Agreed. He has no system they need to gel to and has said simply if you’re good enough you’ll play. We will see a largely changed starting 11 next weekend.

Azaz coming in straight away surprised me a bit, yes he was fit and had played for Boro and had a full pre-season but he had only been signed the previous day and probably didn't even get a training session. This does indicate that the new players will come straight in, especially as there's a gap until the next fixture. Scienza is the only new outfield player (excluding Downs and Quarshie signed earlier in the window) that I can see having to fight for his position due to the form of Robinson and Fraser (one of whom will probably be on the bench). I think the rest come straight in (Fellows RW, Azaz 10, Jander CM, Mads RB, Jelert LB) as long as Will goes to his preferred formation.
revolution saint Posted yesterday at 08:24 Posted yesterday at 08:24 Yeah, Still doesn't seem afraid to chuck new players in quickly. I remember Ralph - he didn't want to play anyone until they'd had about a month of training with us.

gio1saints Posted yesterday at 11:21 Posted yesterday at 11:21 It would be a bold statement starting Casper instead of Flynn or Shea. Ditto starting Jelert instead of Manning and Scienza instead of Jay or Ryan. Of the newbies only Mads Fellows and Azaz are nailed on starters - for me. I think Fraser will start and be replaced last 30 by Jay whilst sane with Scienza for Azaz and Charles/Flynn for Caspar same time. if we need goals the other subs are going to be attackers but if it’s an easy win Jelert may get a run out for Manning or Mads..

I'd be dropping Downes for Jander for the derby. Its no place for someone who is seemingly as fairweather as he is atm, similarly he is constantly getting needless bookings or giving away fouls all the time atm - don't know whats up with him, maybe its because his mate russel has left or because we blocked his move to Ipswich, but whatever it is his head doesn't seem fully focussed and putting him in CM for the skates would worry me a bit. Totally agree. Awful attitude and he’s actually not very good. Stick him on the bench. 2
Chez Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago What's the latest on Edozie and Aribo? Does them training suggest the moves to Belgium and Turkey have fallen through, or with the windows getting close to closing we felt the time was right to start reintegrating in case they didn't happen?

The needless fouls thing can be taken in a positive way in that at least he isn't being a "choirboy", but as much as you want your centre mid to be spiky and physical, he has been pretty reckless and blatant at times. Hacking someone down on purpose isn't professional and prevents you 'taking a yellow for the team' at a later point. I can't imagine the manager would play him if his 'head was elsewhere', but I can't explain these acts. Maybe he always did it and I didn't notice? The problem with dropping him is Charles is often the wrong side of the ball, which is not what you want from a DM, and we don't really know what Jander is like without the ball. 1

Haven't heard anything so it's hard to tell. I'd have thought Edozie would probably be moved either loan or permanent but that's only because I'm not sure we'd have sanctioned the Scienza deal if we thought he'd still be here. 2

Downes was pretty much the best player in his position last time in this league. I wouldn't be dropping him as soon as there is another viable option but rather hoping the presence of that option will see him up his game. In that position I am more interested to see whether we can get Shea Charles to extend his contract to avoid being forced into a sale next summer (regardless of whether we go up or not). He looks like he can be a very good box to box midfielder and seems durable as well. Edited 23 hours ago by Dusic 4

Charles looks improved and very capable, but he could be better defensively...so we don't have a lot of choices. When the club mentioned at the fans forum that they were negotiating several other contracts I think it was widely assumed it was for Baz and Charles - as there weren't many others it could be (Dibling apart). There has been talk on here of SFC possibly extending ABK's contract to protect their investment. The same might apply to Smallbone, abut less likely for Manning, Armstrong and Edozie.

I don't think there have been any concrete links for Aribo, have there? Turkey only came up in conversation on the basis that no one in England or Scotland who would like him will be able to get close to his wages and he's unlikely to be considered good enough for a move to a big team in one of the top leagues.

Nothing has made it out into the media, but Still did mention in one of his recent press conferences that both of these players had pending transfers lined up and that's why they were training separately. We know Edozie was close to a move to Bruges, but whatever was going on for Aribo was kept out of public knowledge. But yeah, the Turkey suggestion was just because their window is still open I think. The fact they are both back in full training might suggest they have decided against moving and are willing to stay and fight for a place (or sit on their arses and get paid not to play because nobody was matching their current deal).

gio1saints Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) It “should” pan out as follows: Fellows takes Aribos #7 shirt Scienza takes Edozies #23 shirt Caspar takes vacant #8 shirt Jelert takes whatever number he likes not already taken. If neither Sam or Joe leave then the newbies can choose a number - or in what might be a tough move- they are asked to give up their squad numbers to the newbies. Don’t think it will come to that if they stay though. Not good for team morale. Or maybe it is. I’m not convinced. Depends ob Sam and Joe training attitude if they stay but not make squads - which I have 100% conviction will be totally professional. Edited 3 hours ago by gio1saints
