joking. 3
RedArmy Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Would love to see him in training. He must be doing something right or surely he wouldn’t have started at the weekend? 1

Monk Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago (edited) The other element I would be exploring is; Is it that the coaches are working with him, tasking him to impose himself to their ball carriers, runs beyond and his learning IQ is too low? or there's an arrogance that he thinks he doesn't need to do that. or (and one I'm also leaning towards) The standard of coaching intervention and feedback is poor. Which would fit with the narrative of Captain Crankypants (Still) of not having enough time on the training ground? Edited 9 hours ago by Monk 1
dsrdorset Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago It's quite staggering how crap Downs is. Not sure I can even find the words! We must never see him in a Saints shirt ever again. 3

SfcPhil Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Let's just remember he's a Johannes Spors signing, that he "had to have" or however Dragan put it. That along with Stephens 3-year contract and possibly the recruitment of Will Still (time will tell), are potentially three blotches on his résumé. 2
Gloucester Saint Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Just now, CB Fry said: Ooh, that's exciting.....I lived in Cheltenham during their golden era under Cotterill. Jon Brady also linked, good option at that level. Some sympathy with Michael Flynn where the Mike Garlick takeover only happened last few days of the window but they’ve been diabolical, much worse than Saints.

I know hes mentioned a lot in jest, but Ali Dia didn’t look any worse in the one match he played, similarly out of his depth. 1
S-Clarke Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago He's 'raw', but as we all said, we didn't need a gamble striker when our options weren't convincing as it was. The two ends of the pitch remain our problem places, most of our goals will need to be from wide and AMC imo. It'll interesting to see how his stats look come the new year. 2

Im with you. I dont get it. Ive played with many over the years who knew where to be positionally and secondly where their first touch needed to take them. I see absolutely no ability from Downs when it comes to being in the right place at the right time, nor having a good enough touch to create something for himself or a team mate. 3
Paul_B Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Never want to see this guy in a Saints squad ever again. Absolute fucking fraud, how he has become a professional player to this level is beyond me. Give me Ali Dia over him any day! At least he could run. 5

ally_uk Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I haven't really been paying much attention to him. Come on lads he can't he that bad surely ? Preseason when he banged in that goal I thought hold tight, he looks a decent finisher.... So what's going on? Struggling to adjust? Or is just naturally shite and the preseason goal was a fluke.... Also why isn't that Japanese lad playing? He cooked preseason!

Badger Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago (edited) Has looked pure dog turd so far. Awaiting him to burst into form, become unplayable and go on a scoring run so some posters can make Sadio Mane comparisons. Edited 8 hours ago by Badger 1
Badger Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Perhaps a loan to Goztepe might be on the cards in January
die Mannyschaft Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Loan to Eastleigh would be good, not far to travel.
Dusic Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Regardless of ability he also looks so low on confidence and afraid of receiving the ball. Manning was into him the whole time he was on the pitch as nothing was sticking to him at all. Shows how little Still rates Stewart too.
PJ Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago And he didn't even celebrate the goal. Not even a hint of a smile. What's that about? We equalise at anfield and he doesn't even seem to care. There is zero connection between him and the rest of the squad. People don't want to pass to him. No point him being on the pitch. He's probably someone who always had a physical advantage. No way is he a footballer, though 1
sfc4prem Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Can't trap a bag of cement. No aerial presence. No tenacity or desire - chance to make a run when Armstrong was breaking in the second half and he barely gets past a jog. I swear he must be breaking some sort of human rights legislation by serving up these bag-of-shite performances. Sack the bloke off. 1
trousers Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago What puzzles me is that Pochetttino obviously sees something in him to have called him up for the USA squad this year... Unless the USA talent pool is much worse than one assumes it is...
Oh no Mick Mills Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I really want to believe it'll come good for Downs but I remembered that I watched him play for FC Koln and the warning signs were there for all to see...

Osvaldorama Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago (edited) Ali Dia Literally the worst player I have seen since him. Only saints could sign a player this shit. I didn’t think we could see a player worse than guido Carrillo but fuck me, we’ve actually done it. Weak, dumb, can’t control it, can’t pass it, can’t shoot. Fuck sake Edited 6 hours ago by Osvaldorama

Colinjb Posted 44 minutes ago Posted 44 minutes ago I thought the USA were taking 'soccer' more seriously now. This guy has 6 international caps. 6. The mind totally boggles.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 41 minutes ago Posted 41 minutes ago His attempts at winning headers were absolutely abysmal too. Twice he half challenged, ducked out of it and the ball hit him on the back.
