Four and a half hours until the team is announced and already feeling frustrated.

You just know it’ll be the same back five/six as previous league games

No we don't.

The players in the back 3 in the week were better than those 4 from the previous games, so I reckon he'll switch it up today.

The issue he has picking a 3 is that he can't accommodate the new wingers plus Azaz in either a 352 or a 343 or a 3421.

Although it's not what I'd pick, my guess is we'll mirror their 3421 system. Someone to come into the 3 alongside THB and Stephens. I'd like Edwards who can step into midfield when we're out of possession, and carry the ball when he has it. I reckon Jander to be benched, and  Azaz will be one of the 2 in behind Archer.

After scoring last week and looking like he had his mojo back against the jammy scousers in midweek he should definitely be starting today alongside Archer so we have to keep the ball on the deck and push forward quickly

No way does THB deserve to play. Has to be wood IMO.

I agree, but I think THB will.

If we're playing a 3, I'd  argue a case for Stephens, Wood and Edwards. I wouldn't have THB near the team or bench. Quarshie would be the sub for me.

Re the bench, I'd like to see Aribo there today. He's an option we should be using.

Yep. THB has been awful and Wood looked like he really wanted it

Would have serious concerns if he persisted with THB today. Even Stephens has been light years ahead of him for the past 9 months, he’s been a disaster. Happy if he drops both but if it’s only one then it has to be THB.

Yeah I want to see Leo start and get a run. But I can’t help feeling it’s either him OR Fraser. And Fraser is a form player atm. So I think it will be him much as I’d like to have both on pitch-let alone Jay and Fellowes.

Problem is- Leo is defo going to shoot and try score- whereas Fraser is the safer option because he will pass it backwards and be defensively solid.

I’ve had enough of that passive way of thinking.

I want us to try to score every attack and be very dangerous. When Leo or Jay get the ball last third something dangerous might happen- with Fraser it also might but the odds are lower and he’s just as likely to do a Flynn Downes and recycle the ball cos he cannot take a player on one on one anymore or play in a risky way cos he’s too long in the tooth. And I love Wee Man! So I’d start Leo /Jay even if it’s defensively riskier because fuck it we will score more than them.

Agree I 'd like to see Leo play and if he reverts to a back 5 there is no need to take the safe option.

And i will only accept Stephens back in if he is combined with Wood and Quarshie.

I'm going / hoping for a 2-1 win today.

Can't help feeling that today's team selection is pivotal. If he doesn't keep the back four from the cup game at the very least, he's declining to select on form and performance and sticking with tried and previously failed. The fact that we all know JS is a guaranteed starter on account of the inexplicable decision to retain as captain has to be the most nonsensical moves this club has ever made. If THB retains his starting spot, we may as well give up any hope of going up now.

Fair fucking play

Picked based on merit for once. Scienza, Robinson, Archer and Downes probs the ones staking a claim but can’t argue really

Big changes.

No THB, Stephens, Bazunu or Downes. Feels like the scar tissue has been removed

After the Hull debacle you can’t blame Still. Perhaps the Liverpool game could have helped us stumble upon something? A little harsh of Scienza and Downes though who played well midweek, open goal miss aside.

No Bazunu though, thank fuck.

Those that played on Tuesday deserve their chance. Those that played last weekend deserve to warm the bench. Still showing who's boss.

No Downs to come on and break his duck by getting the winner though I see.

So Still does have some balls after all 👍🏻

Turns out he has a massive pair. Fair play.

Is Edwards playing right back?

Jelert has to feel the most hard done by there as he was excellent on Tuesday, but perhaps he's better suited to a 3/5 defensive system...?

reckon right of a back 3, but tucking in, with manning getting much further forward

Mads out altogether

I thought we started with a back four but ended up with a back five. I believe that this contributed to their winning goal. I can't remember names but Chiesa was hovering between our right back (Jelert?) And the defender inside him. Jelert moved upfield to cover the Liverpool left midfielder leaving Chiesa to be handled by his colleague to his left who unfortunately was ball watching at the time.

Chiesa simply ran into open space and as able to set up the winner unopposed.

With a back five nobody knows their responsibilities.

Not sure there can be too many complaints from folk about that team, fair play to Still.

Baz, THB, Stephens all dropped as people have been clamouring for. Downes possibly hard done by after Liverpool but he’s been shite this season.

Down to the players now then to put in an appropriate performance

Bloody rough on Jelert & Scienza, on what basis does Fellows and Azaz get ahead of them? They've done F all to warrant a start this week. Why F about with Tuesday night's side Still, you clown. We could have won this if you hadn't meddled now we probably won't.

Boro will know Azaz inside out and exactly how to neutralise him. Fellows is one dimensional, dull and predictable whereas Scienza seems mercurial and capable of moments of magic.

Criminal to leave him out.

That is not a good plan. Looks like a back four. No Downes who I thought was superb in the week.
This is a big meddle and not necessary. This means Jelert is dropped also and he was excellent in the week…. How does Harwood Bellis even get on the bench?

Good team and almost the end of the Russball era. I think he saw McCarthy makes the saves the other night and realised that so long as he doesn’t try to be Rene Higuita, the shirt is his for a while. So good to see THB and JS out. For too long they’ve been the first names on the team sheet when in all honesty, they’ve been pivotal in our decline. The pointless passing, the error strewn defending and general incompetence. Just hope fans are willing to give this new set up more than half hour before they start moaning.

Fair play, sending strong message that no one guaranteed a  game. None of the chancers in charge last season had the balls to do likewise

Based on what? One game in a back 3?  You've not seen him in a 4.

Holy shit! This is a good message to all players. You need to play well to get in/stay in the team!

A good shakeup is what this team needs. Too many were comfortable playing shit and keeping their place.

I think Edwards RB in a 4. Not sure how we'll play ahead of that. AA wide left would be odd, but...
