What do we reckon on the Charles replacement then? Spors will have been well aware he was likely off for ages and the type of fee we’d get so he’s had plenty of time to eye up some targets.
Another young with potential? Older experienced pro? Defensive Mid or more progressive?

Personally I think Bragg and Downes can cover defensive positions between them so I’d like someone a bit more forward thinking. There’s not been a massive amount of links and off the top of my head there was Dan Neil, a lad from Palace and Josh Mulligan.

Dan Neil was quite a defensive signing I thought. I agree with you, we need more of a goal threat.

Yeah I’m kind of hoping we can’t read too much into nearly getting Dan Neil in. Would have been cheap experience but I wonder whether we’ve decided to not go relatively big money on a striker and will instead spend it on midfield instead.

I'm assuming Matsuki gets that gig, or Azaz drops deeper with Matsuki or Dobbin ahead.

Azaz and Dobbin playing together could be interesting. I think we will replace Charles though.

Got to be a progressive player.

jander/bragg/downes can all play the defensive role

Kalvin Phillips going on loan to Sheffield United. He still has two years left on his Man City contract :mcinnes:

Could Tonda get a tune out of him? Or is he completely finished these days

What happened to Barnaby Williams? He looked decent, well, like he had potential?

I’m not sure we will to be honest. Might be wrong but we are not hearing too much on time Charles replacement.

He was only sold today! Maybe the replacement will be a Prem loan.

Jordan James please Johan/Dragan🙏

What exactly would he bring? I don’t know much about him but he seems to be talked about a fair bit in the last couple of days.

Strange how it goes, a few weeks ago Josh Mulligan seemed to be the ‘must have’ linked with several clubs. But still at Hibs.

How many weeks to the window ‘slams shut’?

Well 11 goals and a few assists in a relegated team last year, and from what I can recall, lots of energy. At 22 could be a great addition. But seemingly in demand.

Trouble is for us though that he’d expect and want to be a guaranteed starter. He might get that at one of the other clubs in for him, but at Saints he’ll arrive with Downes and Jander in front of him.

I think we have generally moved on other than a few chants which are fair enough, Middlesbrough on the other hand are fucking mentally ill thinking they were in any way negatively impacted by us last season and are desperate to carry a victim complex into this season

Such an insignificant club. The north east teams don’t care about them so they try to pretend they’re Yorkshire when it suits, the Yorkshire teams don’t care about them as they all more interested in hating Leeds. No one south of Leeds know they exist. They’re a bit like Bournemouth and Reading. No one cares about them enough to hate them,  no one likes them and they’ve never been on anyone’s radars so got to enjoy the attention whilst it lasts

I'd hope so, but if we do I think it'll be a free or loan.

The Dobbin signing was interesting, Azaz/Dobbin as the 2 options for the attacking midfielder is great, but seems a little bit of a luxury of if one of those 2 will be sat on the bench, so will be interesting to see how they are employed by Tonda when both are fully fit.

Is he? No more than Stewart was last year or Wellington is. Or one of Matsuki or fellows. You need a strong squad.

I am sure we were told Azaz, for many games, was playing through pain and/or with a niggle.

He was great, but did go missing at times....

I'd mentally prepared myself to lose THB in this window and have been expecting it but replacing him at this stage would be almost impossible and would imo be a terrible blow to our chances of promotion, particularly with the minus points. Unless the fee really is ridiculous (35 million plus) I'd be telling him we just can't afford to lose him at this stage. I know it doesn't always work out like that but the likes of Leeds managed to only lose one big player when they failed to go up first year.

when he struggled we struggled (or maybe it was vis versa, I don't know). We can't have our entire season resting on the form and fitness of one guy. Signing another creative player made total sense. The same applies to other positions.

He was sold twelve hours ago. Don’t be a fanny.

Signings will come in. This isn’t Football Manager or FIFA, ffs.

To be honest I really think we are in the driving seat to win the league if we  keep the core of last seasons team .. just pray to god we don’t go and fuck up by letting the likes of scienza and Jander go ..how are you guys feeling about these ?

always get the feeling with saints that we kinda let the players decide if they wanna leave . But this is a massive season the relegated teams should have more transition then us with both squad and going from a losing to winning mentality.. whilst we should be in the position to hit the ground running as long as we keep the band together

I like your optimism and our game against Watford will be interesting to see if we really are READY for the start of the season. Watford are definately a side we should be beating, they are bang average. However my biggest fear is we are not ready for the start of the season. I really don't understand why we have played such bang average teams in pre-season and hardly any games to boot. We looked really rusty in the cup game and could easily have been behind at half time had it not been for Peretz.

Yep (not sure how when he is sold relates to rumours mind esp as the world and his wife knew a few weeks ago he was going) and maybe, maybe not - no rumours on either front.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis has admirers at Benfica, but there is currently no offer from the Portuguese club & Southampton would not entertain a sale at the mooted €20m price point.

Right but until it's official we probably won't be able to get anyone else in. Always a small chance he could fail his medical or something else goes wrong somewhere.

Rumours being people’s measuring stick on how our window is going will never not be funny

What are you talking about? Of course the window will be judged at its conclusion but obviously people are going to comment on rumours. What an odd fellow you are.

He’s doubting we’ll do anything to replace Charles because he hasn’t heard any rumours. That’s funny.

Yes, absolutely. Wasn't saying we shouldn't have signed him, we did need more depth in that position and he looks a quality addition so far. The point I was trying to make about Azaz/Dobbin was that they are both high value signings and when both are fully fit, it will be interesting to see if both will be accommodated in the starting 11 and if so how. There is much more potential that both could play than the other 2 examples you give above due to their flexibility and I think Tonda and the club will be keen to use them both as much as possible given the outlay and that they are both quality players who can hurt the opposition.

Some matey said Swansea have put a 20 million price tag on Viptonik.

If we are serious about promotion, that's the calibre of striker we need.

It's not realistic to think we'd have Vipotnik, Larin and Mubama for one position

We aren't signing another striker mate unless archer, bbd and downs goes. We certainly won't be spending any cash like that either.

Sell those 3 and we might just about get half the Vipotnik fee so maybe...I think theres mor money than we think, its just whether its spent this season or next.
