What's he like with his feet? In all seriousness, Bazunu is a key part of our build up and replacing him with someone who can't pass (i.e a McCarthy type) would be as detrimental as keeping crisp packet hands Baz.

We need someone who is competant at playing out and can actually make saves. I don't know who that would be 😃

Fuck knows, but DNA wise I think he’s likely about 90% more goalkeeper than Bazza.

Few links emerging linking us with a January loan move for Daniel Peretz the Bayern reserve keeper (currently loaned to Hamburg, but not getting games). Previously a bit of a star for MTA. Big strong keeper, touch of the Boruc about him. Good move all round if it happens.

I saw that. It would be a good move

Hopefully we can find more talent from Germany 🇩🇪

If you think he’s the worst keeper in the football league, then carry on I’m not saying you’re wrong. Maybe I am just a weird contrarian. However come January, don’t be surprised to find out the club are satisfied with winning ‘in spite of crisp pocket wrists’ and we don’t sign someone to replace him.

No one has said he is the worst and the fact that your only justification seems to be, he has a better record than our other keepers, doesn't make him 'decent' either. We could live with 'decent'. For 'decent', see 'steady'. He is neither. You can't quote data as a defence while ignoring more pertinent data of him being consistently toward the lower performing keepers in whatever division he has been in, since being good on loan at Pompey. I know, discussions about him are everywhere but I would welcome a truly steady keeper alongside a similarly steady 7 / 10 number 9 to be a focal point of our attack, particularly when Scienza goes off or isn't available so we can revert to a plan B that doesn't invite the opposition to our defensive third.

Seen a video of him where he pings lots of superb long balls which are inch perfect. Makes plenty of decent saves helped by getting his angles right. Looks to have hands like flypaper rather than crisp packets as he catches quite a few balls that were hit hard which is quite unusual in modern day keepers who tend to parry everything.

Well he's used to playing with a terrible defence in front of him - half these shots he shouldn't have had to save 😂

The only thing I am struggling with is why this guy can't get games for Hamburg where Damion Downs was once a star striker?

Damion Downs has never played for Hamburg.

Hamburg are in the Bundesliga this season. Downs played for FC Koln in 2.Bundesliga.

Bazunu is 23rd out of a list of 26 Championship keeper stats this season - so if that makes him decent then I'm a Dutchman. Ignoring the stats you only have to watch him to know he is substandard.

Stats 🤣

Thanks - some good saves low down, as well as the flashier high dives. Also saw him actually catch a couple of saves which is refreshing.

The only thing the video showed nothing of which would be good to know is dealing with crosses and corners, I.e. does he clearly people out of the way and command his area. Would be useful to know that.

He's only ever played for Cologne.

Spors forecasts quiet January window for Southampton - https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c058863npnvo

So, basically, we changed too many players from the squad that got utterly humiliated in the PL last season and that was why results weren't great under Still (nothing to do with him leaving all our best attacking players on the bench then).

And so, to stop that from repeating, we're going to largely stick with the same players that have proven themselves to be crap time and time again.

Makes perfect sense 😐

It's a bit worrying really, the more I see and read from everyone around the club, the more it feels like the last 6 weeks have been a purple patch rather than anything particularly transformative - and we will dine on that purple patch for months. They seem to be using this 'purple patch' as justification for everything they did in the summer, rather than holding their hands up to say that they got multiple things wrong. For sure, Leo, Jander, Fellows etc - good picks, good additions. But they cannot ignore the catastrophic errors they made up front, at CB and in GK. They need to own those.

I don't like how the club kept Spors back from the media when the going was tough, when Still was sacked etc, but he's then happy to front up after a 6 week uptick. Hide when the going gets tough, it's a trait which follows the players on the pitch too.

Perfectly summed up. I thought the timing of the interview with Spors was crass and unnecessary, it stunk of look how great we are now we’ve won a few games. Very worrying.

Going to draw another Sunderland comparison, but last January they made the ambitious signing of Enzo Le Fe on loan from Roma with a £20m fee based on promotion. He turned out to be a technically gifted player and helped get them promotion. They also signed him for £20m in the summer and didn't go, oh we've already committed £20m on a loan player, so we can't spend much more this summer. So, they're ran very differently, especially considering their success this season. But, it would be nice for us to not coast through January for a change. Go in assertively and get what we want. A David Brooks style loan would also be very welcomed. A good player from the Premier League who needs minutes.

Think if we want to have a serious go then Long being recalled by Norwich would be great. No more signing players because they tell good jokes, please. Then getting a new goalkeeper in on loan is a must. Bazunu doesn't make the match winning/promotion winning saves. Every shot against him we seem to say the attacker does place well. But, so do most attackers in the top two leagues in England and every now and again a goalkeeper gets to them, see Scienza against Birmingham. Bazunu doesn't.

Plus a good striker who can give us an alternative to the small ones we have. Armstrong and Archer are the same player, Armstrong just puts in more effort. Stewart's permanently injured and Downs should be loaned out from January to try and rediscover some form as he isn't going to play his way into form here, if he is any good.

They're the two positions we need to focus on. Another attacking player to take the load off Scienza, Azaz and Fellows would be beneficial, but that feels like asking a lot for January.

As for the above, we need to continue making lots of changes to the players who played in the Premier League last season. We've had a good run and some of our best players in the run have been the new guys - Scienza, Fellows, Azaz and Jander. Will Still's tactics were just shite, passive and slow that didn't get the best out of them and when they didn't play well he dropped them and limited their minutes. While our lesser players in this run have been the old guard, the usual names. Stephens, Bazunu, Wood, Manning, Aribo and Fraser have been the weak links in the side. We need to continue phasing those out. Edwards' time is probably up here too. Worth getting a bit of money back on him now.

Jack Rosser saying Saints are after Patterson (GK) of Sunderland and als a ST in January.

Not exactly amazing journalism, just stating the obvious. But some hope there that people at the club might’ve realised Gavin Bazunu is crap.

I thought club said a week ago there will be no Jan buys as already got enough new players. Do we get any parachute payment next season? We have no cover if any starting 11 out but guess lub just looks at the back of programme and sees 34 players.

They never said no buys, just not busy.

it will be a loan anyway.
