Kingsland Red Posted 29 May, 2011 Share Posted 29 May, 2011 I think we may have to review our assessment of Messi, as I thought he was a tad better than what we've seen from Adam Lallana to date ! Early doors in the boy Lallana's career though.

sambosa75 Posted 29 May, 2011 Share Posted 29 May, 2011 I dont think Messi has the skill or vision that Lallana possesses. He might be quicker but Lallana makes up for it with his other attributes. Lallana probably wouldnt have scored yesterday from where Messi did. But saying that, he would have beaten Ferdinand with a neat lolly-pop and deft feint and then nutmegged Vidic before dinking the ball over the on-rushing Van Der Sar. He'd have also celebrated a lot more reservedly, perhaps a gentleman's hand shake with Dean Hammond before running back to his half to resume the game. It's likely also that Lallana would have got the assists for the other goals yesterday too.... and picked up Rooney's run from deep for the Man Utd goal, intervening with a last minute slide tackle to nip the ball off Rooney's toes before getting back up and architecting a break attack, probably also ending up as a goal. Badger Posted 29 May, 2011 Share Posted 29 May, 2011 Saints do better corners than Barecelona. Xavi constantly tried the Alan Ballesque short corner routine too often for my liking.

Colinjb Posted 29 May, 2011 Share Posted 29 May, 2011 When Messi improves a little, he may be able to play in Adam's wing position. Lets face it, that improvement is unlikely, Messi is obviously performing right at the limit of his ability whereas we know that Lallana has potential to improve further. I'm not so sure. I think Messi could learn a lot from Lallana and bring it into his game. His first touch and short passing needs some work IMO

Turkish Posted 29 May, 2011 Share Posted 29 May, 2011 And Messi is only one year older than Lallana at the same age Lallana is better. i think he has a better football brain than Messi, who often just looks for the simple pass after he has got himself into trouble by dribbling too much. People go on about him scoring 50 odd goals this season but it's easier to score in Spain, just look at Forlan and Kanute for proof of this, they couldn't do that in England. I cant imagine Messi would score 20 goals in England like Lallana did last season. Add to this Lallana is physically stronger than Messi then i think there can only be one answer as to which player is better.
LostBoys Posted 29 May, 2011 Share Posted 29 May, 2011 Anyone would look good being marked or in this case not marked by that clown Michael Carrick. He wandered around never made a tackle and when he got the ball gave it away. On his way and please nowhere near St Mary's.

For heavens sake you'll be making a case for Barcelona to be by far the greatest team the world has ever seen next where we all know (and sang the song) it's Southampton FC. Early doors in the boy Lallana's career though. Rubbish. Messi wouldn't get in the current Saints team. Anyone else notive Berbatov missing yesterday from Man Utd? aintforever Posted 29 May, 2011 Share Posted 29 May, 2011 It's easy to look good when playing alongside players like Xavi and Iniesta - taking that into account you have to say Lallana is better. Plus Lallana is younger.

Badger Posted 29 May, 2011 Share Posted 29 May, 2011 I'm sure that Ian Branfoot would be quick to point out the main shortcoming in Messi's game is that he neglects his other duties and does not tackle back enough. Furthermore Dixon & Speedie would score more goals over a season than Messi. Finally I don't understand why we are trying to make a comparison between Messi and Lallana when it is clear that Messi would not displace Paul Moody from our team. Kingsbridge Saint Posted 30 May, 2011 Share Posted 30 May, 2011 Messi is marginally better than Lallana, and if he works on his game has the potential to be as good as Le Tiss.

The new Barcelona dont want players like this, we could do better and should be aiming higher than this has been.
