Much prefer Larin and I don't think you'd have kept both happy if we'd signed Lankshear.

Probably wouldn't have been happy playing second fiddle to Larin.

Yep. Agree. Larin would always be first choice. Don't think Lankshear would have come here for the odd 20 minutes from the bench.

I'm sorry, but if we only bring in Abbot then Solaks comments about having the same quality of better squad this season has made him look a complete mug.

A couple of injuries to the likes or Larin/Scienza we'll be in a right mess.

Underwhelmed

Compared to where we were a year ago less a day we are in better shape. We had an unproven potentially still crocked Stewart as first choice, no Larin. Scienza was also an unknown.

We have just beaten Millwall 5-1 on Schlotterbecks & JWPs debut, without Jander or Downes for the second half.
Millwall were the class of the league on Saturday morning and fourth favourites for promotion, having been 3rd last season - hence the strongest team not to be promoted - this year's Coventry if you like.

The nature of a second year out of the prem comes with financial hurdles. That's why we were all so gutted about getting booted out of the playoffs.

We are definitely a fair bit weaker than last season.

Must admit despite a good win at the weekend my optimism levels have decreased somewhat.

I'd say it's been a brilliant window.

Who thought we'd still have Scienza, Larin, Jander, Peretz, Azaz, and added JWP....

Yeah those comments feel very much a massaging of the truth.

On X last night another Portsmyth was on there, it said that Will Ferry was going to join them but their senior players went to Mousinho and told him that if he joined they would smash him up, lol

We are probably a bit poorer as well. However, think positive - Coventry and Hull got promoted last season without the benefit of parachute payments, so a tighter budget is not necessarily cause to write off the season.

Not in a million years is he going to step in if Larin got injured.

A tall strong striker is someone that holds the ball up and allows the midfield to move up the pitch.

Mubama yesterday was nudged off the ball a couple of times and it was mentioned by the radio solent team that he needs to be stronger as he’s getting bullied.

WE WILL SIGN A TARGET STRIKER.

Pretty definitive statement. Still confident about this?

If Edozie and Archer both leave I cannot see how the club cannot bring in a striker/wide player on loan. Its all very well having a smaller squad but if Larin and Leo get injured we are up against it big time.

I'm hoping the club are keeping their cards so close to their chest that even Alfie House hasn't heard any whispers.

I think signing a kid with 13 appearances as a THB replacement is ludicrous, but at least we are well covered in that position, albeit mostly with shit.

But if Larin or Scienza get injured for any length of time, it’s season over. We are woefully short in those areas.

Considering Solak’s bullshit comments of a ‘stronger’ squad, it’s been a poor window IMO.

We've had to bring cash in - we owed £90m + on transfer fee instalments.

Most people knew and accepted that.

Anyone who thinks is that a window that involves keeping Leo and Jander, and tying down Peretz and Larin, is a poor window,  needs to give their head a wobble.

I agree, plus if you’re going to argue we’ve replaced THB with ‘a kid with 13 appearances’ then you also have to argue we’ve replaced Quarshie with a guy who has over 200 Bundesliga appearances. People cant argue it both ways just because they want to pretend we’ve had a bad window.

I don't think it was poor. I do question why we spent 9 million on Dobbin though. Personally I'd have preferred using that money to strengthen our defence and midfield. On the wings I think we look light and reliant on people not getting injured, I'm not sure if we have the variety in midfield even though I'm happy with the jwp signing and if Larin is injured I'm not sure we have anyone else.

People also need to remember that with this crap squad we now have (according to many) we beat one of the favourites 5-1 last Saturday.

Its not a poor window, getting Larin and Peretz in early was brilliant and retaining Jander and Leo is key. However, it was oversold by Solak with his comments and the bigger concern is the depth if key players get injured

I think our first 11 is excellent. I worry if we have the strength in the squad to be able to continue that success over a long and hard season. Those are two different things.

Just out of interest, where's this 90M + on transfer fee instalments come from?

Totally agree. Although I thought that we might have used the loan market a little more just to bring in a bit more cover in midfield.

Schlotterbeck is the 'THB replacement' Abbott will fill Quarshie's role.

I don't think that was the intention from the outset but given out priority choices have either turned us down or proven too expensive I don't think it's the end of the world.

I think we are certainly better than this time last year and our record from January was the best in the league.  Buying Peretz, Larin, Schlot & JWP for comparatively little was exceptional.  Also keeping Leo, Azaz & Downes was great.  The form of Larin & Azaz exceeds where they were last year with us already.  I think if we can keep key players fit we'll get promoted.

Quite, there has been more positives than negatives - Peretz was a great surprise and pick up after the play-offs saga, Larin too. JWP return a positive.

Abbott could be a good addition, just not what was expected, and Keven looks a steal. A lot of deadwood gone - Bazunu, Sugawara, BBD and Downs on loan.

Still some chunky wages there eg Ramsdale.

Jury out on Dobbin so far and didn’t seem a priority. And the squad looks very light up front now and in wide areas. Surely that’s not an unreasonable and balanced summary?

Yes but we are also owed money from player sales too. The majority of deals these days are done across the players contracts. Obviously we own transfer fees and we need to reduce costs, have a ton of debt but that isn't a 90m blackhole with no incoming transfer fees either like some people are making it out to be.

I don't understand why people have interpreted Solak saying "our goal is to have the squad as strong as last year" with a promise that that would definitely happen

I didn't really pay any attention to what he said about the squad. He probably shouldn't have said anything to be fair. He was just desperate to get the fans back onside following the shitshow last season.

It wasn't really a shortage of money that was the problem. We were prepared to spend £8m on Falchener but didn't feel it was good value to go any higher

No chance this late in the window with nobody lined up. Would be promotion suicide and the club will know that. Besides he's injured.

I’ve got on board with it - fans reviews strong at Forest although clubs can over-rate their home grown (we do it as well). Alongside Keven it could work well and he looks a decent unit which he’ll need to be.

As long as he is good enough to be above Calamity in the pecking order, low bar admittedly

Then why are people mentioning the money we owe on transfer fees? If we have money to spend then the point about us owing money isn't relevant.

I'm fairly certain that THB himself had fewer senior appearances to his name than this lad when he went to Burnley on loan and helped them win the league. I don't see it as a huge issue.

Edit: OK it seems I was wrong about that.
