I think Larin deserves credit for the second goal as well, before he came on that clearance goes out for a throw to them. He not only kept it in but laid it off.

Archer was the player who kept the ball in with a header then Larin gave it to Azaz.

Thought Archer was decent and is a player we should keep as he is a useful asset and we won't get much for him. Better to keep him than sell him cheaply.

guys larin is not getting enough love and I'm disappointed.

All of the strikers we have had over the last 5 yrs and he legit it the only one dying to get into that 6yrd box, scooping up these crosses and you all take it for granted.

I see him scoring 20 this year.

He is from me, one of my favourite Saints players for years and first proper focal point since Pelle. Che did a decent stint as second striker but not sure I’d go quite as far as calling him a focal point in the sane way.

Liked him soon as I saw him. He's a bit of everything, tap in merchant, runs and shoots, can hold the ball up. He's still not old for a footballer too these days and you can tell he has bags of experience. The WC highlighted he can do it on the big stage too. 

Another striker in a similar vein and we will cook this season.

Caught the second half on a small screen link with no commentary - looked like we were totally dominating.

Any other Canadian Saints fans got a solution for watching this season? DAZN only airs selected matches live (what a stupid format - don't they realise we follow our team and want to watch all their games not just the six or seven they choose to televise?) - and Saints Player is also bloody useless because it just is and they don't have the rights to air the DAZN games in Canada...so if you want to watch all games you have to pay for both DAZN and Saints Player - more than to watch Premier League - ridiculous.

Anyone at the club interested? I'm thinking not.

It’s a shame as he has shown flashes of being a really good player. But his finishing and final ball lets him down every time.

He made every part of football look laboured and awkward including walking off to be substituted. About as mobile as a kitchen cabinet and with a worse first touch.

His highlights were the time he dropped off into midfield in space and got a decent ball, and his first touch was so bad the ball bounced so far it went to their full back I think, and also the mostly free header he had from an excellent cross where he just got it all wrong and it floated harmlessly over the crossbar when he should have hit the target at least.

TBH the whole front half of the team looked a bit out of sorts, I'd say because we were missing Jander/Charles, Azaz and Larin straight through the spine of it. Matsuki didn't really impose himself in a deeper role and the final balls from Scienza and Fellows were often wayward.

BBD certainly didn't force his name onto the team sheet for Watford but I can't really blame him too much either. It's not like the rest of the team had them on toast.

You can be as forgiving as you want but the bloke was absolutely hopeless yet again.

well the win was the most important thing. Tonda probably learned what worked and didnt work after that first half.
 

but again.. the win. It needs to be a habit going into League play,

we need to climb out of the point hole relatively quickly or i feel like discouragement will set in early.

Fair enough view but as an experienced Chilean international he should be able to do the basics. His touch is worse than Carlton Palmer, he can control it further than I can kick it, his header was so off balance it was a pathetic attempt. His miskick in front of goal summed him up ….just awful.

Im not a fan.

At the other end the ‘triple’ save from Peretz with the last one by putting his head in where it hurts to put their forward off. Great to have two proper players top and bottom of our spine.

Fellows and Matsuki are fine for that position for the Championship but it's definitely one of those positions that could be improved upon if we went up. Fellows has played 160 League games and only scored 8 goals. Both are 23, they can both get better potentially. 

Right back similarly, decent for the Championship but I'd want better in the Prem. But lets get there first.

He's not a horrendous footballer and he was no worse than three or four other players. He lost his confidence and form completely playing two campaigns above his level in two of the worst teams the PL has ever seen. Like Dobbin he was effectively making his competitive debut in this team and the former was hardly any better.

Routine professional performance that felt very much like a preseason game played in 25c+ heat.

we didn’t create as much as I’d like but I think the heat plays its part, maybe a few players hold their runs or don’t make a run they would do when it’s 10-15c and they’re not tempering their performance to the conditions.

controlled the tempo and possession for extremely long periods, of the 20-25% possession they must have had in the second half only a fraction of that was in our half.

We had extra gears, you could tell, there’s half a yard or a yard still to come in some players fitness levels.

Bragg a massive positive, class, energy, really excited about him.

Larin will get 20 goals this season, the majority of them being in the right place at the right time.

all in all a professional win and performance with not a great deal to be excited or disappointed about

I think a lot is down to how a player is used and confidence. Everything said now about BBD sounds very familiar to what we we're saying at Feyenoord about Larin: terrible first touch, immobile, awfull finisher. And look how Cyle is reborne at Saints! Somehow our system just clicks with his attributes and that gives him confidence. He now looks like a gift from heaven

Yes, Archer had a really good cameo today. There was one bit where he did a great tackle on the edge of our penalty area, laid it off and before you knew it he was down the other end to receive a pass and a shot on their goal. 

Matsuki is better on the wing. He loses the ball sometimes and it's much better to do it there than in central midfield. Leo looked like his shirt didn't fit (evidently enjoyed the summer break) and Dobbin's passing was off centre today, but that was his debut. Once again, Downes oozed class. Bree and Manning also looked in control as did Jack and THB in the second half.

Shea Charles came over at the end of the game to applaud and take the applause from the fans....so he's definitely off.
