When was the last time we bought a keeper that was a number 1 (outside Ramsdale that doesn’t count as he said as hardly here)

Ramsdale was a number 2, so that is why he doesn’t count.

It also kind of blows your complaint about not buying a number 1 out of the water. Best keeper we’ve had for years, and god forbid, he wasn’t playing for his current side when bought.

Yep and despite not knowing anything about him what so ever I'm sure he can't possibly be worse than Bazunu has been this season.

He can't be too bad if Bayern signed him, I know he was only ever back up but they obviously saw something in him.

At least it seems like the club have addressed the issue, temporarily at least. Now go and get a striker.

It gives them time to avoid boxing themselves in stupidly as they have done in the last summers eg McCarthy’s nonsense extension and George Long and Ramsdale loans. McCarthy out of contract, Bazunu one year left and let him go on a nominal. With the City pedigree there will be another Rasmus-type who might take a punt. The loan fee cushions some of the hit on Ramsdale - promoted team £15m.

If Peretz is genuinely decent, then he could be #1 if Bayern don’t want too much, if he’s ok then bring in #1 competition like this (he is quite good) https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/derby-county-struck-gold-with-jacob-zetterstrom-wolves-brentford-wanted-him/ and if he’s crap he returns to Bayern/they want daft money.

This says he plays “a bit like” Iker Casillas.

Reckon “a bit” is doing some heavy lifting.

Not long after a very young Casillas was put in to replace a solid enough older 'keeper, I remember him racing out needlessly, not getting the ball and Madrid conceded. He was briefly dropped.

Hopefully, that's not the snapshot of Casillas they're referring to. 🙂

So he joined Hamburg for game time but didn't get it so he wants to leave.

On that basis, he's not coming to us as backup is he. He'll only be joining if he's been given guarantees of starting.

Difficult to know exactly how good he is, but he would have to be spectacularly bad to be worse than Bazunu.

So that will be 5 GKs on the books with one out on loan. Will we send Long back to Norwich? Loan out Baz perhaps? Will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Not being funny but what sort of a club would throw a keeper in with a guaranteed  first team spot as first choice that has no experience at that level

oh wait……..

Yeah will be interesting to see what happens with our existing GKs, not least because Bazunu has 18mths left on his deal but replacing him at this stage surely puts a fork in him at Saints. I would imagine best for everyone if he moves on loan to keep playing and perhaps we could get a small fee for him in the summer?

Assuming Baz does go then we need Long anyway to do what he was signed for and be a training aid so imagine he stays in that role as Norwich won't want him back either and he surely knew his role here when he signed.

On Peretz, in this position was always going to be a loan and that pretty much dictates that it will be someone who isn't playing regularly.

I've never seen him but he did well at a young age for a big club in Israel and enough for Bayern to sign him so obviously has something about him. Our team know the German market best so would have to think they have heard good things and feel he can come in and make an impact immediately.

He's played fewer than 10 first class club games since August 2023 (the beginning of our Russell Martin season).

So he might take some time to get up to speed with the Championship.

Why don’t we get the keeper from Sunderland?  We actually know that he is decent.

That would be too left-field for the laptop wankers at the club.

No way of knowing we didn’t enquire. I would prefer Patterson too but at least we are trying to improve a clear weakness in the squad.

"In general, for players coming in, we don't need to do much because the squad is strong, the squad is good."

that's a no to any transfer window activity. Sound like the goalie is just widow shopping.

One report said Sunderland were looking to sell rather than loan.

Looks like the keeper is as good as done and imagine we'll probably only sign a striker if we can loan Downs out.

I don’t have a lot of faith in this keeper.

If he wasn’t deemed good enough for Hamburg then that bodes well straight away.

Still, yes-man Tonda is there to do exactly what he is told like the good old dog that he is.

Fair comment.  It’s a position that would be virtually impossible not to improve.

For balance, the Hamburg #1 has played over 150 games for them and has seemingly been very good this season so not easy to remove him as a loan player.

The other option was seemingly Patterson who has also not been deemed good enough by a top flight team - you won't find many starting keepers being loaned out in a Jan window.

Lack of minutes is the concern rather than not becoming no1 at Hamburg - lets see what he has to offer before making sweeping judgements.

Hamburg are in higher quality league than we are

I’ve got this vision now of an older woman clad in black dictating the transfer activity.

The Scottish do have a good track record in management

Yeah agreed. I think it’s a shame for Baz but it’s just not working. On Total Saints Glen made the point he would take almost any other championship keeper over ours and it’s hard to disagree. Hopefully Peretz can command the box reasonably well.
