Come on Leeds, you just sold Struijk on June 30th, so it’s a blank slate in your finances now.

Yorkshiremen, tighter than crabs arses don't thee know lad.

Sounds like the opposite of what Solak said. Doubt that article is based on anything factual.

Solak isn’t going to say we’re going to sell them off cheap is he 😂

if we get an offer that meets near our valuation he’ll go, it’s as simple as that

The trouble was Saints wanted to keep him but reckoned he needed another loan and Dom was not interested in going out on loan again

Doesn't explain why we wouldn't have resigned him in January if we had the chance to do so.

I saw him play a few times for Orient last season, including a hat-trick at Wimbledon. Take the sentiment out of it, he still looks like a decent League One striker who has found his level. We need to be looking at players that can improve the team and play at a higher level, not ones who could ‘do a job’…

Why did we want to keep him in the summer then ?

I was actually referencing the comments around the financial situation in the article. I agree with your other comments btw.

Then buy him back.

No. We need to move away from soft centred sentimentality. Move on.

I'm not saying that we should buy him back, simply that if the reports that we wanted him still were true then we still have the opportunity now to buy him. If we don't then I question the report that we ever wanted to.

Not too fussed about Ballard leaving and scoring goals for Orient.

If he moved to the Championship though and banged in 15+ goals in a season then I would be more fussed. Till he does that then someone else can take the punt on him in this league.

Very quiet isn't it - it's obvs v early but not even any BS rumours

Dan Neil was expected to join but changed his mind for Rangers.

And we're in talks with others while still trying to shift deadwood.

To a point, although we’ve made two early signings (good moves I think all would agree), and rumoured to be close to signing Neil (so back to the drawing board perhaps on that position) before he went to Rangers

We’ve been linked with others, Mulligan and Noel Fuck-it (or whatever his name is). No idea how close to the mark or tenuous they are.

I’d expect things to ramp up it next couple of weeks. There’s also the WC on, and although we might not be shopping in that market, it will have a knock on effect as to who other clubs might be willing to release.

I'm sure we are but I haven't seen links to that effect.

Transfermarkt has a page dedicated to links to incoming players https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-southampton/geruechte/verein/180#google_vignette and there are five in there, not including the three signings we have already completed.

This page shows all the championship signings https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/championship/transfers/wettbewerb/GB2.  Other than Stoke, most have only brought one or two in so far.

Let's agree an better way forward.

Buying him back would be embarrassing.

Let's offer a refund with an additional extra for looking after him.

Maybe they still don't think he's good enough

The measure to that in my mind would be is he better than Cameron Archer.

Having a delve through the Transfermarkt pages and found a rumour of Quarshie going to Bundesliga 2 (Kaiserslautern) for €4m.

Can't find the original source of that story. He's still young for a CB and has the physical attributes we set out to get, but my guess is his lack of technical ability with ball shows up a lot in training and at the top level you've got to have it. If he looks uncomfortable on the ball all the time, then we might look to offload, but unless that's the case, I doubt the couple of errors we saw when he played are enough for us to cut our losses already.

He's barely been given a chance, but probably needs regular game time. I thought he looked pretty decent (quick and obviously good in the air), but not quite good enough to be a starter. What's happened to Kayi-Sanda (sold to us as France's best upcoming centre back...)? Thought he also did look promising.

Was on loan to Red Star in Ligue 2 for first half of last season. Not bad progress for a 19 year-old CB.

Has played for France at age levels but so did Yoann Folly.

Presumably if the intention was to keep him and loan him out they wouldn't have been expecting a better season than the one he just had. If they still don't think he is good enough then why would they have bothered keeping him and loaning him out ?

Inclined to agree, and he didn't look out of place, and no worse than others at the time. BUT, that was in one of our worst ever teams.

Why only half a season, did they send him back ?

One reason could be that he would be worth more as a sellable asset. As long as he is/was ours, the club would look at him (and value him) different than when he is a player of another club.

It might just be my way of thinking, but I don't find this Ballard situation so strange. Would love to have seen him make it here, but now I think we should treat him as any other potential transfer target - and I don't know if I would be that keen on him if it wasn't for the fact that he came through the ranks here.

I’ve never been ITK and I’m not sure whether I am now but I was told today that JWP is on his way back to Southampton. Don’t know if he’s a purchase or a loan. Two sources - 1 from someone linked to club and 1 linked to JWP.

Am happy to be proved wrong.
