Pompey Takeover Saga

That's the one who was later exposed as pretending to own the club, then he pretended to pay the players as they pretended to compete fairly in the FA Cup.

Maybe they’ll have a fake supporter with a stunning CV of fandom and that he wouldn’t be seen except by his family.

On a lighter note - the ice cream seller just got banged up for five years for stealing money from his wife and using it to buy pompey. :o

He was one of the more pleasant crooks they welcomed, he didn't maim any kids and he didn't kill anyone - bad fashion is not a crime.

Virgil van Dijk grins in the face of fans’ fury on happy return to Southampton.

For someone who was supposed to be the pantomime villain and walking into a hostile atmosphere Virgil van Dijk spent an awful lot of time smiling. The boos were loud and the language colourful on occasions yet Van Dijk could hardly have looked more comfortable as he strolled his way through his first return to Southampton since an acrimonious transfer that was far more problematic than anything he came up against on the pitch here.

A fifth appearance for Liverpool in all competitions delivered a first clean sheet and a near faultless performance from the world’s most expensive defender, who was a model of composure throughout and never remotely affected by the abuse that rained down from the stands. If anything, Van Dijk played as if he was rather enjoying the stick, so much so that he could be seen laughing at the first sound of the boos that greeted his every touch.

They really are the gift that keeps on giving.

Just as we think our plight is bad, up they come with something like this which shows what a pony, sleazy club they are.

They'll always be better than us....

More trophies yes, but better dodgy owners, more administrations, more points deducted, more tax avoided from HMRC... we just can't do collapses like they do.

the BBC do a slightly better job of covering the story: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43055733

i must admit at being confused about who's who in the numerous ne'er do wells that have been associated with Pompey

Wasn't this the guy who Piers Morgan told Pompey fans was the 'Real Deal'? Honest he is Guv!!

Meanwhile, talking about Honest Guv's, is the Portsmouth News still running the campaign to get Henry Redknapp a Knighthood, as demanded by the majority of its readers???

You nutjobs still don't get it! :x

How many times do I have to explain??

There was no criminality, there was no welcoming of criminals with open arms, there was no ignoring quite clearly that people were using money from organised crime to generate football results!

And there was certainly no use of arms dealing money or cash stolen from Lithuanian pensioners or charities, and no one was shot in revenge attacks by rival gangs.

So let it go!

pompey only ran into trouble ten minutes after the final whistle of the 2008 cup final, because the world markets struggled - not because they were illegally-owned and running a madly unsustainable wagebill and transfer policy to launder money.

Thankfully they then recovered from the stockmarket crash and a little bout of insolvent trading, just in time for the cup game at St Marys, when luckily for them, they were running legally again, as supported by the false accounts presented to the High Court.

Sadly on the triumphant trip home along the M27 there was an issue with the taxman wanting some money or something, he was waiting at Segensworth - and it all went a little bit wrong again because of the FA not selecting them better directors and owners, which is unfair as the FA's main job isn't running the game, it's trying to spot when clubs dress up criminals as saviours and try to pull a fast one - or four.

And they certainly didn't continue to overspend after the first administration - nor did they try to wriggle out of all debt by agreeing a CVA but with no intention of paying it.

So this thread is ridiculous, clearly based on jealousy.

Little-minded people are still trying to make a link between the cup win and the accompanying debt and theft that made it possible - that's crazy!

The club can walk away from the debt and the criminality but retain the history from the same era - that's only fair!

And to support this I'm going to make up some figures, add in some appalling spelling, stick in an apostrophe for no reason and circulate some vulgar-hued mad graphic on Facebook for simpletons to Like - that'll show you green-eyed idiots!

:x

I wonder how that forensic examination of the accounts of the previous football club that played at Fratton Park is coming along? You know, the one where the appointed forensic accountants were on track for reporting back on a couple of years ago...

I'd forgotten about that. I haven't heard anything further, so must assume that the forensic examination is still ongoing. At the rates that those people charge, their fees must now be larger than the GDP of most third World countries.

Is that likely to tip them into yet another administration? ;)

Haven't seen/heard nothing since this Sky Sports article from 2015:

Portsmouth creditors facing wait for cash

By Bryan Swanson, Chief News Reporter

Last Updated: 31/03/15 2:15pm

Portsmouth creditors may have to wait until 2017 to discover if they will receive any further money, seven years after the club first entered administration.

Portsmouth became the first Premier League club to be put into administration, with initial debts of nearly £120 million, in February 2010.

A year later, Portsmouth City Football Club Ltd was wound up and placed into compulsory liquidation at the High Court as the company exited its administration.

Baker Tilly, an independent firm of chartered accountants and business advisers, has been investigating the liquidated company for four years, and revealed they may require two more years to establish whether creditors will receive any further funds.

"Work to realise assets for the benefit of creditors is ongoing but our best estimate is that the matter is not likely to be concluded for the next 1-2 years." said Baker Tilly, in a statement to Sky Sports News HQ.

In February 2012, Championship Portsmouth entered administration for the second time in three seasons, and were relegated to League One three months later, before further relegation at the end of the following season.

Portsmouth are in 14th place in League Two.

The club, now trading under Portsmouth Community Football Club, announced on Monday that it had an operating profit of £118,000 in its first full year of trading.

Accounts for the year ending June 2014 showed a turnover of £6.6 million, with gate receipts of £3.4 million.

The club say there was an overall loss of £171,000 for the year, after including net interest charges of loans taken out to purchase the club in April 2013.

Baker Tilly's ongoing investigation is unrelated to the current company and fan-ownership of the club.

"As liquidators, we have a duty to ascertain any misconduct carried out by those in control of the company which has caused loss or prejudice to the general body of creditors." said Geoff Carton-Kelly, formerly joint-liquidator, in February 2011.

"In some cases, if appropriate, the liquidator may be able to bring legal proceedings against third parties as well as directors or shadow directors for either wrongful trading or fraudulent trading, misfeasance or breach of duty with a view to recovering funds for creditors. In addition, the liquidators have powers to reverse certain historical transactions for the benefit of creditors too."

Baker Tilly rebranded to RSM UK in October 2015. Might be time to drop them a tweet to see how they're getting on....? https://twitter.com/RSMUK

Not that it'll have any impact on the current football club based at Fratton Park, given its a completely different entity to the one Baker Tilly were/are investigating.... ;)

I think we lost all rights to bleat on about fit and proper persons when we allowed a court confessed briber to take ownership of our club......

It just shows how little influence football fans have over ownership and how completely useless the FPP test is.

Money talks, it always has and it always will. Even if you have to snaffle £5m from your wife....

Come on, we've all done it.......maybe just on a smaller scale....
