What you mean the managers who have been sacked because they're shit?

No, I mean the managers who have been sacked because that’s what clubs do when they want to improve results. Name me one manager who has never been sacked.

Sensible, low risk appointment IMO as those making the decision have had the rare chance to actually judge the quality of his work in the actual setting he is being placed in.

They have not rushed and have taken their time and clearly the players respect and have built a rapport with Eckert which has lead to by far the most cohesive performances for many months where players look motivated and seem to actually enjoy it again.

Good to get it sorted and to just focus on the games.

Kudos to @OrnelasGladis who called it initially.

In many respects the club are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't in respects to appointing TE.

If they don't a section of the fans will say he won 4/5 games, the players were playing for him and we look a much better team than a month ago. Players have publicly come out giving their backing to the guy etc

If we do a section of the fans will say, lazy appointment, no ambition, massive risk, the club don't know what they are doing, cheap skates etc

Every managerial appointment is a risk and to be honest i don't see many currently out there and available (that would come to Saints!) that could do any better.

Had wondered whether they were waiting for O'Neill to be available (M not G). Now that the Bhoys have got Nancy installed Martin is available. Didn't he have a house in Winchester at some stage, or was that someone else?

Not a surprise, fully expected. The club wanted this as soon as they shuffled him into the first team, at the expense of the incumbent Trollope/Lallana.

And then when you add the continuous club fluff pieces with players blowing praise up his arse, it was always the end goal.

Is it the right call? I don't think so, personally. He had a great run of 4 games, things clicked against Charlton and Leicester specifically - but we came down to that same bump against Millwall, all the old fragilities and lack of game management on and off pitch came back to bite us.

The club clearly can't hang on an Interim for long, so they had to make a call - but I don't agree with the view that there is simply no one else out there other than Tonda, we'd have been attractive to a wide range of more experienced managers.

But it's what it is, the club have stuck themselves on Tonda - will it be the first SR masterstroke, or yet another catastrophic misjudgement in their history of misjudgements?

Well said, re your last paragraph I think we know the likelihood of how this will turn out, unfortunately

Name a manager who has never been sacked!!

Pep, Jurgen, Zidane, Simeone, Enrique, Deschamps, Gallardo. Football is different from most other industries in that managers who get sacked are still in demand. Some still go on to do a decent job others are just crap. I guess the trick is to sort the wheat from the chaff - easier said than done. The alternative is what we seem about to do - give an opportunity to a young manager with potential and hope it works out. Both options carry risks.

Predictable as night turns into day really. Another weak Selles type appointment. I really cannot believe a club like us cannot recruit a decent and experienced manager. I fully expect us to drift into mid table by the end of the season, with the probability of changing manager again for next season. Sports Republic are clueless.

Sadly, this is correct...

Will look a really shit move if we balls up the next couple of games.

I was dead against it after the first couple, just carried on Still’s rubbish system and looked unconvincing. Obviously we looked good at Charlton and decent enough against 10 man Leicester. I’d have preferred a decision after this week’s big 3 games

Well put.

They must see something in him to think he's a genuine first team manager but it's a huge gamble.

Winning 4 in a row was great, but what happens if we now lose 4 in a row? If the 4 wins got him the job do the 4 defeats get him sacked?

Bizarre thing to say. Virtually every manager in football has been sacked. As an example, Eddie Howe has been sacked in the past "for being shit" but no one at this point would suggest that means he wouldn't be good enough for us

It wasn't that long ago that A LOT of people said exactly that.

Sport Republic are pretty clueless. It was inevitable it would be Tonda Eckhart.

Using those tenses implies that it's already been announced?

As for Eckhart, whatever his status I just hope he learns quickly. Aribo's performance hopefully told him something, that the player has an infectious case of lethargy. Hopefully Matsuki will at least offer energy, and from the written report seemed to feature a fair bit for the U21s in their last game.

Although we lost some of our best players over the last couple of years the disappearance of JWP and the others being mainly bench fillers at their new clubs perhaps underlines that whoever the manager they won't have too much to work with.

And so the writing off a new manager begins!

Personally i'm prepared to give the guy a chance. Irrespective of how shit the teams were that we have beaten since TE took control it still amounts to victories when we have previously struggled to get anything against even worse teams. The players appear to be playing for him and no one can argue that we have picked up points we would not have done with WS still in charge.

I would love to know which managers are out their, available and would actually come here and GUARANTEED to make us a promotion chasing side!

Its always mildly amusing when people say the teams weve beaten are rubbish, there have been plenty this season who weve drawn and lost too in that category!! Seems once we fail to beat those so called easy games theyve gone on great runs eg Derby, Watford, Blackburn

Oh no the manager hasn't won all the games so we should replace him with a 6th guy in 365 days. Good normal stuff.

As it stands at the moment, Eckerts appointment will end in a mid table finish, just outside the play-offs.

Would love to know the metrics that have led you to that conclusion.

Winning games at this club, with this team, in this season, against these opponents is not the way to convince these fans that you can win games at this club, in this season, against these opponents. The only way to convince people you can actually do that is to have done it elsewhere, with someone elses club, a different group of players, against ideally the same opponents and in other seasons and then dress it up as "experience".

There isn't a manager good enough for us. We've just won 4 in a row then lost 1 and people are disappointed the manager is not being replaced. You'd do well to find a manager able to keep up to that demand.

I think giving someone a chance is a fair outlook but the problem is our recent historical managerial appointments has undermined our confidence in the whole process of picking managers. The need to get this spot on now is crucial. Unfortunately he is very young and very inexperienced (as were Selles and Still). I get there may not be a lot out there able or willing to come, but that shouldn't influence the decision of appointing him which should be on his merits alone.

Why? It’s the quickest way to make a list like that to help out answer a question.

What is silly, is someone thinking about someone making a list from ChatGPT and spending their own time and effort to post about it.

List of hobbies for people with too much time on their hands to try;

  1. Woodworking
  2. Drawing or sketching
  3. Painting (acrylic, oil, watercolour)
  4. Model building (cars, planes, Warhammer, Lego Technic)
  5. Leatherworking
  6. Pottery / ceramics
  7. Calligraphy
  8. Photography
  9. Video editing
  10. Guitar / piano / music production

Hope this helps.

Puff piece before the official announcement

Oriol Romeu on Tonda Eckert: “The way he’s changed things around has been amazing. I think he is a coach who has character and great communication skills. I am sure we can be really successful and that we can do nice things together throughout the season.”
