It's not like we haven't seen this coming. We just don't seem to be in a position to be proactive with too big a squad

We should be able to replace Charles and THB as we knew they would be sold. I know we will replace them before the end of August but that doesn't help us today does it. If we don't win today you can argue that the club are at least partly responsible for selling the players without replacements yet.

Sigh. Year after year it seems that people suffer from amnesia and forget that this happens EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

If, we could control when we sold players (even ones we didn't want to lose) we would. This has a direct impact on players we can bring in.

No clubs have no control over that. It's the way the window works and it's not going to change. Other clubs will lose players they don't want to close to the window. Do you think 'Boro wanted to lose Azaz as late as they did, for example?

We also don't see the majority of the planning the club does. We would have planned for this scenario and started previous seasons in Championship with players like JWP, Tella, Dibling and Fernandes getting minutes before being sold. We see so little of this and have to rely on rumours and bullshit, but the club are never going to show their hand - it would be terrible business strategy to do so. We also don't know the exact financial pressures, again for good reason.

If THB doesn't play today then the timing is poor, but again out of our control when a team like Villa put a serious bid in. That's what we have a squad for. I'm confident we'll get someone in to replace him, whether he's as good will be down to the quality of the recruitment.

Chances of Mings wanting to return to a club that turfed him out, mainly on account of being “too small”?

Slim.

Short odds?

Good, I don’t rate him.

Would complete the circle for Mings who was released by Saints as a kid before going to Chippenham i think

He's a Chippenham lad, but I think there was bad blood when he left Saints, his Dad Adie got the boot as well - think it was down to Lowe IIRC. Don't think Tyrone will be heading to Saints any time soon. It was mooted a few years back when he was at Ipswich.

THB has refused to play today.

If that's true, then it's a real shitty move from him.

Exactly! He is a Southampton player until he isn’t. Very unprofessional.

He is not in the squad

Doesn’t mean he has refused to play tho in all likelihood that is the case. Just wanted to know how the poster knew before the team was announced.

Dom Ballard scores his first goal, probably the winner, for Bristol City. It’s a backheel volley with echoes of Guimares goal for Newcastle at SMS. Tolaj has also looked very handy. Birmingham make it 2-2 straight away from a corner - but no, seems to be an offside. Oh, what a surprise, it’s a referee blooper.

The Villa fans for one on their forum! They can't believe they're signing a Championship centre back to play in the Champions League. Despite the fact he played and scored for England and was one of our better players in our Prem relegation season. He may not be the same level but he's only 24.

The fact for us is that he is our best CB and will be tough to replace but I wouldn't begrudge him a move to Villa and I suspect it'll be 25 million up front with extras up to 30 and a sell on clause. We can do business with that but it still blows that it'll come at this time of the window. I just hope it doesn't cause any unrest amongst others that might think their futures are above us.

Its all about selling high and buying bargains for most teams including Saints. No different than an antique dealers.

Adam webster ?

Actually not a bad suggestion. Would want him and another though. I think he’s a better option than Wood or Stephens next to a new THB replacement.

Have a red and blue team transfer Bargain Hunt competition.

Give the blue team the Ankerson brothers and we can call it Bargain Cunt.

Even Kevin Webster would have better than Stephens last week, if he was real, and could have shut the garage down for a day in Weatherfield.

Perhaps his wife’s sister in law was cutting THB’s hair this morning?

Do we know how much we're getting for him at least? Really hope it’s towards £30M total (i.e., with add ons).

20m plus add ins, far to cheap for a player who’s importance to us is massive
