Speaking as a person who was deeply involved in the justice system for many years. On the right side before anyone asks. I know somebody who used to be a left wing idealogical criminal defence solicitor working for 'victims of the system'. 10 years of that day to day changed him into working for the CPS wanting to "lock the scumbags up". Noodles34 Posted 10 December, 2010 Share Posted 10 December, 2010 the point being, that would be some on here that would indeed see him let off, even if they knew he was guilty, because he plays for Saints etc and could score some goals etc, so many on here would really mean 'good luck' on getting off, regardless of whether he is a mindless thug or not. I hope he gets off because he is innocent and i hope he scores us the goals to take us up (more chance of him than RL at the mo), but if he did do it, then he should be sentanced in the same way as everyone else is. Wonder if "I'm a footballer" was said to back up that the person wasnt drunk or wether that was supposed to mean they are above everyone else and should be let in... At least the report reveals that Barney wasnt the one resisting arrest on the floor. rallyboy Posted 10 December, 2010 Share Posted 10 December, 2010 One officer said it was “potentially one of the most serious incidents of public order” he had witnessed in the city on a weekend and had officers not responded quickly it would have become “unmanageable” Are these the same guys who released a few thousand Pompey fans into a car park and had to use the Thames Valley horses to break up trouble involving approx 4,000 people? Was that perhaps more dangerous than a pub scrap? If any officer is overawed by a couple of dozen drunks he or she will be petrified if any students ever decide to make a point about tuition fees in the city, they break windows and all kinds. BarnardGate sounded dangerous, but let's not big it up into 'the worst ever'...

Gascoigne avoided jail for that drink drive offence and is due in court for another one that he has pleaded no guilty, so it has to go through the normal process. Certainly not defending him, but don't let facts get in the way of a good story.
