I was a little on the negative side of JWP’s return, however there have been some good positive points made alongside a staggering good deal if £800k is correct. So now, I’m thinking let’s see what he brings - if he’s an abject failure I guess he’ll be joining Lallana in the youth coaching setup. I’ve met the lad and seen first hand the charity work he put in when at Saints the first time and he’s a long way from being a skate.

The one game he played for us at this level against Sheffield Wednesday he looked far too good for this league.  He has been plagued by bad management ever since but I still see him as being better than most of the midfielders in this league and hopefully his love for the club will inspire him and others!

Pretty pleased with this. Key thing for me is that we get him a bit further up the pitch than he was at times for us in the past.

Just watched a goal highlight reel which is a reminder of how effective he can be arriving late into the box, or hitting the target from just outside it (aside from free kicks of course!)

Be nice to see some cross onto Larins head from deep too.

Agreed. I think his "default" position will be one of the central mid 2 but there's also a shout to have him playing right back or right wing at times.

I’m never convinced about a player returning but whatever we think in terms of whether he will bring success, he will definitely give his all to the club and might just be able to give the youngsters confidence around him. Here’s hoping. Welcome back James.

It’s not like Walcott or Lallana though who were older and signed for the premier league. Romeu I was happy about but he wasn’t really up to it anymore sadly. JWP has a good 2-3 years left in him and is being signed for the championship. Like I said before if it wasn’t for the fact he’d played for us before the majority of people would be thinking this is a brilliant deal

If we were in the Prem, we'd be screaming no to this, but we're not, we've signed a reliable player, a set piece merchant, a 100 per cent effort, ex Saint, squad player (assuming Jander and Downes are oir number 1 CMs) for the same price we got Bree to play Championship football, on a two year deal. He won't set the world alight but for under a million you can't say this is a bad deal.

I would  like a midfield enforcer overall, a Wanyama type, in amongst them but Jander, Downes, JWP and Bragg is a pretty decent CM for a Championship promotion push.
