What About Michael Antonio,   is he out of contract? would fill a gap for the rest of the season.

Bearing in mind the injury issues affecting Ross Stewart's availability it would be very brave of the club to take a risk with Michael Antonio as I dont think he has featured for West Ham since his recovery from a very serious car accident.

If the Turkish side has notkept up with the payment schedule perhaps we could bring back Tall Paul. Im told hes the top scorer inTurkey at present. Surely hed score loads in th Championship

Sport Republic's recruitment is so predictable. They've made an offer to Metz for Cheikh Sabaly, a 5' 6" left winger, who's scored 3 goals in 45 Ligue 1 games, none of them this season.

Meanwhile the top teams continue to rise high above us, in every sense of the word:

Tallest Championship Teams (2025/26)
Rank Team Approx. Avg Height
1️⃣ Coventry City 185 cm (6'1")
2️⃣ Millwall 185 cm (6'1")
3️⃣ Stoke City 184.8 cm (6'0.8")
4️⃣ Middlesbrough 184.5 cm (6'0.7")
5️⃣ Bristol City 184.3 cm (6'0.6")

We all know we need a big centre forward, but we're going to end up like Jeremy Corbyn with a small team of left wingers.

The profile of player we purchase has been mad for a long time. We need tall athletic footballs who can getaround the pitch and not be bullied like our lot seem to be.

Is Josh Maja someone we should look at in January to resolve some of our problems upfront?

Unless he signs a new contract between now and then he will only have 6 months left on his current deal at WBA so would probably be reasonably low cost to buy.

At age 26 he's a good age, but at 5ft 11 he's about the same height as Archer - but seems to be much more capable of leading the line - and more physical.

Another one to take a look at could be Yuri Alberto who is still at Corinthians - but he could be expensive.  And still only 6ft. tall.

He’s an odd one, Alberto. The last couple of seasons he’s been averaging just under a goal every other game in Brazil. On the flip side his blooper reel makes Shane Long look like Del Piero.

Would be much more interested in Cadamarteri at Sheff Wed. Also noted Pierce Charles was again in a Saints box this weekend, this time with his brother rather than watching him.

This was confirmed long ago and rubber stamped by keeping Bazunu and giving Stephens a new deal, it now just a matter of how lunatic it will be

Very fair point, I stand corrected.

Surprised Redmond is without a club. He’s a bit limited but only 31 and you’d think he could do a job for someone (but not us).

Bearing in mind the original thread title you’d hope we’d be in for a competent keeper, commanding centre half and a goalscoring centre forward. It was ever thus…

I think I may have solved our striker problem for the rest of the season...

Cureton was at Saints as a youngster. Unfortunately, he and Darren Eadie slipped through our fingers.

He's smashing it, looks too good for that league at the moment, can watch him tonight in FA Cup

Good to hear. He's a goalscorer, no doubt about it. The two bad injuries obviously stalled his career and ruined his chances of making it here, but every chance he forges a very good career. I am guessing we wont offer him a new contract, but if he keeps scoring at that rate the club would have to reconsider wouldn't they?

I thought he’d left on a free rather than going there on loan. Pretty sure there was a comment that we’d agreed a hefty sell on %.

If we hadn't just got Romeu, I'd be suggesting we look to loan Lewis Cook from Bournemouth. He was injured at the start of the season, but hasn't had much playing time since returning from injury. Maybe they are just easing him back. He's probably way out of our league.

Ah. I missed that. Real shame about the injuries and the timing otherwise he may have been at the standard we needed this season. Good luck to him.

I would argue sports republic ruined his chances of making it here. BBD, Mara, Downs etc...

Had Ballard had their combined No. of appearances, he'd have more goals for us by now. Kids knows how to score.

We've signed some absolute gross over the years to block pathways for the academy kids, and in so doing we've lost some real gems, and some that loved the club...

Dom Ballard: Leyton Orient sign Southampton striker - BBC Sport

Dumb decision to buy Downs and then sell him at a time when we were going down to the Championship. I think we will rue this one.

Tolu Arokodare wolves.

Massive Nigerian .. scored goals in belgium..what could possibly go wrong ..    tongue firmly in cheek .

Wolves only just spent £25m on him in the summer. Although he's only really getting a few minutes off the bench, it seems unlikely they will loan him to a championship club at this point.

Taiwo Awoniyi is one I’d try to get on loan

He was a player we discussed in the summer, pace and power - just what we needed, but these PL players just don't drop down a league these days and the foreign guys especially use their `PL fame' to get contracts abroad with half decent European sides. Awoniyi scored a lot of goals in Germany before joining Forest, so he has plenty of credibility.

He has another 18 month on his PL contract. He isn't taking less money, so Forest will have to pay a sweetener to shift him.

Forest fans really like him, but he is never fit. His injury record is really bad.

Looking through the PL squads, I struggle to find a striker that we could get on loan. PL sides don't seem to have many CF and with such large benches, they are not going to let any go out on loan.

Yes. I wouldn't mind if we only made one purchase in the window as long as it's a centre forward with presence. We looked a different team when Ross Stewart played a couple of games like the centre forward he was signed for.

Sounds our sort of player.

Brings back memories of the days of Jamie Cureton and Chris Iwelumo ripping it up at Colchester in 2006 ish. Proper little guy playing off big guy vibes, I'm sure we were linked to Cureton the season after that.

Younes Ebnoutalib is catching the attention of bigger clubs with 9 goals in 12 matches in our favourite shopping centre, the Bundesliga 2. He plays for tiny Elversberg, who are briefing the media that they'd accept between €6-8m for him in January.

22. 6'3". A handful. Shades of Pelle in the way he moves.

Could be a flash in the pan, though. His career has only really gotten going this season, having spent most of it thus far in very low level leagues.

Scienza might know him a bit, as his Heidenheim beat Elversberg in last season's play offs to retain their place in the Bundesliga.

(From about 1:30)

(couple of nice finishes here too, from 0:42)

(a hat trick against Greuther Furth, who Quarshie played for last season)

Anyway, just throwing it out there in a try-and-get-into-the-sport-republic-mindset kind of way. He's ticking data-driven boxes in Germany. Ergo, he's probably on list.

Younes Ebnoutalib looks a good prospect and much better than Downs, however a couple of issues - the opposition looked poor in comparison to most Championship sides and perhaps most importantly, did you notice how the players passed to each other in front of goal - we don’t do that too much.

Maybe we should be looking more at the manager....
