It wouldn’t have been a great surprise if Downes had joined Lego at Ibrox. But I suspect this might have been dependent on Rangers getting into the Champions League to fund it. Without that and uncertainty over Martin’s position it now seems unlikely

I'd have been surprised even if they had made the Champions League. Rangers, even with the Champions League couldn't buy a player who cost £18m a year ago and the wages that would go with that.

Their record signing is... Tore André Flo for £12m... 25 years ago! They haven't come close to those numbers since then.

Glad it wasn’t just me. I love wingers and #10s but this is a type of player we’ve been lacking for quite a while. Our midfield has been unbalanced over the last couple of years.

Who would he replace? One of Downes or Charles?

Long season and there will be bookings, injuries and maybe the odd red card so plenty of minutes for all.

And in today’s football with 5 subs and tactical subs even if he’s in bench to start with he will get on most every match. And then show why he’s a starter. I reckon will take him one crunching tackle, one ridiculous chase back and regain the ball, maybe one Hollywood pass and cream On the cake one winning goal to show why. Maybe a yellow v Pompey for taking off his shirt while celebrating his debut goal to seal it. 😁.
Our bench is looking ridiculously strong if the newbies are all starters..

Maybe it's just monoglot me, but it's not the "being on Reddit" bit that bothers me, more the "being in German".

All 11 comments from fans of the club where he was on loan are glowing. The most comprehensive is:

"A really good footballer, two-footed, agile, nimble, great vision, also aggressive in duels, always available to pass to, ball distributor, like a Schweinsteiger in his best days, only better."

1 thing i really liked is that when he had to describe himself he gave as much weighting to his work against the ball not just with that, dont hear that very often from a player so very refreshing.

Any word on if this was done in time to feature tomorrow?

you would hope they did the registration etc before the 12 deadline and did the other bollocks after lunch.

Fully expect him and Aziz on the bench though, honestly out of the "3" i seem to be more happy with Jander, he just gives me a proper elite player feeling or maybe its just cos he's german 😃

Yup, I get exactly the same feeling. Maybe even a little tingle as well. I've said too much.

Very pleased with this signing as this guy looks a baller and talks the talk. Have to give due praise to Spors and the recruitment team for what they're doing - Mads, Jander and Azaz are three really strong additions and hopefully Fellows will be next and maybe Scienza as well. Our side has the potential now to play some fast exciting football once everyone settles in and Will Still decides his best eleven and formation. Not even bothered about losing Dibling and Fernandes due to the standard of the players we're bringing in.

He's a little more unknown than the Azaz/Fellows/Mads signings, but he's still a no brainer upgrade on what we had depth wise in that area.

We needed that extra CM and a little more security in the Downes/Charles roles, and he'll give us that. Nuremburg fans love him, which is always a good sign.

Likewise. I see in his videos a player that is extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet like a Jack Clark or younger day Lallana. Very different to our one touch midfielders like Downes and Smallbone. Really hope he can hit the ground running and be our Hamer/Ndiaye/Lallana type playmaker that makes a difference.

Welcome Casper. 3 CMs should be enough, I'd be greedy that I'd like a 4th but if it means we keep Matsuki that's fine.
