disconnect Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 15/16 players now out, and only 1 in?! Molyneux nowhere near good enough, but we need some players in, it's beginning to get a bit worrying that a few injuries and we'll be really short! The Kraken Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 Very happy to see all of the dead wood being trimmed; our squad was massively bloated to begin with, and consisted of many players that would never have a chance of first team football. Given that he was now fourth or fifth choice at LB this makes perfect sense. Still would like to see another 4 or 5 players arrive in the next few days and weeks but have full faith in the club that they'll provide AP with the players he wants. Of course we won't hear about it until it happens, but I actually quite like that.
SO16_Saint Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 As the front of the sun says today, "keep calm and carry on". We will be fine, more than fine. The right people are at the helm this summer. Why pay wages for June when they will just be on a beach somewhere anyway. I'm sure come July we will see some more signings coming out way. Saint_clark Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 Never good enough for us, glad we've cleared him out, but still wish him good luck. He could probably still have a good career in non-league.
the saint in winchester Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 Fair enough. 4th choice for LB, after Harding, Dickson and Mills, so reasonable he should be given the chance to move his career forward elsewhere. I would expect others will be released on terms. Fully confident AP/NC know the positions we need to strengthen and will have identified targets to pursue. I gotta feeling ... woo hoo. Molyneux nowhere near good enough, but we need some players in, it's beginning to get a bit worrying that a few injuries and we'll be really short! Because the obvious choice if Dickson gets injured is molyneux, who cant get into the Port Vale side, when on loan there, think that is a case of enough said. SuperSAINT Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 Lee Molyneux was a shocking signing. Pretty much summed the whole Dutch era, bless them. Wonder what's going to happen to Holmes now? VectisSaint Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 Because the obvious choice if Dickson gets injured is molyneux, who cant get into the Port Vale side, when on loan there, think that is a case of enough said. The obvious choice if Dickson gets injured was and is Mills (assuming Harding is at RB), the next choice would be Seaborne. We had 5 LBs before today, at least now we only have 4. Very unlikely there will be much incoming before 1 July. I'm sure AP has some targets, but he will start pre-season with whats left of the squad and introduce others as and when needed, up until the end of August. With the exception of Antonio and Papa we still have the team that was as good as anyone in the league at the end of last season, but of course we need to plug some gaps in the squad. Matthew Le God Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 assuming Harding is at RB No chance. Why would Pardew weaken the side playing someone out of position when he has the money to sign a proper right back? Harding wasn't as great at right back as everyone makes out. At very least one right back will be signed this summer (possibly two).

Haha, well I wasnt specifically talking about Molyneux and his position as like I said he was no where near good enough and I know he wouldnt play. I'm more concerned about the right side of the team, with no right backs (Harding is pretty one footed!), and two of our right wingers from last season not here anymore. I think the cull has been a bit too harsh on the right sided defenders, I think Semi could've been kept on for another season as back up. Good to see crap players being gotten rid of, but not good to see some massive holes in the current squad. I'm sure there'll be signings but would've liked a few replacements in ready! Saint J 77 Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 Absolutely the right decision. Let's see Pullis out too, and then some coming the opposite direction. I wonder why they didn't release Pulis on the same day, if his contract of employment has been ended by mutual agreement. I mean surely they should cut the same deal with Pulis? I mean surely they should cut the same deal with Pulis? Unless of course Pardew rates him? He doesn't. Pulis is 25 and has been no where near a Pardew matchday squad all season. Maybe Pulis/his agent are still in negotiations to mutually cancel the contract.

I mean surely they should cut the same deal with Pulis? Unless of course Pardew rates him? Could be that another club has been in contact with Molyneux and wanted to get sorted ASAP rathet than wait for contract to expire. Pulis is here until the 28th August which is the end of his 2 year deal....providing we don't take up that option of a third year having seen him play several times I am positive we won't!! corky morris Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 If you read the SkySports site & many others there are many managers talking about ongoing negotiations with free transfer signings. If these players are any good a number of clubs will be after them. It was Leicester today, Reading yesterday both a division above us. The player & his agent will take a look at all the potential offers, maybe get a couple of clubs competing then make a decision. We are probably(hopefully) in that position, awaiting news from targets. That said I believe AP has his sites set on a few players to buy & activity will be going on in the background. If these players are already signed to other clubs they will be under going pre-season with them. If it takes a little while longer to get the right players rather than any player - I would rather wait. A starting 11 of Davis, Harding, Fonte, Jaidi, Dickson, Lallana, Puncheon, Schnederlin, Hammond, Barnard & Connolly with Bart, Mills, Wotton, Connolly, Chamberlain, Holmes & Martin on the bench sounds good to me & thats without any more signings! I know we need depth, but we are starting from a very strong base. Goodbye LM & good luck.

With Pulis they might as well say, 'we know your contract if for another 2 months, but lets be honnest, just p**s off now and we can all get on with life.' Good that Molly is gone. More deadwood which was never going to play out the squad. Even with the 15 out and 1 player in, I actually think our squad is no weaker than it was last season. Out off all those players released, how many actually played last season? A handful of appearances for Thomas and Gillet. James was a stop gap for when more tallented players were unavailable. captainchris Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 Rose tinted glasses.......Papa and Antonio were our real get of jail free cards last year. They were flare players and without them we only have one real 'flare' player in AL and possibly JP on a good day. I am surprised we are leaving it so late to sign new players considering the whole of last season we were reminded of the late start AP had with his squad building......... Surely if you are well prepared you would have a very good idea by now who you want to bring in and get the thing settled. I know there maybe things going on behind the scenes but .............with just two weeks to go and a squad that currently will not be enough ? Saint Fan CaM Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 No surprise he's gone now with Dickson in. Mind you IMO he was nowhere near as poor as Pulis, yet he's still here - hopefully for not too much longer, but probably because he's got nowhere else to go and he's better 'employed' than not when in the transfer market. I suspect LM will find his level in a L2 team if he's lucky. In terms of new faces, I think that perhaps we'll start to see a little bit of movement soon now that the final clearout has happened. Slim and trim squad now though!

Saint Fan CaM Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 I'd still like to see the back of Pulis, Forceast, Holmes and Wotton. Agreed. However, I think Wotton will be kept until the CCC as a utility player and to be fair probably deserves the place. Holmes is a bit of an enigma - having played for Derby you would have thought he was more than capable in L1, but perhaps his injury completely stripped him of his pace? Based on some of last seasons performances from Puncheon, he's not too far off achieving JP's level IMO - he is capable of getting past his marker and putting in a good cross when he's on form. Get rid of all the deadwood A.S.A.P and lets get in some quality players who came get us back to where we belong, the Premier League! Roll on the 28th August when we can offload Pulis as well! There are is a rumour that Holmes could be part of a player + cash deal for Chris Lines. Wotton to Exeter is another rumour! Lets hope both rumours are true! Keep up the good work AP!
