AlexLaw76 Posted yesterday at 05:09 Posted yesterday at 05:09 (edited) Sopranos, Band of Brothers, The Wire, Peaky Blinders, Only Fools and Horses, Fawlty Towers, The Office Honourable mentions to Star Trek TNG, Quantum Leap, Extras, Game of Thrones, Broadwalk Empire not going to be a classic, but I like The Tulsa King right now Oh, never seen breaking bad. i wanted to include Line of Duty to the list of greats but the ridiculous last series just destroyed the show… probably why they are coming back, probably to fix it. tdmickey3 Posted yesterday at 08:38 Posted yesterday at 08:38 Only Fools and Horses, Line of Duty, Game Of Thrones, Yellowstone, Landman
Farmer Saint Posted yesterday at 08:41 Posted yesterday at 08:41 (edited) Difficult, but from a. Comedy POV if have to go with the US Office. First series of True Detective was very good, Better Call Saul was excellent, really enjoyed Narcos. Blue Lights is a very good TV programme at the moment as well, worth a watch. Edited yesterday at 08:41 by Farmer Saint
badgerx16 Posted yesterday at 08:42 Posted yesterday at 08:42 (edited) Father Ted, Thunderbirds, Star Trek ( original ), Sopranos, GoT. Edited yesterday at 08:43 by badgerx16
egg Posted yesterday at 09:28 Posted yesterday at 09:28 Only Fools, Auf wiedersehen pet, minder, sopranos. In more modern times, breaking bad, Yellowstone, slow horses.
Winnersaint Posted yesterday at 11:29 Posted yesterday at 11:29 59 minutes ago, Lighthouse said: Chernobyl. Basically perfect. Hard to disagree with that. Add Peaky Blinders, GoT, the Yellowstone origins series and Dark Horses of recent times, there is almost too much choice these days. In the past Edge of Darkness, Only Fools and Horses and Dad’s Army stand out for me but again there were so many greats back then it’s purely subjective.
The Kraken Posted yesterday at 11:42 Posted yesterday at 11:42 West Wing is an absolute classic, probably the first TV series that I binged on (via DVD). Still holds the test of time. Slow horses is very good, mostly because Gary Oldman is supreme. I’m enjoying Landman at the moment even if it is a parody of itself. I thought The Last Dance was brilliantly put together, the story of Michael Jordan at the Bulls. Only 10 episodes but very well made. Fawlty Towers for still being genuinely hilarious. Mindhunter was brilliant, I wished they had done more than 2 seasons.
badgerx16 Posted yesterday at 11:57 Posted yesterday at 11:57 Mrs B insists that I add The Sweeney to the list.
iansums Posted yesterday at 11:59 Posted yesterday at 11:59 Peaky Blinders, GoT and LoD all magnificent but scarred by poor final seasons IMO. Interesting to hear about more recent shows like Yellowstone and Landman as I haven't seen those yet. Best thing currently for me is Slow Horses, just finished Down Cemetry Road which is by the same writer and was very good.

revolution saint Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Slow Horses is excellent and I'm looking forward to watching Down Cemetery Road. Slightly different but Dopesick stands out over the last few years. Bit of an oldie now but back in the day "Edge of Darkness" was a big favourite of mine.

Couldn't stand Yellowstone - couldn't finish it in the end, generally boring characters doing boring things. Haven't done Landman yet.

sadoldgit Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago (edited) Haven’t seen Yellowstone but we enjoyed 1883 and 1923. I’m not going to be very original and say The Sopranos and Games of Thrones. Came late to The Line Of Duty but that is up there. Oh yes, agree with Slow Horses too. Comedy wise it has to be Only Fools and Horses along with Monty Python and Fawlty Towers with a special mention for Michael Palin’s Ripping Yarns. Tomkinson’s Schooldays was particularly brilliant. Turkish Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago (edited) This is England Peaky Blinders Fawlty Towers Only Fools and Horses The Affair Generally any series where Harlen Cobern has written the book is a belter too I never really got GOT, i know loads of people who love it but i watched once to see what the fuss was about and it just seemed ridiculous to me. Any adult that watches a program where kids are dressed up as Kings and a dragon can fly across the screen at any moment is questionable. Surprised to see so many votes for OFAH and Fawlty Towers given they both been recently branded racist and therefore liking them supports the far right. I expect Katy Hopkins likes them too. whelk Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago The Thick of It. And Veep Many have already mentioned others and probably so many I have missed - Sopranos, the Wire definitely up there

sadoldgit Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Blackadder is an interesting omission from many lists. The first series, written by Roman Atkinson and Richard Curtis, wasn’t great. Ben Elton and Richard Curtis wrote the Elizabethan themed second series, which was brilliant. They also wrote third series, which was okay, and the fourth series set in WW1, which was again brilliant, especially the last episode which is probably one of the greatest pieces of television ever. For those who hate the BBC, that alone was worth the license fee for a decade. I’m guessing that it is not up there with the greats for many because of the unevenness of the four series?
TheAlehouseBrawlers Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Just about covered above but would also chuck in Snowfall (start of LA crack scene), Money Heist (Spanish) and Vikings, all became compulsive viewing in our household for a while. Back in the day (early 80s) I used to like getting back from the pub midweek with my Chinese takeaway and switching on Hill Street Blues. Never seen it since so don’t know if it stands the test of time “…and remember, let’s be careful out there”

South Park has done that to a lesser extent as well but nothing in recent years.

The WW1 era however had a more depth with the subject matter giving the writers more to get their teeth into. It was ok, but the bar was very high after series 2.

The one about peadophiles was brilliant, the Nonse Sense campaign with Phil Collins wearing a t-shirt and saying “and I’m talking Nonse - Sense” had me crying at laughter. A whole lot of people were outraged by it even then and said they’d gone too far. It would never even make it onto tv these days.

The paedophile being blasted into space with a child "the one thing we didn't want to happen" good aids not bad aids, duping that twat Lineker, pedophiles having more in common with crabs than humans.
