Overwhelmed by the amount of players in the squad. Unable to utilise his preferred tactic due to the Championships lack of press. Couldn't figure out multiple players best positions. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but how did he get through he interview stage. Can see why he couldn't get a reaction from the squad. 'Glad it worked out for them.' Yeah, me too. But you're kinda chucking yourself under the bus saying that Will. Maybe too honest. Will Still said Football Manager only allows you to have 25 players. 2

Unless you think it’s a coincidence that we got a big experienced centre forward, a new goalkeeper & Bree wasn’t shipped out again, the minute Tonda got his feet under the table. Amazing coincidence that we signed Downes, Manning, Wood, & LEGO’s Scottish mate when LEGO was in charge wasn’t it? The simple fact is, somebody decided we were ok with Baz in nets, that Bree could go to Charlton, and we didn’t need an experienced big man up top, that somebody might not have been Still, but he was defo onboard with it, guaranteed…. I was going to reply to St Louis directly but this post saved me a job.
scumbag Posted Thursday at 07:28 Posted Thursday at 07:28 (edited) Another, slightly better, ex manager on the latest 'Overlap'. Snarky little comment from Keane around 15.20? 'Did they train at Southampton?'... Edited Thursday at 07:30 by scumbag
JohnnyShearer2.0 Posted Thursday at 07:46 Posted Thursday at 07:46 I think its a bit of a cop out from Still. Conveniently didn't mention he had a whole pre season to figure stuff out. Lock at Poch, came in straight away and knew what he wanted. And the team transitioned fairly quickly. Obviously shows Poch has lot more about it but I dont moan about all the factors if you couldn't sort them out.
wild-saint Posted Thursday at 08:55 Posted Thursday at 08:55 He also authorised (according to Joe Tessem) the sale of Dom Ballard to a League 1 club without givign the guy fresh from a long injury a chance to show his value. That worked out well just not for him/ us.
AlexLaw76 Posted Thursday at 09:11 Posted Thursday at 09:11 Such a poor manager who was entirely out of his depth with us.

I.e., be's both tough / ruthless, and sensitive / considered to squad morale and how to manage the various players. As I said in the pre season predictions thread - he's going to Belgium the fuck out of the championship. Still think we will go up top two - provided the squad looks good end of the month. My favourite Will Still PoV on Saintsweb. Don't worry, we have all been there is said mental things. Look back through this thread, many noticed he was going to be shite pretty early-on (end Aug), and it spiralled from there. Edited Thursday at 09:16 by AlexLaw76 4

Haha, I was waiting for that one to get dug up... clearly my blind early season optimism was not enough to make Still into a ginger Belgian legend of the south coast, was worth a shot though🤣😄. And in fairness, he did Belgium the fuck out of the championship... 😆. I did also say he was a risky/bold appointment, and that the job of turning around our form and dressing room might be too much for him - which (sadly) proved to be the case. 1 1
IFHP Posted yesterday at 10:34 Posted yesterday at 10:34 I see Watford have sacked his useless brother too. 1

Had a better record than Will but not great for the family brand. Watford is a gig you do if you’re out of work and fancy a 6 month pay off within 3 months of starting. 1

beatlesaint Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I thought some of his excuses on that podcast were questionable - the squad was too big, Downes had health issues, Stewart got injured (who's fault was that Will?), I should have used Stephens differently - didnt explain how though. He had one game where yes he was desperately unlucky and that was home to Swansea where they were battered and some of the misses were unbelievable. But counter that by the lucky last minute injury time win home to Wrexham for arguments sake. Then all this i wanted to press but you cant play vertically in the Championship blah blah blah. I really wanted him to work out and brig the stability and exciting football after Russ Snore but he just wasn't up to it unfortunately. 3

I think it’s a bit harsh to pull one post out of context when we could pull hundreds of posts from you, me, everyone else about various things. 1

The fan advisory board was told definitively that he wasn’t being considered. You can’t be telling me when we sacked Will Still you were angling for Tonda Eckhart? 😂 He wasn’t wanted to by 99% of the fanbase based on previous SR appointments. But he has worked absolute wonders, clearly has the board, fan and players backing. What he’s done in five-six months is excellent.

I don’t remember anyone complaining about him being interim manager. And his record during that time was incredible, win after win and night and day compared to Still. So when he was appointed permanently most considered that to be reasonable, even if some had doubts about his lack of experience. He had that bad patch before the January window when some turned on him. 1

No, not directly.... most of us "slagged off" Sport Republic for trying something that had already failed several times before, i.e. appointing and/or retaining a manager with no experience in the league we were in. This one just happened to work out well, but it was entirely reasonable and logical to be sceptical about trying the same 'inexperienced' approach yet again... Edited 27 minutes ago by trousers 2

Given they’d already appointed Nathan Jones, Ruben Selles, and Will Still, all within 3 years, the scepticism was quite reasonable. 1

Indeed. And persevered with a manager for far too long, who was quite clearly out of his depth in the Premier League... Edited 26 minutes ago by trousers
