Think the Adam Armstrong debate depends on Wills formation. He’s a terrible centre forward, but is very handy as an inside right. So if Will is playing a formation with an inside right (note - not a winger as he can’t do that either) keep, anything else sell (maybe to Rangers as can see him scoring loads there under Russ).

Basically at that level if he is facing goal with space in front of him, he has the pace and shot to be dangerous. He can’t beat a player for skill or pace so can’t play anywhere he is likely to be marked.

I also have a feeling the same applies to Archer - but replace right with left (and I think he is a bit quicker and more accurate, but lazier).

No way should we have both.

He is crap lone striker, but would be very useful if Still plays 2 up top, coupled with an apparent style of getting chances from wide. Should mean more 2nd balls in the box and chances with the ball being played in from wide

if we continue with the possession based, slow build up, with him as a lone striker, then get rid

Might I suggest a simple answer to the question? Either go and stand next to him in Waitrose or look at some photos and see how much he dwarfs (or vice versa) Capn Jack, Janny B, KWP etc.  Try to avoid the requirements to draw multiple lines as the VPN lot do as he'll come up as either 1mm or 14,000 miles.

It is very hard to get accurate player heights anywhere. Many websites that list heights (including those of their own clubs) have them incorrect.

I would let Armstrong move on if we get an OK offer for him - they are better centre forwards and better wingers - right or left - out there.   He is only really effective as an inside forward - but I'd rather have a forward who is a bit more versatile than that.   And I am not sure he will suit the way Still will want to play.

I could see him being a good signing and a success at Rangers under Martin.  Lets hope Russell feels the same.

Armstrong's reported to be on £60k per week. Even if he took a 50% pay cut, £30k per week would still immediately make him one of Rangers' highest paid players. He's also valued at around €13m. 

Rangers record transfer fee of all time is £12m and they're really excited by the prospect of a 'cash injection' from their new owners of a laughable £20m, which they'll expect to cover 4 or 5 signings. Half their regular starters last season were signed for less than £1m and they consider £30k per week to be very big money. They're not in a position to afford any players of ours for whom there might be any other real interest from the top of the Champ or the bottom of the PL. That's why the Downes rumour yesterday was so ridiculous. 

This is going to be a recurring thing with any players that Martin wants to take, or with most of our players who people think would do well in Scotland. The transfer fees and wages they're able to pay up there are an order of magnitude less than the top of the Championship, let alone the Prem. We've got bang average players like Armstrong and Aribo who have got used to being paid sixty grand a week, and elsewhere in the Championship there are no-mark players like Mike Tresor and Zeki Amdouni being signed for transfer fees of £16m, £17m, £18m. Rangers can't get anywhere near that. 

Rangers are a big club in terms of crowds and stadium etc, but they are small fry when it comes to spending power. A £12m record fee paid puts them in and around the same bracket as Swansea, Stoke or Cardiff. And they paid that 25 years ago when they were much more of a force than they are now and before they went bust.

I would agree with you to some extent - but I don't think any bottom end premier league team or top end Championship team would really want him - firstly he is nowhere near good enough for the premier league and has proved that twice over with us.  Secondly after he 'bad spell' on loan with West Brom I don't think any top team in the Championship will be clamouring to sign him.   

He was supposedly on £60K a week last season - hopefully that drops to £30K after relegation.  But his value is probably nearer £5-6M than £12M right now.   If we did sell him on anywhere if would probably have to involve us paying of his contract to some extent, plus a signing on fee from the club he joined to bridge any gap in wages.  or maybe it would have to be a straight loan with us paying half the wages.  

With the 49ers investing in Rangers they are going to have more money to spend than they have had for quite a while - but you are probably right we are  more than likely stuck with him. But its no impossible.  Its about the only place I could see him going.

I never understood why we gave him a new contract last summer - when he only had a year left - that was the time to sell him to a top end Championship club for £12M.

I dont understand why the majority seem to be so keen to offload Armstrong!? A player who scored a hatful the last time we were in this division, the goals that got us into the upper end of the table and playoffs. And then scored the winner in the final to get us promoted. I think he deserves more respect than he gets from us.
Yes, we know he isn't good enough for the Premier League if we do go up again, but he is proven at this level and that's what we need for now. He's scored 49 goals in 86 Championship games in his last 2 full seasons down here! If we signed someone next week with that record, surely we would all be excited.
Personally, I really hope he stays. I think all of our other current forward options (Onuachu, Stewart, Archer, Ballard, etc) are a risk (for a number of different reasons) and all a bit unknown, whereas we can be pretty confident that Adarma will score goals for us at this level.

He still misses plenty of chances even at Championship level. I think we can do better, but would rather see Onuachu, BBD and Stewart out of the door before possibly Armstrong and Archer.

 Not only that he was mainly played wide right in the promotion season and had the best goals assist ratio.we are Pyle be very lucky to get another wife man who would put those numbers up and he could also be used in a two as well . Seems a no brainer keep

Thinking a Stewart and Armstrong partnership could work ok if there was any chance that we’d play two up front, so not sure about losing AA. Having said that there are probably better suited players out there if the budget allows a decent signing.

Who would we replace him with to get 15-20 goals plus the assists and how much would he cost us ? 
 

Funds are going to be tight this season and we are going to have to spend wisely . I’m. It sure spending Millions on a striker to get us 15-20 goals is wise, when we have one who can achieve that already.
