trousers Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Am I the only one who won't be too fussed if Middlesbrough win? If that happens, there's the possibility of Hull starting legal proceedings (according to reports) and even if they do get to the PL it'll be amusing watching them suffer week in week out (although there's a chance they could 'do a Sunderland' of course)... 1

That doesn't add up...If all these clubs knew it was going to happen, why didn't they 'do a Middlesbrough' and catch us (photographs etc) in the act? The irony is, they'd have actually done us a favour if a club had reported it earlier in the season... Edit: conspiracy theory... Maybe they all colluded to not report it until it happened in the playoffs, knowing the punishment would likely be greater...? Edited 8 hours ago by trousers 1

mikec Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago At least if Boro win we won't have to face them next year. An ideal scenario would be them having a miserable season in the PL to get relegated while we cruise to automatic promotion. I don't suppose it will happen though.

If the attitude within the club is that checking other teams out is no big deal this is hardly surprising. I’m more interested in what other teams do now. Are they all “at it” in some way or other? Also, if we were doing it when Will Still was here it just goes to show how ineffectual it was so begs the question, why do it? 1
bpsaint Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago (edited) No good being angry at Boro and their hierarchy, they’ve only protected their own interests as most other teams would have done. All of our anger should 100% be directed at the handful of people inside our club that were complicit in this, and an owner that hasn’t addressed the fanbase yet. Our club is a fucking shambles. Lord Duckhunter Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago If you take the emotion out of it, Hull will be an easier game next season. It’s a freak they’ve made the play offs, they won’t be anywhere near the top 6 next season. For the same reason I don’t want Spurs relegated, although West Ham will be tough, there’s no chance Spurs won’t take one of the top 2 next season. It’s going to be hard enough to get promoted starting behind everyone else, so we need the weakest league possible 2

I’m meeting family in France next week & there will be a coach from a league one club there (we’re related through marriage). I’ll ask him, but never get much out of him, and I pretty much stopped asking after he told me I was “too harsh” on Baz after his first premier league spell. 1

If Gibbo had sent someone to check us out in the same circumstances I wouldn’t have given a toss. As Eckert said, the game is all about what happens between 22 players on the pitch when it comes down to it. Middlesbrough had enough chances to go through comfortably but blew it. Again, if the situations were reversed I would be blaming us for our own ineptitude, not screaming for a bye to the final because of some half baked attempt at “spying.” As said earlier, it is all a bit hollow for Middlesbrough today. They haven’t made the final through merit, they are there through a courtroom. Hardly a great sporting achievement! Edited 7 hours ago by sadoldgit 3

I don't disagree overly. Boro getting promoted opens up the EFL to more potential legal challenges. Next year in the prem will be brutal to survive in. Spurs won't be the mess they are again under de zerbi, forest won't have a European distraction and are likely to make some mega money on players like MGW and Anderson - and those 2 players show their recruitment is solid. Palace maybe will struggle? But then equally, they've had mateta out half the season, guehi left them in Jan, they've been distracted by Europe, and glasner has already announced he's checked out... The league was a mere distraction for them. Promotion could really be a mixed blessing this season. But we do absolutely have to get promoted next year. Could this be a bit like Leeds getting beaten by us, having a great year in the champ, and then getting promoted and staying up? 1

I do not really care who goes up, but one thing is for sure it will set them up to be a yo-yo club if not more. That is what it is these days, go up and grab the cash. I do not want this for Boro, even if they are getting smashed every week, the club will not care and neither will Mr Gibson as his bank account will look much better. But I know the football gods do not work like this so expect them to win today.
