sfc4prem Posted October 17 Posted October 17 Awful finish to what was a decent cross from Edozie. His shape was all wrong, suggesting he doesn’t have a striker's natural instinct. 1

BotleySaint Posted October 17 Posted October 17 He was surely not bought as an out and out striker. But given how crap Mubama has been and our failure to sign another decent striker (or, any striker) we are forced to give him a go. 1

Turkish Posted October 17 Posted October 17 He’ll come good, he’s got some quality just needs run of games. this time last year everyone was writing off Azaz 14

That isn’t the case now with Dobbin. Same can be said of Mubama

(Trying to erase the detail of the Will Still period from my memory perhaps) I remember it well because the first time I saw him live was Hull away, we were abysmal during and after the game he was getting a lot of criticism but I thought he looked a really good player, trying to make things happen but was on another wave length to the attacking players on the pitch, Downes, Frazer and Fellows I believe so didn’t buy into the criticism he was getting. 2

Lord Duckhunter Posted October 18 Posted October 18 (edited) I’m still not convinced this wasn’t linked to THB & some sort of accounting trick to tick the SCR/SSR (or whatever they’re called) rules. They sign him for X amount of millions, but don’t play him, and we get this chump for £9 million, £9 fucking million!!!! There’s a few look dodgy to me the last couple of years. Garnacho to Villa for £43 million after an obligation, yeah not linked to Rodgers and Martinez that one 🤔 Wouldnt surprise me in the least if there’s some sort of accounting wheeze being used, as his fee has defo been inflated whilst they get a player they don’t seem to want to play. He’s still pony. Edited October 18 by Lord Duckhunter 2 1

He’s still pony. That doesn’t stack up to me. This would mean we overpay for Dobbin (being kind probably paying twice his value !), then struggle to eke out anywhere near our own expectation for THB. Even by SR standards that seems fuckwittery even beyond their standards. I don’t doubt there are some accounting ruses (and Villas trading with Chelsea, and a previous deal with Everton -possibly also involving Dobbin - raise questions) but this doesn’t seem one of them. Although also wonder if part of the THB deal might have involved writing off something on Archer. Agree he’s still “pony”. Over £20m on Archer and Dobbin. Would we have been better off donating it to charity for the tax relief ? 2

Maybe Tonda not quite sure where his best position is either? Not writing him off yet, but can see why people are getting frustrated with the signing. 4

Watching those goals left me wondering how he didn't score at least one yesterday but also thinking there's a lot more to come from him. 2

Some good goals, "complimented" by some terrible music! Sure he'll come good.

So did I, but he hasn’t looked up to anything even there. You wouldn’t expect him to be at Finn’s level, he’s the best #10 in the Champ, but the drop off is enormous, which given he didn’t cost much off what Finn did just over 12 months ago.

Yeah they don’t really have the same skill sets .. to be honest I think azaz plays the best creative passes of all my years watching saints.. dobbin seems more a mobile versatile player that can cover a few positions for us .. I think I he bigger worry is tonda doesn’t seem to rate Mubama .. so yet again we seem like we have messed up the cf positions surely it wouldn’t have been our if our budget to replace Stewart with a proven championship cf 1
LiberalCommunist Posted Monday at 18:15 Posted Monday at 18:15 So disappointing thus far, but, I have more faith in Dobby than Fellows. I'm starting to think Tom doesn't want to succeed here. Can't quite believe the drop of we are witnessing from him. We may well be just the wrong club.

Do SR want to buy the type of players around and change systems as they had at PNE and WBA? If they don’t, sell them in January and bring in players who do work for the system Tonda wants to deploy. Obvious, but we know SFC/SR scouting team are not the sharpest tools in the shed.

He's definitely got something about him, but watching that, I think it quite clearly says his most dangerous position is picking up the ball on the half turn and getting relatively quick shots off from the edge of the box. He's not a loan striker, and not sure he's a wide player either. His biggest problem is Azaz, that he's one of our most important players, and he also has a ridiculous engine and rarely gets subbed. Only thing I would say is I'm not really sure he offers us any more than Archer was at the back end of last season.
Sheaf Saint Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago So is he still Pony? Or has he now shown his thoroughbred pedigree? Great game from him today, and the goal will do his confidence the world of good. Really pleased for him, because his quality has never been in question for me. Was always just a question of working out how to set up to get the best out of him. Go on lad. 7
AlexLaw76 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago He was great today. It helps that we tried not to use him as a target man and changed it up. his movement is good and he drops off the defender really well 5

Dobbin adds the pace, movement and silky skills we've needed. Tonda needs to find room for him when Larin returns 1

Credit to Tonda for setting us up to play around his style. 2
Lighthouse Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago He’s never been a bad player, despite some of the hyperbole and drama after the Bolton game. The issue was always whether he fitted into the way we play and we can get the most out of him. There are alternatives to playing with a big target man and I think today has proven that. If we can win theoretically the toughest fixture of the year without Larin, then we can win other games too. 1
