Gobern on loan

Interesting that the MK Dons think he can do a job at this level. When moved inside against united he looked a genuine Charlton Palmer Mark II.

I'd be surprised if Gobern gets anywhere near the 'quality' of Carlton Palmer. He got alot of stick, but was a decent player for us and a good few teams at the top level and played for England (albeit under Taylor). If Gobern ever plays for England, I'll eat a jester's hat.

Yes, I don't know whether that was a compliment or an insult.

rangey, leggy whole hearted central midfielder. He looked to be a beter tackler than dribbler which makes me wonder why we play him out on the wing, but then again I've not seen him a great deal.

And me. Why send him out to a club in the same league? Up to the CCC or down to L2 yeah - but the same league?

maybe he is going to get more chances there to get a game which will ultimatly do him more good than sitting with us in the reserves. i doubt there are any CCC teams that will give him more opertunities than us and maybe its thought league 2 will do him more harm than good?

if he gets some run outs and shows improvments it will do his case the world of good to come back here and earn a place. if he cant cut it at this level with the dons then he will have no chance with us so will be shipped out i guess?

Strange one indeed if only for one month - presumably we're not playing 'em during this time. Can't be bothered to check their games, but perhaps MKDons are playing the teams at the bottom of the table and agent Gobern is there to score loads to effectively assist our struggle upwards?

We're at home to MK Dons on Sat 24th Oct, hopefully will be back with us by then, if not, would a loan agreement include a clause that he couldn't play against us?

P:ss taking about the whole Charlton thing aside i fully agree. I'm really hoping he goes on to be the fans favorite that i suspect he will...

Good move for me.

He's getting experience in the division we're in, and he's playing for a competitive team in this league.

He'll come back better for it IMO. - much more worthwhile that going to L2 on loan i think.

I'm not honestly so sure he'll be playing though, which is why I think it's a weird one.

they're playing some of the lower teams, Wycombe, Oldham & Brighton, but also some of the top teams, Leeds & Gillingham and also Walsall. Then they get to play the bottom team.

well...one could say that it makes our position look even more daft (rooted in the relegation zone) when a favoured team like MK Dons takes a player from saints who is not even on the bench, on loan...

no doubt that will get over analysed and I get some sort of stick

Watch out - Scudamore's about. ;)

loan a player to someone in our league... helpful now he can gain other teams points just like Rasiak did last season for Watford...

And in doing so reduced the number of points acquired by others.

It's a double-edged sword.

Personally I think it's a good move for him. He is on the fringes here and has come off the bench 3 times out of the 4 he has been there this season. But we have a stronger squad after signing Hammond and with Mills and Holmes back he is a bit further down the pecking order.

At MKD he will join up with his brother and will (hopefully) gain valuable experience of playing in this league. It's a long season and when Hammond has to miss a couple of games (which will happen at some point) it could be down to a choice of Wotton, Gillett or Gobern to step up to the plate. If he makes a good impression at MKD it could push him into the frame upon his return.

Good luck Oscar, and come back a better (or at least more experienced) player.

I'm really angered by this decision... if he goes on loan, it should NEVER be to a club in the same league as your own. NEVER. Why?

1) It unsettles players. They go to a new club, like it, and kind of want to stay. A perfect example of this was Nathan Dyer, and it was proven by the fact that every time he went on loan, whether it be to Burnley, Sheff Utd or Swansea - he always played better there than he did at Saints.

2) It may improve a rivals team. If by some miracle Saints survive a relegation battle and even push for the play offs at the end of the season, what will we be thinking when we are beaten to 6th by an MK Dons side, who grabbed a point extra because of a moment of magic from their loanee earlier in the season.

3) Why can't he go to League Two? Its not as if he is too good for that league. And surely the clubs would want him. If he wants to build confidence, why doesn't he play in a slightly less competitive league?

I understand why he is going out on loan, and yes, it is important that he plays games. He shouldn't be joining MK Dons though - that is the mistake for me.

On radio - Oscar Gobern gone on loan to MK Dons to join big brother Lewis

Good luck to him

Great idea. Oscar is a good prospect and he needs matches every week.

The " loan-out " principle is not a back door way of getting rid of someone, but in giving experience to someone who might not normally get a game with our first side.

Hmm, i just hope that this is not a loan for an unsettled player who wants to move else where.

I rate the lad, think he is a very good prospect. we shall see.

It could be a good loan - Comes back stronger, more confident, forces his way into our first 11.

It could be bad - Ince realises his pedigree, turns his head, he wants to stay with his brother etc etc

I'm very surprised no one has gone for the 'Foxtrot Oscar' play-on-words banter laden retort yet

If we'd loaned him to Leicester, I'd be all over it.

Can't see much harm in this, he's clearly the new Patrick Vieira and the sooner he gets around to doing so for us the better.

I'm only half joking btw. I reckon we'll end up flogging him for about £5m to a Prem Club while we're in the Championship and all getting furious about it, but as far as specific predictions go, this one's from quite a range.

Anyone want to sticky it for a few years ? ;)

some of those points are fair but how about thinking along these lines: Gobern goes out on loan, gets the valuable experience he needs at this level and then when he comes back he breaks into the side, and because of the time away he has improved just enough to make that little bit of difference that subsequently earns us an extra point to take us into 6th position.

I like your way of thinking. I thought Palmer-esque, but you've gone one step further and gone for Viera. Have we signed him on a five year deal yet. If we believe he will cut it we need to get him signed up long term.

Also he brings back some great inside knowledge of MK - useful for when we play them in the play-offs at the end of the season!

On recent lack of performance Gobern isn't good enough for our first team. I don't know what he's good at. Doesn't seem to be up for it and doesn't show any speed. Very much like Thomson.

If he can't get into our team, why would he get into MKDon's side who are up towards the top of the table?

This is one of the strangest loans I've ever seen.
