Agree with playing the strongest team available but prior to that, a bit of psychology and if I was Still I’d be saying at the presser that Aribo and Edozie are starting as they need minutes.

No intention of playing in them in actuality but watch their agents scurry to complete moves they’ve been stalling for months over.

Sargent is a big threat, Norwich another possession team with 500 plus passes. With a bit of luck this will be one of the biggest bore draws of the season and Saints can nick a goal in 95th min. Of course if both teams leave out many players then who knows.

This game does feel utterly pointless doesn't it, I say that as someone going, perhaps the only worth-while benefit is it's another game for Still to try to learn and understand what might work better for him. Give the new lad Mads a game , might need to think about left back with Welington likely to be out for a while

They won the League Cup but got relegated, bittersweet, so can’t have been 1985/6. 

1986 I was flying BAC 1-11 from Aberdeen so didn't fly the F27 after February. It was my second stint on the F27 the first was 80 - 82 before that it was the Herald and back on the F27 about March 85. It could possibly have been on a Herald. More likely 12th Jan 1985 before I went onto the BAC 1-11.

Who was Saints manager at the time? Lawrie would have been hard to forget. If it was 1986/87, Nicholl was manager. Lost there August 1986 4-3 so that’s the other option. 

I was at the return game Feb 1987 which we also lost, Mark Dennis committed a horrific foul on Dale Gordon which only recieved a yellow but outraged their fans in the Archers cage. Would have been x10 red cards today!

I'm sure it was Lawrie, I flew them in to Norwich and then had to fly the aircraft back to Southampton so didn't get to the match. I remember the loss by one goal. My feeling it was a Herald not an F27 on 12th Jan 1985 1 - 0 to Norwich. i also flew them to Amsterdam for a pre season friendly. Lawrie gave me Peter East's History of Southampton signed by the Saints party including Kevin Keegan.

Sounds like January 1985 and the 1-0 loss to me. Must have been a reduced capacity due to the fire in October 1984?

That really was an eventful season - Main Stand burnt down, League Cup winners including beating Ipswich in a 2-leg semi final and relegated. Mick Channon played in the final so might have played in the Saints game as well.

Ironically, the new stand was opened in August 1986 v Saints which we lost 4-3. The old stand burned down due to a club employee leaving a 3-bar electric fire on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrow_Road

Been to nearly every game with them and it’ll get very ugly indeed if we lose the home game. Spors and Dragan would be persona non grata in the city and unlikely Still would remain.

Trust me on that. I was there in 2010 when they beat us late on when they were two divisions above with subs they couldn’t afford, and we were underdogs, and it was still feral. Ask the Citroen dealership….

I was there too but didn’t see to much of the afters.

Fans are getting apathetic now, just sick of the speak of improvement and marching on bollocks.
