Genuine question, why would Romeu be at the training ground? 
 

Negotiations wouldn’t happen there, he’s seen the training ground before. The only reason he would be there is for media/announcement reasons.

If he was there, I’d expect him to be announced today.

He is still under contract to Barca until 2026 but is into final year and they are happy for him to go- one way or another. Been linked with another spell at Girona but also Real Oviedo.

And he caught up with the squad when we were in Spain recently. He’s fit and capable and would be an excellent squad player - especially if we are playing a double six - ( Shea and Flynn or Shea and Sesay or add Will Smallbone if you must) which is his best position as a more defensively minded midfield enforcer. Given the number of games and injuries and suspensions likely to that #6 position he’d certainly be getting some games in and with his experience ( and steel) be really developmental to most of the squad id say. I vote yes please.

Footballers are generally used to moving around and if Romeu does come it would likely only be for a season so he could easily rent a place here and keep his gaff in Spain. Potentially great for us if he's still got something left in the tank but probably won't happen.

Yeah, this is the bit that makes it seem unlikely.  Think he'd just had a kid when he left us so I can't see him wanting to relocate a young family away from Spain for what would probably only be a year, or two at best.

From a football perspective I wouldn't have any problem with it though.  He'd be decent cover for Charles and Downes and probably a good bloke to have around the place in terms of setting good examples.

You say that, but some friends of mine went to live in Japan for a year with their 3yo kid, just for the experience before he started school. 

I appreciate Sheffield to Tokyo is a world away from Girona to Southampton, but I wouldn't rule it out completely.

Oh yeah, could be a number of reasons why he could be interested.  Just thought it unlikely given the reasons for leaving in the first place but circumstances change and people change their minds too.

Think you may be misremembering as I haven't heard anything from the usual reliable sources and you'd think it would be all over this forum if that were the case.

This is how boring the transfer window has been - our biggest rumour since singing Downs weeks ago is a random bloke on the forum saying his mate has seen Romeu at the training ground. Thinking about it more, given that he was with the club last week, there really is no need for him to be at Staplewood at all, so I'm calling bullshit until we get some independent verification.

OR was an insane player for us in his day, but he left a few years ago and was clearly off the pace at that time - admittedly in the PL.....does he really have the legs to play/compete week in week out in the championship?

I know he was at Barcelona etc etc etc, but the pace and style of play is totally different. Good back up, but really!?

He's without a club so is available. He'll be 34 in September and always seemed to keep himself in great shape when playing for us. I could see him anchoring our midfield and using his experience and guile to make up for the loss of a bit of pace - he was never the quickest anyway so didn't rely on speed. If he was at Staplewood added to the fact that he pitched up at our training camp in Spain this might be something to keep an eye on.

He was in great shape yes, but he was allowed to move on because he clearly didn't have the legs for the PL any more....as far i can recall.

On the "legs" front, I don't see it as much of an issue if his role is largely to protect the defence.

In the PL, particularly under Ralph, possession was not a priority, and running/pressure was. This season we should be looking to control possession in most matches even if we also look to play forward more quickly than under Russball. He would be an absolute Rolls Royce player at Champ level and if he's keen we should bring him in.

He was another one Russell Martin wanted to fit his left footed, right winger criteria - similar to Patrick Roberts we chased in the 2024 window and then ended up signing Brooks in the Jan. Cant see Fellows being a target anymore under the new structure

nah, he wanted to move back to Spain as his missus was either pregnant or just given birth. Club did right by him and let him do it. He's definitely going to be good for the championship, been playing 20+ games a season since he left us in La Liga. Be very happy to have him back, top guy, top professional and can still do a job for a couple of years.

Yeah, he's predominantly left footed but can cross with his right and given we're supposedly looking for wingers on both sides then I can see him being a valid option.  Wouldn't rule it out at any rate.
