What formation have the U21s been playing?

I was just complaining about the 3CBs the B team were using the other day against Madrid - literally all 3 of them were stood around marking either 1 guy or.... No-one at all while Madrid kept the ball in front of us, then attacked with movement down the flanks or in behind. Hard no on that coach and also Lallana and Trollope need to do one as well.

Spors has at least got some gems in Scienza and Jander so maybe his boy Eckert is the one.

Eckert is also even younger than Will Still. I think he'll be our youngest ever manager (interim included) unless I'm wrong about that.

Let’s hope if it is Eckert he stays as interim until he proves himself. I still have flashbacks of Lowe announcing Wigley as permanent before he’d even been in charge for one match…..

Why complining? They got result vs one of the best academies in world football. So it worked!

Of course he's not coming back. We're a fruit cake of a club, but not THAT much of a fruit cake.

Oh I have learnt never to say never to anything in football, it is fecking loopy and the in thing seems to be managers going back to their old clubs. We have 2 names that keep coming up!

Should be all in for Mark Robins.

The next out the door needs to be Spors. What a legacy, this awful appointment, a new deal for Stephens and Damian Downs.

Had to be done unfortunately. Won't be holding my breath for the fucking idiots in charge to get the next lamb to the slaughter right either. Utter twat of a club at the moment.

You just know that SR want to give it to Eckert. Former SR/Spors history, and they kept on Trollope and Lallana as coaches to bed him in, I can see this dude getting given the gig if we actually pick up points at Loftus and against the utterly turgid Wendys.

Trollope and Lallana should be gone as well - clean sweep needed with no remnants of coaches who have clearly failed as much as Will Still. He shouldn't be the scapegoat when others were also culpable.

And / or (as I’ve said before) Tessem. There’s no one in the club that really knows what it’s like to live and die for the red and white like we do. With an experienced DoF - who knows?? Can’t be any worse than the last half-dozen failures….

I’ll ask him tomorrow when I see him if he’s interested lol

Pity the next poor sod who has to try to get a tune out of our squad of failures and bottle jobs. Most of them need to take a long look in the mirror.

5 managers there with 5 wins between then. Shocking and embarrassing 😳

It what's next that worries me. I'm hearing RH is coming back which wouldn't be the end of the world but he was never the same manager after Rohl left, and then there's those two 9-0 defeats.

Can we please put this myth to bed once and for all. Our best spell of form under Ralph, that saw us top the PL table this time 5 years ago, came long after Rohl had left the club.

This notion that Rohl was the brains of the operation and that Ralph was useless without him is total bullshit that is somehow still persisting in the minds of too many people.

I said it recently and I stand by it - I would fucking bite your arm off to get Ralph back here now. He's the ONLY manager we have had in the years since Koeman left that was able to get a limited squad performing better than the sum of its parts. Yes, I gather he fell out with quite a few players, but fuck them. Most of them have left now anyway. And those leftover have had it too easy for too long now with managers who are too pally with them.

Mousinho? Soz, but we need attitude and focus, he has it in spades, and with our players would prove how good he is...career progression into the EPL, which he won't get with them skates

The clear out suggests they are preparing to bring someone in with their own team (and suggests they have someone in mind).

Could this be the return of Ralph?

I will state personally that in no way should I think we should go for a former manager. We should move on and look for whoever is the best choice currently available.

And yet, if we did bring Ralph back, I'd be happy enough. Won't happen though.

Think he’ll move on from them and do well somewhere else in his career, but not with us. Too much baggage to overcome.

He was in stand at the Bristol City game last week. I can't think of another good reason why that would be, unless there was some element of truth in the rumour that he is being lined up to replace Still.

You mean the most ridiculous appointment since 2023.

McMenemy - Mortimer, Hassenhuttl - Rohl, Clough - Taylor, the right partnership works, it's stronger than the parts.

Ralph should never have been sacked, he worked miracles with the budget he had, which just how much of a miracle shows now! Also his best mate is just up the road in Bristol. Ralph steadied the ship in 2018, managed to get us to the top of the table. My concern was the way we just collapsed in the 2 x 9-0 defeats. But all in a pretty smart and passionate manager who may have got a little over emotional at times, but sod it why not, at least it showed he cares.

Saying this, we did sack him and many on here wanted him sacked, so I am not sure if it would be the right move. I would be happy and take him back with open arms.

Yeah, not really true though. Ralph was great but he was cooked at the end of his time here. The fact that we appointed complete muppets to replace him don’t alter the fact that he needed to go.

in any case, SR have shown repeatedly that they are largely incompetent when it comes to appointing managers. Expecting much of the same next.

Yeah, now you mention it, I believe he was talking about retiring? Or did I dream that. He was cooked because the lack of support and the fact he could not get anymore out of the team. If he was given the backing he may have kept us up. I believe even then we were talking about needing a striker!

More managers than wins since the start of 2024/25 season 😂😂😂😂😂

Not as good as the premiership of Liss Truss seeing more monarchs than Saints victories. F**k me, that was a stat and a half.

Yeah that’s how I recall it too. He had said he wanted to retire at a point. Also, he had a terrible, terrible finish to the previous season of results, really appalling results over a large period of time. The club then decided to forcibly appoint Ruben Selles as his number one, we know where that ended up.

i will always treasure Ralph, I thought he was great. But his time was done, and then the club completely undermined him leading to an eventual dismissal. A fuck up that kind of defined SR really.

Ralph hit a wall but was also often doing things with one hand tied behind his back with Gao not able/willing to spend.

I think we needed a refresh at the time and it’s often much easier to change a head coach than squad.

If Ralph has his mojo back I would welcome him back. He had an immediate impact and we could (pre the drubbings and the wobble) all see how he wanted the players to play which largely got the team playing above the sum of their parts. Get Ralph, a proper 9 and a keeper in January and we can get things back on track.

The argument goes Still lacked the experience/presence to get a tune out of the players. Ralph is certainly an antidote to this.

Ralph is but as I mentioned a week ago, he was manager at Leipzig when Spors was a scout. Perhaps Spors has reached out to him again.

What is really the stuff of nightmares is that RM is the bookmakers' favourite!!

Posted

While the senior pros seem to want RM I just don’t see the point, if he manages to get up promoted in the future he’s already shown he’s too stubborn to change his way of playing and got himself sacked rather than change the style.

A bunch of Saints fans likely putting money on it on the basis that its expected due to SR being colossal cockwombles.

Surely these are just old lists from back from just before RM was appointed?  Can't be real.
