Wrexham vs Saints - Saturday 3pm

Time to sort the away form out. Same as last season please when the gulf in class showed.

5 of our 7 games so far have been against teams currently sitting in the top half. From a cursory check we’ve had the hardest start out of any of our main competitors i.e. West Ham, Boro, Wolves etc. Yet without the points deduction we’d be sitting second. It all bodes well. Now need a win on the road.

You'd expect them to have a reaction after the West Ham drubbing. And our away form is meh.

We should have too much for them. Having said that, we should've had too much for Lincoln so let's see what happens.

Hopefully the recent home wins against the top form teams will give us the confidence to perform on the road. We’ve looked really timid away, just need to go up there and look to out score them rather than trying to sit in. Our wingers should have some joy in behind their wing backs

Hopefully Downes is fit for next Saturday. Midfield looks a little light now if he and Jander are both out.

However the way the front three are clicking, hopefully it'll be too much for Wrexham.

I do think Wrexham will go ultra defensive due to the hammering they took at West Ham.

How many spare players for each area is it sensible for a Championship side to stockpile?

We also have Akachukwu and Azaz who could do a job potentially.

2 per position. I had forgotten about Akachukwu. 

CM was strong for Saints last season.

I can see why Fellows plays in this team now.

When we beat the press he often cuts inside and takes out a couple of players which creates space for others.

Matsuki to start and Fellows on around the 60th minute mark.

Just want us to start well. We've been really vulnerable first 20 minutes in most games. Start with confidence, get an early goal and hopefully build from that for a change.

Matsuki went into central midfield for some of the 2nd half vs Bristol City when Scienza went off. Including the time he scored the goal to make it 3-1. Ward-Prowse was playing wide left for a portion of the second half.

Would surprise me if Downes' injury is significant enough to rule him out of this match. Didn't Tonda say in his post-match interview yesterday that Downes picked up a knock in the first minute, yet went on to play the whole first half, and was only then withdrawn as a precaution? If it was a significant injury, then he wouldn't have played the rest of the half, surely...?

I always fear Keiffer Moore , sort of player we struggle against. 

Had an absolutely brilliant trip to Wrexham last year, fingers crossed same again

His starting position was on the wing. If he drifted in to score a goal then great.

I’m not sure the Wrexham faithful will want to see their home team withdraw into itself and play defensively - think they’ll be baying for blood if that happens…they’ve got an entitled view that comes with the Hollywood money mindset. There will be plenty of route one footie though, but I’m certain our primary CB pairing of Wood and Schlotterbeck will cope reasonably well. As usual I dare say I’ll be fretting over the wank defending of Manning, who will inevitably allow long balls to bounce before attempting a clearance and also allow his oppo winger to cross balls into the box, thus playing into the hands of Wrexham.

If Tonda gets it right… 1-3 Saints.

As mentioned last year, those of you staying overnight, stay in Chester. Train takes 15 mins into Wxm general which is right by their ground. Chester is a great place, Wxm isn't. You'll be well met (enemy of my enemy is my friend) by everyone.

I'd certainly recommend a Chester weekender, I've done it for North West games, great if it ties in with the races which you can even watch from the higher roadside!

I don’t think they ever really recovered from that 5-1, they were shell shocked. They were just bad the next game against Birmingham but Birmingham weren’t as clinical as Saints. 
 

That 6-0 could finish them off.

Away performances have not been up to scratch. I think we are showing teams more respect than we need to which is resulting in the clear disparity performance wise between home and away games. Let's just go out and outscore the opposition with no fear starting this weekend at Wrexham.  We're too good for most sides in the Championship and need to play with far more swagger and belief away from St Marys.

The owners coming out earlier in the year and saying they couldn't see a situation in which they sack Parkinson was ridiculous. That says to me that they were so arrogantly complacent that they assumed they would just keep progressing upwards with no steps back, and certainly no chance of getting relegated.

3 specific scenarios so far away from home which we didn't cope with.  First day of the season we seemed to be rusty and didn't get into our stride.  Birmingham are a tough team to beat at St Andrews so a draw there will be a decent result for just about anyone in the league.  Lincoln still have their momentum from last season and their physical game will be a match for many at home in the early part of the season.

I think Wrexham away will be a truer test of our away ability than any of the previous three and their recent thrashing combined with our win there last season should work in our favour.

Birmingham was a decent result. Watford and Lincoln should have been 6 points but we got our tactics totally wrong.

They’ve just been hammered, the manager’s under a bit of pressure and now he’s got to play the team who ripped him to shreds last season.

He can’t risk another tonking so no way will he want to give us any room to play.

Can see them parking the bus for this one and it being a case of whether we can break them down. 

Still think we’ll have too much for them. Ugly 2-1 win.

They can't afford to park the bus against us, our attack would easily break down a Wrexham side set up like that, and over 90mins it would be even more depressing for them.

Phil Parkinson is, I suspect, aware of this and will instead play to their strengths and pack the midfield when out of possession and aim to disrupt our game there. With direct quick balls Moore when they get the it.

It won't be pretty. But I can't see Wrexham sitting back and inviting us on at the Racecourse.

No, they switched positions not as part of a short spell of play. But as a tactical switch. Matsuki was central and Ward-Prowse went wide left when Scienza came off.
