Good luck Barnard

Unfortunately justice in this country is rarely served. Speaking as a person who was deeply involved in the justice system for many years. On the right side before anyone asks.

I know somebody who used to be a left wing idealogical criminal defence solicitor working for 'victims of the system'. 10 years of that day to day changed him into working for the CPS wanting to "lock the scumbags up".

I'm not sure being leftwing, idealogical and wanting to lock up criminals are mutually exclusive.

It's just what people say though isn't it? Good luck mate...

As we're on a forum I think there's a slight chance people may read into it a little bit more than if you just said it in passing!

People over-reacting? On here? Surely not.

the point being, that would be some on here that would indeed see him let off, even if they knew he was guilty, because he plays for Saints etc and could score some goals etc, so many on here would really mean 'good luck' on getting off, regardless of whether he is a mindless thug or not. I hope he gets off because he is innocent and i hope he scores us the goals to take us up (more chance of him than RL at the mo), but if he did do it, then he should be sentanced in the same way as everyone else is.

http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/8731453.Police_bid_to_shut_city_bar/

I know the people involved, I know people who have been question... I'd be surprised if barny wasnt charged

Interesting read. Wonder if "I'm a footballer" was said to back up that the person wasnt drunk or wether that was supposed to mean they are above everyone else and should be let in...

At least the report reveals that Barney wasnt the one resisting arrest on the floor. I thought for a minute it may have been him carried to the van... :-S

One officer said it was “potentially one of the most serious incidents of public order” he had witnessed in the city on a weekend and had officers not responded quickly it would have become “unmanageable”

Are these the same guys who released a few thousand Pompey fans into a car park and had to use the Thames Valley horses to break up trouble involving approx 4,000 people?

Was that perhaps more dangerous than a pub scrap?

If any officer is overawed by a couple of dozen drunks he or she will be petrified if any students ever decide to make a point about tuition fees in the city, they break windows and all kinds.

BarnardGate sounded dangerous, but let's not big it up into 'the worst ever'...

i have a reliable source who dealt with the incident in a capacity that lee did indeed hit somebody with a bottle. wasn't so much a bottling as punching with it in his hand. hence why he had to have plastic surgery to reform the inside of his hand. however, we've all done stupid things when drunk and i'm aware that he was goaded into the situation so i'm sure that these things will be taken into account

gascoinge some how managed to avoid jail for yet another drink driving offence.

had it been one of us we would have got sent down . but no Mr Gascoigne is employed by police as a police negotiator, probably offered the judge a top of the range fishing road and a gucci dressing gown

I agree with your sentiments......i am appalled how football stars, tv personalities or those generally in the limelight DO GET TREATED differently when they appear before a judge. The average guy in the street would have gone down for this, it sends an appalling message!

Another drink drive offence?

Gascoigne avoided jail for that drink drive offence and is due in court for another one that he has pleaded no guilty, so it has to go through the normal process.

Certainly not defending him, but don't let facts get in the way of a good story.

Interesting that Cortese seemed to be sympathetic towards LB (comments from the 'Dinner with NC' thread!).

I think he said that he is a quiet and very likeable guy and he was surprised that he was involved, a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time and was in no way any trouble at the club.

I agree we have all done stupid things but not many of us would deem to hit somebody with a bottle in our hand. Only idiots do that.

and many guilty people have escaped being sent down although totally guilty .....it works both ways!!!

I fully agree, but this was in response to posters saying that if Barney is innocent he has nothing to worry about. Just pointing out that innocent people HAVE been found guilty before, that's all.
