Best Saints Goals of All Time

Bearing in mind who it was against, and the fact it was Channon's final goal for us, its by far and away my favourite goal. Probably also helps I was a nipper when it was scored, remember everyone trying to play one-touch at school on the Monday.

Can't think of a similar "team" goal, we probably scored a few last season when we were utterly taking the **** but none of them are iconic. Few goals seem to stick in the memory these days. too much footie on TV I guess.

Others that spring to mind:

Beattie against Leicester

Pahars vs the Skates

Golac vs (Coventry?)

Most of Matty's :)

I found myself thinking back to that Channon goal against Liverpool on Saturday. Rodriguez goal had similarities but I only counted 10 passes leading to the goal rather than the 15 against Liverpool. But somehow, I thought the ball control for the Rodriguez goal was of a higher standard.

Of all time?

Well my memory is a bit hazy, but in 1888 Gandy's 90 yard thunderbolt that went right through the net and landed in the pond has to be up there too.

Very close, it was Tandy and his effort also got a deflection on the way before it beat the Bury keeper Gilpes.

No it was definitely Gandy. I remember he forgot his right football boot and had to wear hobnails, which were lethal.

The Channon goal in the OP, is one that I watch from time to time to cheer myself up. It is one of the best goals ever scored let alone for Saints (IMO obviously, as it is all subjective). If that was Liverpool, ManU, Barcelona, Brazil, etc then it would be played all the time.

Funnily enough, when I saw the title, I thought of the Delap goal too. Crap player generally,

but any player in the World would have been happy to have scored that one.

-I think that's a trifle unfair. He was the type of utility player who could DAJFU ...when asked to fill a role.

Back in the days when shirts were numbered 1-11, he started his first game at RB ....and although only playing 24 games wore ...SEVEN different shirt numbers that season.

Always willing to " fill-in " whenever there was a problem, he was IMO.. unfairly criticised just because he was willing to have a go.

He is certainly the only Saints player (to my knowledge) to have scored 2 goals in an away League game v. Arsenal....when he scored twice in the last 10 minutes. (2004/5)

....we certainly never found a striker who could capitalise on his long throw-ins.... (as were seen after he moved to Stoke).

I think you'll find Steve Moran and Dave Armstrong both acheived that feat in the mid 80's. ;-)

As team effort goes, the OP wins hands down for quality, but last season Notts For ? at SMS there was a goal which involved something like 28 ? passes in the build up, most being one touch passes at that.

My favourite has to be MLT's 1st of the 2 wonder goals v Newcastle just as he was about to be subbed by Branfart. It annoys me that most of the replays miss out the original 1st touch as he drags the ball from behind him whilst going forward at speed (well fast for Matt!). And even if he miss hit the shot, the sheer audacity of the flicks past the defenders were something to behold.

Definitely the Channon goal.

Also liked the one by Marsden at Stamford Bridge, when for a few seconds he played like Maradona!

Do you mean Ipswich, where he ran past about 6 defenders as if he had a magic force field around him which wouldn't let defenders get anywhere near him?

The times of sand have a way of exaggerating memories when it comes to football, but there is a goal I have never seen since the night it was scored, that looked incredible. Luton Vs Saints midweek league cup game (Or whatever if was called that particular year) Glen Cockerill dying minutes to earn a draw back at The Dell (Which of course we lost) Can't find it anywhere, but it was a cracker from a stupid angle (As I remember it - but will probably turn out to be a tap in) ... Can anyone help

For me the best goal award is :

team goal : Channon v Liverpool as shown above,

individual goal : MLT v Newcastle 1994 (?) when he strolled through their defence and stroked the ball in

One of my greatest and fondest memories though is KK's overhead 'goal' , 5/12/81.

The Keegan "no goal" for me.

A delicious twist at the end when Armstrong, who had strayed marginally offside, made amends by scoring the winner after 89 minutes.

What a team - Keegan,Channon,Ball,Armstrong,Williams, Golac.

I think that's the best "team" goal I've seen. That with LeTiss' against Newcastle and Keegan's dissallowed goal would be my three best Saints goals I've seen. Another great Saints team goal is Danny Wallace overhead kick against Liverpool a couple years later .
