Demarai Gray and Jay Stansfield are certain to score.

Demarai Gray is a left winger so should be on the opposite side to Manning because otherwise he'll be getting in those crosses all day long to Stansfield.

If Scienza is fit and confident that Tonda has got them practising ways of getting through a rapid high press, I'm expecting another goalfest. 4-2 Saints win.

Let's hope Saints play in Scienza plus mode and not Russell Martin plus.

These are our football options, one is high attack the other high risk.

I don’t really get the big issue with Manning this season.

He is playing as a wing back, not a full back. Apart from us getting countered quickly there shouldn’t be many situations where Manning is left isolated and either a mistake or him getting beaten directly leads to a chance or goal. If that happens either the left centre back has gone AWOL or one of the midfield 2 hasn’t dropped in.

Milwall’s first goal for example. Stephens is miles away marking fresh air around the penalty spot, by the time he realises he’s left Manning 2v1 it’s too late and he comes scrambling out but gets nowhere near it. If he’s out there covering where he should be they might not equalise and Manning doesn’t look like a headless chicken.

I wouldn’t want Manning in a back 4 still though.

I agree, but...

We are playing Manning, with all of his limitations, next to "AIR Stephens". Hence the problem that we should be able to manage, but it is still like playing with him in a back four, especially when we are defending crosses from the opposite side and Stephens is marking fresh air... again!

Stephens has his limitations too, agreed. But I’ve watched Manning countless times either jogging back after being caught upfield on a break and/or not close down his man and put a tackle in and/or turn his back on a shot. The fucker even ducked under a shot against Millwall for one of their goals! Then there’s the passing backwards to recycle the ball when he’s under the slightest bit of pressure.

Yes he has scored and I’ve tried to appreciate his contribution, but his primary job is being a defender and in that role he is a massive liability.

Quiz question...

At this morning's pre-match press conference did Adam Blackmore ask Eckert:

(A) Why he selected a player who patently can't be arsed and whose lack of commitment to close down a shot gave away a goal vs Millwall

Or

(B) Six questions about his footballing philosophy

Press your buttons and gamble away...

Really boring wasn’t it. Hard to be too critical after 4 wins from 5, but asking TE who and what let him down on Saturday might’ve been a good one.

Think this will be a score draw. We've had 4 wins and a defeat so a draw is expected especially as Brum are decent.

Is that how it works? Coventry must be about to lose/draw a lot of games

Keeping Joe Aribo away from the all-you-can-eat post-training buffet might be a good start. Even better not bringing him on in the first place.

Remember seeing him walking into the old Southampton nick at the civic centre with his solicitor. Seemed quite surreal at the time!

Well that solicitor must have been absolute quality, bearing in mind good old lovable Brucie got caught on film in a hidden camera sting accepting a big wedge of cash from an undercover journalist and still got off after pleading he was “just gathering evidence so he could hand it over to the police” 🤣

Welcome officially Tonda. I kind of called this a while ago - as soon as we won four on the trot, with the latter two being very good performances, it was clear that all the risk lie in not appointing him full-time. The contract length is almost certainly a financially led decision, but perhaps a little surprising. Today will be very revealing, not just regarding Eckhert, but also whether the team disruptors start to kick in again.

TBF once the full thing came out Alfie asked him that question. It's likely they checked beforehand with each other what was being asked.

Many of us called it as soon as Still got sacked,  to be honest. Was obvious he was the chosen one.

Interesting that it's only a one and a half year contract have SR finally realised their crazy long term contracts for rubbish have cost us millions!?? Most decent managers demand a three year minimum.... It's still a gamble especially announcing it after a loss!

One and a half years makes sense to me. It says if we don’t get promoted this season he’s not getting binned. But if he fails to get us up after a full pre-season with his philosophy fully embedded in season two he probably will be.

In the last week or so, I think both Alfie House and Adam Blackmore have made a point of saying that we haven't had to pay out the full remaining contract of the managers we've sacked but that their contracts usually contain an agreement to pay ≈6 months wages.  Whether that's true or the club trying to cover their tracks, who knows.

Edit- can't find the original tweet but here is the Saints Extra tweet about it.  I think House might have said it on TSP too.

True ,why didn't they have this moment of clarity when appointing the other disasters I mean managers?

Ahh interesting, if true not sure many managers would be happy with only a six month pay out hence the calibre of manager we attracted!

Going to be interesting to see how we bounce back from the defeat & what Tonda can come with after 7 days on the training pitch.

Is there a stream of the game at all, I'm a bit tech phonic so have no idea where to look.

Imagine we’ll lose this, purely because everything Sport Republic touch turns to shit. Happy to be proved wrong

Great test for us today

Hoping to see 100% fight, faster/more direct football.

Millwall game was not a straight forward defeat imo - they outplayed us in every department with so much more strength & will to win, worried me greatly, so today will reveal more.

Our GK & defence is always my biggest worry every single game.
Romeu looked way off fitness when he came on last game & Robinson needs to work on improving his strength - far too lightweight

Going for a draw today

I think it's more a matter of would they rather stay 'employed' on gardening leave for the full remainder of their contract, meaning they couldn't get another job,  or compromise on a payout and move on to another club. Pretty standard for all clubs/managers,  not a saints thing particularly.

Let's be honest, we as fans deserve the best after all we've witnessed in our existence.

Sport Republic deserve fuck all.

Hopefully us fans get what we deserve today.

Any news about Leo?

He’s probably the best player in the Championship at the moment - beyond that I can’t speculate. Hopefully he’s not visited Flynn Downes’ house for a chicken curry 😬
