Willo of Whiteley Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago People saying they’re glad Adam Armstrong has gone will be the same people in a few weeks time saying we should’ve kept him 😂 Sport Republic have somehow found a way of making us worse this window. 3 1

BotleySaint Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago So we've sold our top scorer and replaced him with an unknown. Another gamble. Classic SR trying to be smarter than everyone else. 1

benali-shorts Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago What’s the end result in our net spend? AA, Edwards, AB-K: must be around £14m plus wages of AA, Aribo, Bazunu, Downs - must be combined >£100k/week x 1/2 a years - another couple of million. Peretz and Larin - maybe £40k/week so £1m for 1/2 year. We’ll have made c£15m. Runaway champions again. Cov and Boro fans will be green with envy.

His misses at Blackburn and Portsmouth arguably lost us six points and with those points we'd be knocking on the door of the play off places. And in the Sheff Utd & Stoke games we looked better without him. Let's see what Larin does. Won't be any worse than AA. Crazy post mate, he might not be super clinical but his game gets goals in this division, Che Adam’s used to miss absolute sitters and people still rate him for some reason to say larin can be no worse then AA is total madness you really think he’s gonna be a 20 goal a season striker . I’m thinking more like a cross between Damion downs and stern John Edited 3 hours ago by pimpin4rizeal
LaptopSaint Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Looks like a clusterfuck. Let’s see how it works out. Cyle Larin Larin He drives a McLaren He’s Canadian He hates the Pompey scum etc etc
SaintBobby Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago We are not exactly building to be competitive in the Prem next year are we?

If that was the expectation... that's rough. I don't think selling Arma makes much difference in that regard anyways. Didn't expect much this window, was happy with the goalkeeper change and disappointed with the striker swap, but never had any high hopes.
Pilchards Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago When you think about Armstrongs scoring record then it’s 174 appearance with a return of 43 goals. 21 of those were penalties. With him in the team you have to play a different system because of his size. Now look how the team have been in the last few games (ignore Pompey as that was horrific) The target man is the one who brings the rest of the midfield into the game. it’s those midfielders who are the ones we are backing to get the goals. Fellows, Sceinza, Azaz, Jander and Ross himself. Ross we know can’t play the full 90 so this new striker is a like for like to allow us to carry on playing the same way. I think it’s a gamble but so was our new keeper and bloody hell hasn’t he proved many of us wrong after we saw his highlight reel from his previous clubs. 1
Saint Fan CaM Posted 40 minutes ago Posted 40 minutes ago 2 hours ago, SaintBobby said: We are not exactly building to be competitive in the Prem next year are we? I think you’re getting ahead of yourself, even if SR are rubbish. It’s not too hard to remember the clusterfuck of a season we had just LAST season. It truly was horrendous. It’s easier to re-build a squad going up into the Prem, but when we went down with a bloated squad of largely rubbish, there was a massive re-build to be done over what will end up being at least three windows. The huge test for SR will be improving the squad further in the summer without losing our best players, but for now we need to be content that slowly, Eckhert has a slimmed down squad that’s more suited to the way he wants to play to get results.

That is a pretty damning statistic really. 22 open play goals in 4 seasons. I think we think he's better than has been because of the lack of other decent striking options in that time and because of one Championship season where most of those goals came (including, to be fair, the all important one). And yet Adams, possibly seen in less favourable light than AA by some people, got 49 in his 5 seasons with us and with more Premier League goals there too (although to be fair, he had more Prem seasons to do it in). I think one of AA's issues was his insistence that he is a striker when he seems more effective playing from wider positions. I also think he would suit the old fashioned 442 paired up top with a bigger striker, a bit like the Beattie/Ormerod partnership. A time will come again where we get a striker that can score goals. When? Who knows, hopefully in the summer with any luck, but I don't mind the sale of AA while the money was there, even if there are doubts over his replacement. I hope he does well at Wolves really but for the way we seem to want to play going forwards, I don't think he fits the system.
