I think it'll be wrapped up in the next couple of days. He'll be on the plane out to Germany IMO. If it means we can spend money in other areas of the squad, it's a no brainer. Always going to be a question mark over his fitness, but I really liked him and Larin alternating at the backend of last season.

Im VERY concerned, we missed out on Lankshear, we missed out on Dan Neil, Stewart couldn't wait to leave now we're begging him to come back. Our only new signing is a midtable championship striker, im VERY, VERY concerned. Going to be a long season and the management seem happy to sit back as Rome burns.

But Craig David did, He spoke to him on Monday, then again on tuesday, and wednesday.....

I'm not sure what wages Archer was signed on, and I'd presume there was a relegation clause written into his contract, but even so I would think he is being paid too much to be a third choice, sit on the bench option. I don't think we'll put up too much of a fight if he wants to leave.

How do you know Lankshear would be good enough to start for us if we get promoted? If anything, Stewart has shown himself potentially capable of stepping up if he can stay fit.

If we actually got promoted and he was brilliant this year we could just sign him anyway.

I'd be happy if Saints bring Ross Stewart back- but even if they do I fully expect them to sign another younger striker - just not at £14M.

Don't forget we still have Oyekunle, Brereton-Diza, Damian Downs and Archer on the books as well.

But I fully expect Archer and BBD to leave permanently and Downs to go on loan to the Bundesliga 2 or the US at the very least and a younger striker signed with Oyekunle being given game time as well.

I don’t and I didn’t mention Lankshear. I was talking about whether a replacement for Stewart should be Stewart or someone who possibly would be a better option longer term.

I thought the whole thing of Stewart leaving was that he had a very high salary for someone who was only available half the season and can't complete 90mins, and that ditching him, and potentially selling Archer would allow us to buy a star fit starting striker (in addition to Larin). I like Ross as a player and a person, but there'll always be a big question mark as to whether he's fit enough.

The other way to think is that we really need Downs to come good - maybe with someone like Larin around helping him, he might have a chance if he's kept around?!

I'm assuming Brereton-Diaz is off and that Oyekunle and Dipepa aren't really ready for regular first team football.

Both only 19 years old, IIRC. Akachukwu about to turn 20. So, a bit of an ask for either of them to be a reliable option up top even off the bench occasionally. I haven’t seen much of either but Akachukwu seems to be described as an attacking midfielder rather than a striker in most outlets I’ve looked at.
 

With Dobbin signed and supposedly a decent central striker, chances are going to be hard to come by if we secure a Stewart / Lankshear figure. Tonda will have a good idea of them though so time will tell.

To think that Saints bought this person as our main 'striker' last year is really really irritating. Every time he stepped on the pitch, anyone could tell he is clueless, useless and a waste of space. And stop wasting a place in this season's friendlies. He is not getting any better.

As for BBD. Again, get rid of him. I'd bring Ross back. He's got good awareness, has a reasonable shot and even the way he bundled that goal in against Boro in the play offs shows he has the height and presence to be a nuisance in the penalty area. With Dobbin secured, our front men look reasonable.

I hope its for reduced wages than he was on given he and his team utilised the fact we were eliminated from the play off final meant the saints option to extend him for another year had "lapsed" as we had to do it before season was and we only found out our season was over a week after it was so they could go and flaunt their arse at other teams for better pay.
