Bids turned down MS & MS and Papa update

Pardew not met Papa yet and knows he speaks little English but is looking at playing him tomorrow.

Turned down bids for Morgan and Marek

Quite refreshing that we can actually turn bids down now, ( for whatever reason ) ... don't you think ???? ......

In the past, Lowe would have been rushing round to the Buying Club with a tin to put the cash in .........:D

true - but seems in past whenever we hear rumours of clubs interested or players wanting away, they have gone.

+1

i remember our half arsed attempts at rejecting Kenwyne's bids, only to accept an offer ''as it was too good to turn down'' a week or so later.

So whos idea was it to get Papa? If Pards aint met him why is he looking to play him? Surly it cant be another Ali Dia moment? Im hoping the info you have got Nick is more like chinese whispers and in reality pards knows all about Papa and was the man behind getting him here.

think we also turned one down earlier for Lallana.

Never before have we turned down 3 bids - except to drive price up

This is excellent news and a true sign of intent. The tail is no longer wagging the dog.

If you want to leave fine, but on our terms and if they are not met, you're staying put.

Thanks ML and AP

To be fair though £6 million AND Stern John was an offer too good to turn down.

i still believe he was worth more than that TBH.

If you look at Chopra...he went for £5m, but IMO Jones was twice the player in terms of natrual atributes and ability to improve - and he also had the potential to play in the prem(which he has proven)

I assume Pardew gave the nod on Waigo joining Saints before he signed rather than it being presented to him as a 'fait acomplis'?

Who in the club would present pardew with a fait accompli? I thought we had purged it of all meglomaniacs? Certainly Cortese seems to be intelligent and humble enough to defer to experts on footballing matters - hence the DoF idea. To the extent that we don't have a DoF (and even then signings would probably be a cooperative exercise - only in the basketcase world of Lowe isn't it), can't believe AP wasn't involved.

most managers would not have seen several of their signings, thats why they employ scout and invest in dvd players.

I would expect a manager to meet the player - however, guess the pressure of transfer deadline and fact it was a loan meant it didn't happen in this singing

Of the thousand and one sticks you could hit Lowe with it's stupid to accuse him of not playing hardball when selling players and not getting decent prices for them.

£8m for Dean Richards!

Lowe wanted a DOF too. It was his choice to fill the position that was the problem. lol

What's this got to do with Lowe ffs? Did we never buy players under Lowe as well as sell? You need to get a life SaintRichmond as you are seriously obsessed, move on like we have.

I'd have to disagree. Nobody spends more than that on CCC player.

Nugent - £7m, Andy Johnson - £7m, Chopra - £5m

Players like Obafemi Martins, Peter Crouch and Jermaine Defoe have gone for £10m, if you had that kind of cash to spend, why would you go for an unproven CCC player.

Illuminating interview with Pards on Saints Player - took a shine to a nonleague player but didn't work out; the major disappointment was that we didn't offload any players - in particular, some of the younger ones on loan and one or two senior ones. Interesting who Pards identified as the 'core' of the team which could go anywhere -Liverpool or Carlisle- and compete (Davis, Trottman, Jaidi, Perry, Lloyd, Hammond, Morgan, Saga, Papa, Lambert, Patterson)

Supposedly we have a personal connection at the mighty viola which helped seal the deal for Papa. Wonder who that might be. Indeed, the West Ham General Manager thought we had f**k all chance of getting him.

Interesting. Cheers.

Pardew continued: "Papa Waigo comes to us from Fiorentina and he's highly recommended. I spoke to Gianluca Nani, the General Manager at West Ham and he said that he would be very surprised if we pulled off the signing.

"We've managed to do it though, and now Papa has a platform here to really push on. He'll offer real pace and athleticism to our front line, and we're looking forward to seeing him today (Friday). If his work permit comes through he could be available for Saturday.

"Amongst us, we obviously have contacts at various clubs, and we've used that knowledge to assist us more than anything else so far. We have a personal connection at Fiorentina, which helped, so we're lucky to have him, but we'll only be lucky if he's a success."

Er, Kenwyne Jones was a snip at £6m and Stern John IMO.

Well yeah, but only because he's since proven capable of better at a higher level - at the time he was a good CCC striker who had just started to show his potential - I was always a big fan of his ("KEN~!!!!") and thought he could get a regular game at a BorInG 4 club at some point, but we did well from that deal based on what he'd actually achieved at the time.

I agree. For once we don't HAVE to sell.

OK ..we bear in mind that they are " not happy " and want to leave (if thats the case) but they stay put until we want to sell ..and at a market price.

No doubt a source Pards trusts has recommended him. And I don't think it's an Ali Dia moment judging by this (especially considering the opposition):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q60eH7rauWU

To be fair that goal shouldn't really impress anyone, I've seen parks players move the ball quicker than that and hit better finishes. AND he fell over whilst doing it... bad defending as much as anything.

Nice though it is that we're signing someone who has scored against Juve, it doesn't really mean much in isolation. Saganowski scored in the Champions League group stages against Villareal last season, after all.

If he starts running the show for fun and drags the rest of the side up to a Serie A level, then I'll start getting impressed.

Stupid dance/walk thing, but I can see the back-pat catching on...

Could be that we have Mr Cortese to thank for Papa, one of the deals he has previously been involved in at Banque Heritage could have involved Fiorentina or given that he's Italian, he may have some connection with Fio. Pardew may have spoken to Nani, to get a football perspective on the deal, before giving his approval.

To be fair to Lowe, he did turn down offers in his last Transfer window......................3 months before we went into admin.

Personally, I dont want people at the Club who dont want to be there. Hopefully, this means that Pards believes the two will contribute. Either that, or the offers were really poor and we working on offloading them on loan.
