ally_uk Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago (edited) If Benficia come in £25 million with addons I reckon THB is gone. Which in all honesty is shit with him potentially going and Charles leaving. Who knows what will happen, maybe towards the end of the window we will go in for a few Premier league players on loan who are surplus to requirements to give us some additional experience. But in all honestly we need: Charles Replacment THB Replacement Stewart Replacement, I'm not convinced the lad on load from Man City is it. We need someone we can directly rotate with Larin who has similar attributes. I wouldn't give a shit about losing the following: Edoize, Baz, Ramsdale, Bereton, Archer, Larios, Sugawara. I'd also like to see: Romeo, Whitmsrsh, given chances And also what about? Sufianu Sillah Dibaga, he had a good debut appearance last season looked bright. Edited 6 hours ago by ally_uk

Arjen Robben Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I think the losing THB as a dressing room leader is a very good point. lets not forget we've also lost Romeu who by all accounts was here for that role since last season. 3

goodymatt Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago It does seem like Benfica are being linked to a few CBs at the €20m price point: Tosin, THB, Ryan Flamingo and Tiago Gabriel. Not sure if Marco Silva wants two new CBs or if our high valuation of THB might lead to them going for one of the others?
2Morrow Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago https://x.com/JacobsBen/status/2088576185483616517?s=20 setting our stall out at 30m plus sell on. Seems reasonable, if disappointing.

CSA96 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Eckert (and Spors) have spoken a lot about the importance of physicality (and height) in the spine of the team. Ronnie Edwards is under 6ft so I’m not surprised he wasn’t compatible for what they wanted. Ahmedhodzic has a reputation for being great on the ball and being able to step into midfield and spot a good pass, so that bodes well if the reporting today is accurate 4

More so the Alfie House (outside of Southampton), probably by some distance. There is obviously interest/bids for THB. I guess it just depends on how much high clubs/Benfica would go. sfc4prem Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago No one is paying what we want for THB, surely. I see him as the type to stay professional after bids are rejected. I also don't see him as the Lallana "My head's already in [insert club here]" agitator type. I'd put money on him staying. 1

Pilchards Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) Actually bumped into a Saints employee and I will 100% not say where or what role they have at the club. Our top four players want to go as they want to better themselves elsewhere. The club will only sell them if the right offers come on. One has gone already while it’s obvious THB is getting the attention at the moment. Expect Leo and Jander to be off next but I personally can’t see them entertaining any offers from anyone right now unless it blows the bloody door down. I suppose when you have a famous father in law who’s played the game at the very top level asking you why are you still playing for little Southampton again this season then it makes sense he wants moving on. Signed on a 4yr deal for a fee of £20m, so his balance is £10m as of the start of this season. If we got offered £30m (which seemingly is the sort of number we're looking for) then it's +£20m in the accounts (although you'd have a cut going to MCFC) 1

All the Premier League teams seem to have sorted the position now as well so I can't see anything other than a loan abroad at a late hour. Marco Silva has rocked up at Benfica and already upset some of the players, including their highly-rated Ukrainian National Team keeper. If he leaves on a loan-with-obligation as he's apparently requested they'll need someone new, and if they're talking to us about one player maybe we should bring up another. (They also don't have Champions League this season, something I've seen others use in arguments for why they might be able to sign THB).

Let's not forget Adam Armstrong going in January which was also about 7 I believe. Sugawara, bbd and Edozie we should get at least 10 million for if we can agree sales and not loans. Archer and Bazunu too we should get at least 15-20 for them all. I don’t know if you noticed but we have bought three players already in Larin, Perez and Dobbin? So if you need to make up £70 million and you are spending fees on bringing players in, where do you imagine that comes from? Let’s assume you are right that we could take in £20 million for Archer, Baz, BBD, Edozie and Sugawara. That is £50 million including Charles, plus £10 million for Fernandes. Then take off the fees we have spent on bringing three in. Where do you find the gap? I go home and away and don’t want to see our best players leave, but it is importantly to be able to count! That's a ridiculous way to look at it, we obviously have some parachute payments left and we do bring in some income as well. Like I said, I see no evidence at all that we can spend nothing this year and have to find 70 million. You've also failed to include the 7 million for Armstrong that almost lays the transfer fees of the first two. Edited 2 hours ago by hypochondriac 2

If we sell THB, Jander and Scienza before the end of the window then we aren’t really serious about getting promoted any time soon. It’s not really the sales that annoy me, we are a championship club with players other clubs want and so we are always going to be in a seller position if other clubs meet our valuation. BUT, this season we are starting on a points deduction and face a very real possibility of our manager being banned during the international break. I also wonder if we are struggling to convince certain players to sign given the Tonda uncertainty. 1

I did expect all of them to go in the immediate aftermath of spygate but losing them now at such a late stage would really be the worst of all worlds. I like the players we’ve brought in, although I think we should have pushed the boat out for Lankshear. It seems finances are a bit tight, hence selling Charles and talk of needing to sell others, which does beg the question why we spent almost £10m on Dobbin. Not because he isn’t a good player, just that we do have the ability to cover Azaz by moving the players we have got around. Seems an odd allocation of resources.

At least as good or better was the quote. They'd have to hit consecutive home runs at this point in order to effectively replace those four players now. Not impossible but incredibly difficult.
