Yes they should stop spouting this rubbish. It is just fancy saying. Nearly all recruitment in football for managers is done on past records. Results, points per game, how much they are given to spend. All data. You need a right fit, where you interview and see if they have the same vision.

Without wanting to get caught in your pedantic web, there's a difference between a purely data-driven model vs. using data (in whatever broad and pointless guise you're boringly trying to present) to supplement decision making. 
 

It would seem we have failed to use any context or reasoning in so many of our data-driven recruitment decisions under SR.

Having watched 3 consecutive 5 goal home drubbings just before Martin was sacked makes me wonder just why he is even in the conversation 😖

I doubt he is because Alfie House has stated the hierarchy at the club didn't like him and he fell out with them in the end. Having said that I'd put nothing past this mob of imbeciles.

Agree 100%. We can't progress until whatever the rot is at the heart of our club is ripped out. If that means long term players or staff have to go, then watever it takes. We need someone who is going to get respect in one way or another (serious arse kicking if necessary) and get the basics right again and steady the ship before we start seriously looking to the future, promotion etc. Any the old school managers would do well I'm sure if they fancy a challenge, even if they only come in to sort the culture out.

There's no way Martin is being considered, I just can't see it. He absolutely screwed us over and is a key reason as to why we are sat where we are today.

We need some sense back at the helm, not more ego-driven possession for possession sake nonsense. 

I'm sure his multiple boyfriends still at the club would love him back, as they miss their days off - but the clubs priority should be shifting his boyfriends out of the club, not bringing him back to appease a toxic group.

The game has got too clever by half. Prioritising the recruitment of potential to make profit on future sales, when to get out of this division you need a spine of experience is naive in the extreme. Couple that with a promising but inexperienced kid in the dugout and it was only going to go one way. We need a hardened old pro in charge but I worry that this approach and his request to sign a 30+ striker and CB in January won't be cool enough for Sports Republic.

There’s only 1 group of people I’d trust less than SR to get a decent manager onboard & that’s some of our supporters. Lego, Ralph, even good old Nigel gets a mention. Lampard, Rodgers, Gerrard, FFS get real. Stevie G gives latest interview “how I turned down Rangers to manage Southampton in the championship”. Nurse!!!

The most worrying thing about the RM links are these rumours of senior players wanting him back. What the f*** are they on? He got them humiliated week in, week out in the PL until they quit on him and got him sacked. Did the ginger kid dropping them for being shit hurt their feelings so much they want their poncey mate back? FFS.

What about Patrick Viera?

Has just departed from Genoa by mutual agreement as they are bottom of Serie A nine games in, and the team are getting booed every game. He managed them to promotion last season. Tonda Eckert was his assistant for part of that promotion season - get the old team back together but to get Saints promoted. 

  • Knows British football
  • Respected as player and manager
  • Currently not such a huge superstar he wouldn't talk to us (?)
  • Would make Spors look farsighted potentially.
  • Doesn't fit SR's usual manager mould which even they must admit isn't working
  • Ballotelli doesn't like him - so it would seem he doesn't suffer fools

This is an interesting shout and something which crossed my mind when I looked at Ekerts history. 

Viera is exactly the type of stature and reputation who'd command respect and call out the nonsense. He wasn't 'too bad' at Palace, nor Nice before that.

We could do 100x worse and I feel his sort of experience and stature is what we need to pull these saps into line. I actually called for him back in 2023 before we got Martin, as I felt we needed some 'gravitas' and someone with stature. 

I could be totally wrong but he's the sort of guy who could shake it up.

I mentioned pre-Still about Viera being a Spors appointment at Genoa before Spors left, and how he took them from near the bottom of Serie A to midtable when appointed. Didn't work out the following season though although not sure about their background, i.e if they sold players and not replaced.

Exactly. None of the players who previously worked under Martin and who are still here are anyone that I would want to keep at the club

We should be looking for a guy who's proven at this level. 

Gets teams promoted.  

Unlike Still has a clear defined style of play. 

The players can get on board with. 

Lovely hair and beard. 

Sexy girlfriend. 

Lets get back our Russ.

Also won the League of Ireland first division with UCD and the FAI Presidents Cup with St.Pats as recently as 2014.

Im amazed you put 18% as imbeciles. Reading the nonsense online, fans who dont seem to realise that booing the team when its 0-0 how that effected the team who let a goal in within 30 seconds. The players were edgy from the off and were settling into the game when some decided to boo.

I understand the frustration, but the team needed support not booing. This took me back to some of the saddest days I have watching the Saints when th fans were fighting amongst themselves during the DOncaster game. Made going to football no fun at all.
